1)cuil

[caption id="attachment_125" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="cuil"][/caption]

2)yahoo ! search

[caption id="attachment_126" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="yahoo!"][/caption]

3) Live

Live :

[caption id="attachment_127" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Live"][/caption]

4)AOL

[caption id="attachment_128" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="AOL"][/caption]

5)Google

6)parseek

Today in the market, Tuesday May 20, 2008: Stocks fell as crude oil prices continued to climb. There were concerns that the higher energy prices were slamming the US consumer. The S&P & Nasdaq were both down about 1%.

RSI’s Themes: The ETF/CEF picks for today are T-bonds and the Japanese Yen trust. Interesting picks. Only three stock picks with one new one which is an energy trust paying a huge yield. Worth a look.

ETF/CEF Low Volatility:

IEF - 7-10 Year Treasury Bond Fund (Leh) iShares

SHY - 1-3 Year Treasury Bond Fund (Leh) iShares

ETF/CEF Medium Volatility:

FXY - CurrencyShares Japanese Yen Trust

Stock Picks New to RSI:

TEL Offshore Trust owns interest in the TEL Offshore Trust Partnership (Partnership). The Partnership owns a royalty interest in oil and gas properties located offshore Louisiana. TEL Offshore Trust was founded in 1983 and is based in Austin, Texas. It currently pays a yield of 12.80%.

Catch a Falling Knife:

none

The Way Ahead Portfolio was up 0.68% today despite a down market. It is now ahead 4.01% since its inception on October 1st of last year. Four of its ten holdings have gains of over 20% and all holdings have positive gains. Yes, many of the original positions were stopped out for 8% plus losses, but the portfolio has flourished in this recent rally.

Today in the market, Friday May 16, 2008: After spending all day in the red, the stock market pulled up to end almost unchanged. The S&P was slightly up and the Nasdaq was slightly down. Thus the market ended a pretty good week mixed as it continues to move steadily up and off the bottom. Crude oil prices continue to worry the market.

RSI’s Themes: RSI picked many gold oriented ETF/CEF and stocks. In addition there are several steel companies in the mix too. And RSI still likes energy stocks too. RSI still is not showing any "Catching a Falling Knife" candidates. Does this mean that the bear is gone?

RSI’s Themes: From the ETF world, RSI continues to pick energy, materials and Latin America. Its stock picks also favor materials, mining and energy. Pretty good agreement. No falling knife candidates for today.

ETF/CEF Medium Volatility:

Today in the market, Thursday May 8, 2008: Stocks were up modestly, like 0.5%, reflecting good retail news and worries of higher crude oil prices. Remember the saying about climbing a "wall of worry"? This may be all part of the process of moving higher.

RSI’s Themes: As this market warms up there are more ETF/CEF picks from RSI. The central theme is energy and materials. Not surprising considering the current economic environment. And RSI's stock picks appear to agree with that assessment and add two steel stocks to the mix.

Out of all these stock picks, RSI has a new stock to its quiver:

Valence Technology, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, engages in the commercialization of phosphate-based lithium-ion rechargeable battery technology, known as Saphion.

Can you believe Mechel Steel? Up 350% for the past 52 weeks. And Valence Tech isn't chopped liver either. What RSI is telling us is that there are more gains in the future.

* Special note on this pick - This fund has a great chart and I believe it could be going higher. On the other hand it has a 3.35% expense ratio, too rich for my blood. I'm conflicted on this one.

** Special note on this pick - Sometimes I have to manually judge if the RSI results conform with all the facets of the methodology. This one failed to convince me that it met the Hurst Channel criteria, but I found it to be interesting. But I couldn't keep this one to myself. I don't know if it has merit, or if it is an anomaly. Ultra short the financials is so counterintuitive, I had to share this one with my loyal followers. But don't buy it on this basis....unless you like to speculate.

*** Special note on this pick - This stock was up huge today, don't chase it.

Today in the market, Friday April 25, 2008: The market spent most of the day down, but bargain hunters came in and drove it up to close mixed. The S&P was up an the Nasdaq was down. An okay ending to a roller coaster week. Inflation concerns are playing on the market as consumers are squeezed. Consumer sentiment is at a 27 year low, but company earnings announcements have been quite robust. The Yin and Yang pulling the market in opposite directions.

RSI’s Themes: Finally RSI (alive and well, thank you) has some ETF/CEF picks and they point decidedly in the materials sector. The stock picks are more in the energy sector and also the agricultural minerals sector, i.e. fertilizers. Food is becoming an important speculation commodity and there is news about food riots, rationing and hoarding. Steels are also a RSI choice. No CFK picks today.

A word of caution on many of the selected stocks. Several are quite over extended and may be moving down. Please use care and of course, do your own homework on all of RSI's selections. Remember RSI is a mechanical methodology and it is not a substitute for human judgment.

Today in the market, April 1, 2008: The markets digested all the economic news and ignoring April Fools Day ended up sharply higher. All the major averages were over 3 1/2% higher. A great start to the second quarter of the year.

RSI’s Themes: The ETF/CEF picks favor materials, energy, real assets and foreign. The stock picks include many foreign (especially China), healthcare, energy and industrials. I get a strong sense that not only have we put in the bottom, but RSI is showing us the path to future prosperous investments.

Many new names on these two lists:

Alberto-Culver Company engages in the development, manufacture, distribution, and marketing of beauty care, house hold, health care, and hair care products in the United States and internationally.

Covanta Holding Corporation, through its subsidiaries, provides waste and energy services in the United States, Europe, and Asia. It develops, owns, and operates infrastructure for the conversion of energy-from-waste, waste disposal, and renewable energy production.

SPX Corporation provides flow technology products, test and measurement products, thermal equipment and services, and industrial products and services in the United States and internationally.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Limited develops, manufactures, and markets generic and human pharmaceuticals, as well as active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Israel.

Votorantim Celulose e Papel S.A. and its subsidiaries manufacture and market pulp and paper products in North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia/the Middle East/Oceania/Africa.

Stone Energy Corporation engages in the acquisition, exploration, development, operation, and production of oil and gas properties located in the Gulf of Mexico, the Rocky Mountain Basins, and the Williston Basin in the United States.

With this renewed enthusiasm in the equities, I will be studying RSI's recommended ETF/CEF picks and will be placing some orders for the hypothetical "Way Ahead" portfolio. I'll add them to this blog prior to tomorrow's market opening.

Today in the market, Monday March 31, 2008: The end of the month and end of the quarter saw a sees

Today in the market, Monday March 31, 2008: The end of the month and end of the quarter saw a seesaw market that closed nicely higher. Market action was probably exacerbated by institutional portfolio window dressing, but we will take the gain.

RSI’s Themes: RSI still likes materials, energy and foreign based businesses. A similar refrain to what RSI has been whispering over the past few weeks. Is this the market posture for the future?

ETF/CEF Medium Volatility:

IEO - iShares Dow Jones U.S. Oil & Gas Exploration & Production

ILF - Latin America 40 Index iShares

RSI has picked these two recently and here you have them again. The chart shows they have done well and RSI expects continued good performance.

Stocks Medium Volatility:

AKS - AKSteel Holding Corp.

BNT - Bentley Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

BTI - British American Tobacco Industries, p.l.c.

CEDC - Central European Distribution Corp.

ELN - Elan Corp. PLC

FDP - Fresh Del Monte Produce

GEF - Greif Bros. Corp.

HLF - Herbalife Ltd.

NVO - Novo Nordisk A S

STR - Questar Corp.

TECH - Techne Corp.

WW - Watson Wyatt & Co.

XTO - XTO Energy Inc.

Of these thirteen, only one of these is newly picked by RSI:

British American Tobacco p.l.c., through its subsidiaries, engages in the manufacture, distribution, and sale of cigarettes and tobacco products. BTI is London based and yields 5.10%, not too shabby.

I have to look into my volatility algorithm, it looks like the volatility disparity in the upper stock chart is more than I expect. I might change my criteria. Anyway, I have a feeling that we are successfully establishing a base and the bottom may be behind us. We shall see...

Today in the market, Tuesday March 18, 2008: It was a blowout today as all the indices had gains of

Today in the market, Tuesday March 18, 2008: It was a blowout today as all the indices had gains of 3 1/2 to almost 4%! This is really big. There was positive earnings news from the financial sector that generated enthusiasm and a FED rate cut of 3/4% added to the excitement. Let's see if this pulls the market out of the doldrums.

RSI’s Themes: A couple of themes stand out...Steel, Energy & Foreign. Interesting of all the stocks don't include the stars of today's blowout...the financials. Credicorp Ltd. is a Peru based financial services company and really not involved

ETF/CEF Medium Volatility:

ILF - Latin America 40 Index iShares

IYM - Basic Matls iShares

SLX - Market Vectors Steel

ILF is a new addition and points to a foreign sector. The others are in the materials sector. Interesting choices.

Stocks Medium Volatility:

ABV - Companhia de Bebidas das Americas

AKS -AKSteel Holding Corp.

BAP -Credicorp Ltd.

BTM - Brasil Telecom SA

CPL - CPFL Energia SA

GEF - Greif Bros. Corp.

KO - Coca Cola Co.

RBA - Ritchie Bros Auctioneers

ROS - Rostelecom

SSL - Sasol Ltd.

STR - Questar Corp.

WFT - Weatherford Intl

WW - Watson Wyatt & Co.

Stocks High Volatility:

PCLN - priceline.com Inc.
