Oggi è una data importante, e non solo perchè è il compleanno di P3go83. Oggi è un anno che ho acquistato il mio attuale telefono HTC TyTn. Era da molto tempo che non usavo lo stesso cellulare così a lungo, l'ultima volta è stata con lo sharp GX30. Dopo di quello ho cambiato molti telefoni, tutti tenuti pochi mesi e poi rivenduti per comprare il modello successivo, quello con qualcosa in più e che ovviamente costava di più. Fino ad arrivare ai 650 € del TyTn. Devo ammettere che questo telefono m'ha soddisfatto, non è certamente "ultra multimediale" come i precedenti che ho avuto ma è stato un buon compagno di viaggio. La comodità della tastiera qwerty è ineguagliabile da qualsiasi T9. Il touchscreen, la possibilità di usarlo come navigatore e la durata della batteria discreta completano l'opera. Allo stato attuale ho un pensiero un pò diverso sui cellulari. Certo m'affascinano ancora ma non ne sento la necessità. Stò pensando - e per ora resta un pensiero - di abbandonare l'uso di codesto dispositivo tecnoligico che ci rende sempre rintracciabili, ed eguagliando il tempo in cui ho tenuto il TyTn fare un anno senza cellulare. Alla fine dell'anno deciderò cosa fare, se comprarne uno nuovo o meno. L'importante è cambiare la scheda telefonica. Ormai attiva da anni ed anni ed anni ha visto passare centinaia di numeri telefonici che ad oggi sono inutili. La cambierò e terrò quei 4, forse 5, numeri che uso.

Diamonds are measured in Carat Weight. One carat weighs 200 milligrams. If a diamond is referred to as four grains, this also means that it is a one carat diamond. The word Carat comes from the word carob. A carob is a bean that grows on a tree in the Mediterranean. In times past, if a diamond weighed the same as a carob bean, it was one carob, or one carat.
However, in the far east, where Carob trees do not grow, rice was used to measure the weight of a diamond. If a diamond weighed as much as four grains of rice, it was four grains – or one carat as we know it to be now. The majority of diamond purchases are for diamonds that are 1/3 of a carat.

Beware when shopping for diamonds that are already set or mounted. If more than one diamond is used in the piece, the tag on the jewelry will give the CTW or Carat Total Weight – it does not tell you the carat weight of each stone in the piece. You need to ask the jeweler for the total carat weight of the largest diamond in the piece to truly understand what you are buying.

Recently, I ordered the bike of my dreams as a birthday present to myself.

When I returned to cycling after a 30 year break, I purchased a good bike (Trek 1500), just a step or three above entry level, and one that would take me towards my goals. My previous bike had been my brother's Peugot which was about 40 years old by now.

I don't want to imply that the Trek 1500 is no longer of use. That could not be farther than the truth! While its still my baby (something only a bike geek could understand), I have bike envy. I also told myself that if I stuck with this for two years then I would buy a "forever bike", one that would be around another 40 years.

Week after week, I continued to climb the stairs at Helen's Cycles (where they keep the special bikes) and eye them like a hungry orphan watching the fat cats dine on meals just out of reach. Each time, I would tell myself that these are for the real cyclists and return to the bikes downstairs, the ones for the rest of us.

Then came my birthday, it was time. In the last two years I've cycled more miles than I ever thought any human could, least of all this human. I've signed on for more events and have organized a team. I very rarely drive any more, if at all. It was most definitely time for that forever bike.

Back to Helen's I went. Right up to Tony, the Manager and announced which one I wanted. I was committed now! As we were doing the paperwork, I quietly joked/asked if this was too much bike for me. He replied "probably, but not by next year." There it was, confirmation that by the time I was done paying it off, it would be the right thing to do.

A day later it hit me... I told my husband that I realized the bike was more cash than the very nice engagement ring I was wearing. He nodded, told me that he was well aware of it and that the ring had better be viewed as the "forever rock". No worries, sweetie - I'm here for the long haul. But the diamond ...

Native Indian Jewelry Making - Navajo Silver Jewelry

Native Indian jewelry, especially of the Navajo and Zuni variety,is generating increasing interest for its beautiful and stunning design and workmanship. It is based on a tradition that is not that long, going back to about the middle of the 19th century. The emphasis here is on the silverwork that is employed in the making of the jewelry. There is a fascinating history which is worth looking into. It is an American legacy of the native Indians, from the time of the Spanish Conquest. So in that sense it is a tradition that goes back to the founding times of America.

Native American Indian jewelry was, and is, generally classified into two main types - beadwork and metalwork. Beadwork has a longer history stretching back to pre-Colombian times. It concentrated on the use of natural materials, and semi-precious gemstones, such as shells and turquoise, animal bones and ivory.

In this article, I am concentrating on metalwork jewelry making. Because the skills and techniques of fashioning metal were not advanced until after the arrival of the Europeans on the American continent, the metalwork jewelry was, prior to that period, of relatively simple order. Iron and copper were used, so was brass and later silver. The technique was by manual hammering and etching. The fashioning of silver by silversmiths came after silversmithing was introduced by the Spaniards.

The influence was on the south-west of the American continent. In fact, it was the Mexicans first who learned the skill of silversmithing from the Spanish invaders. After the native Indians learned it from the Mexicans, their skill gradually grew and has developed into the intricate use of silver with gemstones like turquoise, with distinctive designs that are stunningly eye-catching.

The Navajo are credited with being the tribe that helped spread the craft of silversmithing. Being of a nomadic nature, the Navajo came frequently into contact with the Spanish in the south-west from about the late 16th century. There were clashes and sometimes friendly association. The Spanish personal ornaments and adornments fascinated the Indians. And they began to copy or assimilate the Spanish style and began to wear ornaments made from so-called German silver. But silversmithing, using real silver, was not yet within their grasp.

Though the history is not completely certain, it is generally thought that the first Navajo silversmith was Atsidi Sani (also known as "Old Smith"), and the making of silver jewelry started in th 1860s. Atsidi Sani was among some 8000 of the Navajo tribe who were captured and imprisoned at Fort Sumner in New Mexico in 1864 to 1868. It seems that by the end of the captivity, Atsidi Sani learned the art of silversmithing. The art was transmitted to his sons, and spread to the Zuni in around 1872. Atsidi Chon (known also, perhaps descriptively, as "Ugly Smith") taught his Zuni friend Lanyade the skill of making silver. The Navajo style was passed on to the Hopi, when they in turn learned making silver jewelry from the Zuni.

In the early days, the source of silver was Mexican and U.S. coins. The U.S. coins, being readily available and of good quality, were often used. In 1890 a law was passed prohibiting the melting of U.S. coins, but that was more often honored in the breach than observance.

The emblematic piece of Navajo or Navajo-style jewelry is the squash blossom necklace. This was actually adopting the Spanish crescent-shaped "naja" as the centerpiece of the necklace. Since its release in June, the ~flirt~ Tiffany Ring has been one of the signature items of jeweller Skinkie Winkler, praised in many reviews and worn by well known fashion icons. An exclusive Pink Diamond version got auctioned for Relay for Life in July. Today, we officially release the complete range of Tiffany items, consisting of bracelet, 3 necklaces (regular, pendant and double strand), stud and drop earrings and the ring, available in amethyst, diamond, emerald, ruby and sapphire.

The Tiffany jewellery range was inspired, unsurprisingly, by the designs of the jewellers Tiffany & Co. of London. As with every design, the finished product is rarely identical to the inspiration, the process of building, the qualities of the prims and the limitations/lack of limits of Second Life each adding to it's
uniqueness.

The Tiffany Drop Earrings consist of glittering diamonds set in the finest platinum and fall in two strings from a large, rare gem encircled by precision placed micro-prim diamonds to form an earring that few will surpass. “Luxury, elegance, and decadent sexuality in equal measure.”

The three Tiffany necklaces are hand built and djusted to perfection. The Tiffany Pendant uses two attachment points (chest & spine) and boasts a combined weight of 346 prims, an ARC of only 40 and two pendant types, to suit shapes of all proportions. Finally the Tiffany Double Strand Necklace - the necklace of every woman’s dreams - showcases 417 tiny twisted and hand placed prim jewels and should be worn with pride to be seen in.

Weighing in at a mere 126 prims each, the subtle design of the Tiffany Studs add class to any outfit. In spite of the number of prims, careful design and build technique has ensured that these gems won’t lag you down, their Avatar Rendering Cost being only 35.

Comprising a single flawless 7.15 carat Linden precious gemstone surronded by double row of 75 melee diamonds set in platinum on a band shouldered by a further double row of diamonds, the ring is available with five central gemstones - Diamond, Ruby, Amethyst, Sapphire and Emerald. With an Avatar Rendering Cost of only 20-25 (minumum possible being 10, suggested avatar total being 500-1000) this ring is the perfect way to show a loved one just how much you care. Two rings are included in the box, fitted to the left and right hand respectively, and whilst sized for the average female hand size (20), it is fitted with a resize script to ensure the perfect fit for every shape.

~flirt~ jewellery and Avatar Rendering Cost
Each piece of ~flirt~ jewellery is hand built and 100% prim-based. Care has been taken to assure the lowest possible Avatar Rendering Cost (contribution to sim lag) possible whilst 7 below 100 in whichever combination you choose.

Where required, your jewellery is fitted with a resize script. Simply click on the root prim, usually the largest central gem, to open a dialogue box and follow the instructions. A full instructions notecard is included should you need it. You are strongly advised to use a pose stand when repositioning your
jewellery, one is provided. Should you run into difficulty, and if your shape is transferable, I will be more than happy to fit your jewellery for you. This service is only available for transferable items.

Customisations

We offer customisation services for all items. This can be changes to metals and stones and - where applicable - engravings. An additional cost of 500 L$ per customisation applies.

Movie Review: Blood Diamond

Once, I didn’t remember there was a movie title Blood Diamond. I just figured this movie was an unknown movie, with no star on it. And, the story will be such a simple story, which tells us about a diamond. But then, I was proven wrong.

Leonardo DiCaprio (played as Danny Archer) and Jennifer Connely (played as Maddy Bowen) was playing in this movie. And of course, their act is more perfect with the support of Djimon Hounsou (played as Solomon Vandy). I said it’s perfect, because the story of this movie reflected by their character.

Started in some village of native people in Africa, Solomon tried to educate his child to become someone useful and well-educated. Even though his country was in war – Sierra Leone, because of a civil war, but he didn’t despair enough about his dreams. But then, his village was attacked by the R.U.F – the rebellion army which was so cruel and inhuman. They just kill and kill many people. But luckily, Solomon’s family managed to escaped, while him-self captured.

He was worked as a labor on a diamond mine. The R.U.F owned the mine. So, every diamond found on the mine, will be used for funding the civil war. Then, Solomon found one. The big one. He was managed to bury and hide it, just before the R.U.F commander found him and threaten him. Before he was killed by the commander, the government armies found them and arrest all of the men.

Meanwhile, Danny – some mercenary, are also arrested because diamond smuggling. Then, he heard about the big diamond on the prison. So, he tried to find out more with bailed out Solomon after he bailed out himself. From then, Danny and Solomon are involved in so many actions. So many gunshot. So many bloods. So many survival act. Because Danny needed the diamond, and Solomon needed his family – which Danny promised will be saved. And, while they’re on journey, they met (again for Danny) with Maddy. Some war journalist from the States, which covers stories about Blood Diamond – some idiom for the diamond which was mined and used by the civil war.

This movie delivers the moral clearly. How a war could damage many things. People died, and materials are broken. There’s no fortune from a war. All party on the war are loss. Even though some said, they won the war, but actually they lost many things. Even less, the lost one are lost the most. And also, the moral from this movie is, nothing is impossible. Some things are possible if treated well – like Solomon which brought out to London, with his family, and get well-financed.

One word for Blood Diamond: GREAT!
