.. . and to pass the time, we  did an old street light. as life tends to go around here, we were setting up to shoot the factory, and  i started wondering why no one in sl did one of those war of the worlds kinda streetlights. well i think war of the worlds like that george pal version where the martians died cuz they went to church instead of actually doing something constructive.  uh, gene barry went to church, not the martians. anyway, after i saw that movie as a kid, i always thought these lights looked like the martian death ray thingers, which made them a lot cooler, and  a rich internal dialog always made getting dragged off to the kmart by my mom, so much more bearable.

soooooo, the shoot takes way too long cuz we have to make a light, the we have to script it, then well, that cold be a product, then... blah, and blah, ad infinitum. its got a script that makes the lights go on and off with the time of day.  cuz this is america and if your light just sits there, the terrorists win.

we were beating our heads against the wall till i was at Mystical Cookies show and tell sunday, and one of her friends jorgen did a show and tell of his youtube controller. Just what we needed, so jorgen redid our script, and did a lovely job i may say, and now we have tv.

abbey did a couple custom animations for the game console. shes like that. we added 9 games from the original 2600. god these old games are so lame. i mean. its a long journey from super break out to portal.  we included... battle zone, super breakout, galaxian, ice hockey, pacman, asteroids, superman, berzerk, and zaxxon.

it comes with a atari 2600 console, an 80's tv, a bunch of 80's rec room paraphernalia, and all the retro coolness you could ever want.

For my forty-second birthday, my family--well, my wife, chiefly--bought me a bike. The last bike I had owned--a Puch racer--had previously borne the Pratley frame when it was a svelt 11-stone, sometime before Mrs Thatcher moved her knick-knacks into No. 10. In those days, the bike to be seen on had drop-handlebars, ten gears (twelve at a push), centre-pull brakes and no suspension. By the time my current bike arrived, the range of options was bewildering, from the standard racer of my yoof to all-terrain bikes with tyres that wouldn't look out of place on a Massey Furguson, and a spectrum of hybrids between. My 21st Century bike had straight handlebars with grab bars, twenty-one, count them, 21 gears, and half a suspension system. The wrong half, it turns out. It is positioned, quite uselessly it seems to me, directly above the front wheel. As we'll see in a moment, I and intimate portions of my anatomy have rather strong views that it should be about 2 feet further back...

About four years ago, my father bought a bike for himself, and we enjoyed several rides together along the Taff Trail. However, his advancing years have reduced his confidence on the road, and he bequeathed his bike to me. So, I now keep one bike at work, and one at home. As a shift worker, there are plenty of opportunities to ride on reasonably empty roads when working nights, and an electric shower at work means I can return to my desk as fragrant as ever.

After the initial resolve to make use of the bike at work on a regular basis, inertia set in. The slow puncture in the rear tyre was strongly symbolic of my attitude, and the bike remained unused for several months. Perhaps it was the arrival of my 50th birthday last week that preciptated a change of mood, or maybe it was the sudden arrival of summer; whatever it was, I resolved to re-acquaint myself with the joys of cycling. So it was that I arrived at work for the last of an extended run of night shifts armed with pump, towel, deoderant, a change of clothes, and a determination to put the rubber to the road.

The heavy showers throughout the evening did nothing to dampen my enthusiasm, and shortly after 1:00, a tubby, balding character emerged from the Science Park at Bridgend astride a 21-speed Apollo Firenza. I headed for Ewenny, then through Corntown, and on to join the A48 at the Golden Well. It was at this point that the muted complaints from the Pratley Posterior began to make themselved heard above the endorphines. The clear suggestion was that this had been a Bad Idea. In spite of its ample padding, my butt painfully indicated that it had been dealt a surfeit of contact with the narrow ridge of pre-Cambrian geology purporting to be a bicycle seat. At some stage over the last twenty-five years, the several layers of leathery hide that marked the interface between gluteus maximus and saddle have dissolved into raw nerve endings.

The showers of the previous hours had receded, but there was enough aitch-two-oh on the roads to mark a liberal stripe up my back. What genius marketeer decided that bikes no longer need mudguards? Is it a response to the warming of the planet?

Some 35 minutes after starting the ride, it was all over--a swift review of the route on Google Earth indicates that I had covered 5.78 miles, with which I pronounce myself well pleased. And well sore. Here's to next time...

i wake up early so that i can get to work...get to the AC. it's sad when i wake up early and the trains have allied with the heat to destroy me.

i also left work at 9:30 PM today and i can't say it was totally because i'm swamped in work.

Sculpties dammit.

A new study by the sport medicine center of Podunk university says that sculpties are over all better for ass cushioning than lame old normal prims. and i worry about your ass. so i made these-

And for people like me who just wanna wallow, we did a set of floor cushions. A set of 3 each with an Abbey animated pose, and a menu to pick your chioce of 8 colors, or you can buy them seperately.  Yes i said buy. I want to take your money. Maybe i didnt just make these cuz i read  study and i wanted you to have a healthy hinder. Maybe its as Marly sez and its all about me.  Well, maybe. I admit nothing.

☺ Loneliness can’t be escaped, only deferred. It must be overridden by a comfort with herself different from what shopping, pizza, snacks, and munchies bring. Living up to something bigger than herself helps. (Turn her heart over to the Lord, and loneliness will not trouble her. Avoiding calories also becomes simpler and much easier.)

☺ Her outside appearance attracts a man, her inside virtues hold him.

☺ Virtue has its own rewards. It makes tough decisions easier, and adds to her importance and self-respect.

☺ Faith in the Lord uplifts her spirit. Belief in man—Humanism—discourages it.

☺ Loneliness comes from self-centeredness. Sincere giving of herself to others drives out self-centeredness.

☺ What she thinks about, she gets. (Our subconscious takes us toward what we think about whether good or bad, desired or undesired, liked or hated, feared or coveted.)

☺ Everything for which she can be grateful adds to her happiness.

☺ Ungratefulness for her body compounds grief out of all proportion to her body’s importance in successful living.

The female nature begrudges every flaw. Her mushy thinking keeps focus on them all.

I first met Earleen when I visited The Secret Spa for a pedicure with friends. Earleen specializes in all sorts of cosmetic treatments, but I was especially interested in her take on permanent makeup. I'd heard of people having their makeup tattooed on, but it had always seemed too drastic, too odd, too potentially-disastrous-to-have-color-on-your-face-forever.

I'd also heard that "some of the minerals in tattoo ink may have magnetic properties that could potentially react with MRI technology to cause severe pain and burning sensations during an MRI procedure," and that "having tattoos, especially facial tattoos, could potentially render an MRI too painful and dangerous to be performed." Ouch! Freaky! Not for me!

But still...Earleen's makeup looked really good. So good that I would never have guessed it was a tattoo--I had visions of Ripley's "Lizard Man" (who also files his teeth down to points, which does nothing to enhance his looks, I must say) or maybe just electric-blue eyeliner permanently (and probably crookedly) affixed to eyelids. I repeat: Ouch! Freaky! Not for me!

But still...Earleen's makeup looked really good. So I asked some questions: how does it work? How does it feel? What does it cost? What are the risks? Would having an MRI really cause my face to melt and burn like the unfortunate consequences of looking into the Ark of the Covenant (a la climactic scenes from "Raiders of the Lost Ark?")?

Earleen had lots of answers: It works like the regular tattoo process, but instead of getting the ubiquitous tribal arm band or yet-another-aren't-I-special-design to peek over the back of your low-riders, these tattoos subtly enhance your face--and no one needs to know your secret unless you decide to tell them.

Sidebar: I've never been a big advocate of tattoos, especially since they went mainstream and the Constitution practically guaranteed the rights of every college freshman to get one on Spring Break. I liked 'em better when they were curiosities on the withered arms of aging veterans, like my Great Uncle Fred. He had a hula girl on his bicep, and he liked to roll up his sleeve and make her "dance" for us until Aunt Fanny yelled at him and made him quit.) 

How does it feel? Pain is a common feature of most tattoos, and is considered part of the rite of passage: if you want it, you'll be willing to endure it. But imagine that level of pain taking place on your face, for an hour or more. Earleen uses a topical numbing cream, which alleviates some of the discomfort and allows the patient to hold still while she makes tattoo magic. (Notice that I said "some" of the discomfort; we'll come to that in the next post.)

What does it cost? It varies, depending on the treatment, and this is one case where you truly get what you pay for. Earleen has years of experience, a fantastic eye for color and style, a scrupulously clean process and facility, and she loves what she does. Would you rather trust your face to Earleen...or go for a discount at a cut-rate ink shop?

What are the risks? The same as any other tattoo (done in a reputable shop), meaning very few. Can you still have an MRI without looking like you spent the night in The House of Wax? Survey says: yes you can. MRI's and tattoos can, and do, mix. Don't let your outside ink stop you from getting your insides reviewed.

After a week spent flying from Texas to Virginia to Chicago back to Texas, my verdict is official - air travel is simply wretched. Unless you have the money to decamp to first class, which I do not, it is a soul-sucking, annoying, tiring disaster.
