Compaq has a model Presario C707TU which ships with FreeDOS. Many people, like me, wish to purchase a computer without a pre-installed Windows. This help reduce cost. So far so good, but when you install a Windows XP, you need to install some drivers as well to get everything up and running. The manufacturer gives this laptop as Vista compatible system and does not guarantee proper functioning with Windows XP. But for many XP is a better choice than Vista.

If you have come to this page through search, chances are you are looking for solving the sound device driver issue. The driver that HP customer centre suggests fails to install and so does the modem. You can keep trying different audio driver to function with your system, but the maximum chances are that you wont find one. Here I would like to share my own experience how I managed to get everything running, without any extra effort.

Please follow the following procedure. If you have already installed any of these move to the next one. If skipping any step doesn't help adhere to the sequence from beginning.
1. Install Windows XP.

2. Identify your chipset (Optional. This information will help you in searching for appropiate drivers)

3. Install the video driver (Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows* XP)

4. Install the chipset driver ( INF Update Utility - Primarily for Intel® 3, 900 Series Chipsets)

Now comes the most crucial part where most people have trouble. Installing audio driver and also the modem.

9. First install Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio (Without this your audio driver won't work)

10. Install the audio driver

Conexant CX20549-12 High Definition Audio Driver

When you install the driver it will give an error message [Media device not found]. Don't get fooled by this. Now it's your turn to take control of the system.

This post has been moved to MouseBlog. I would appreciate if you could read the rest of the post there. You will get many more posts as well.

Open your "Device Manager". Look for "High Definition Audio Device". You will find a yellow mark beside it indicating that the devices is not working properly. Right click and choose to install driver. Don't let installation wizard do any thing on its own. Don't let Windows to search for drivers. Choose advanced option of insalling driver by choosing the location on your own. Then choose "Audio, Video, Games Controller" and then don't choose any driver from the list given by Windows. Click "Have disk". Now you need to look for a "swsetup" folder in your "C:" drive. This is the drive where HP drivers have been extracted automatically. Look for "sp36090" [the number of the HP driver] folder in it. If you don't find the folder in "swsetup" look for the folder in "C:" drive. You will find one ".inf" file in the folder [Don't go into the other folders within 'sp36090' folder]. This is the driver file for your audio device. Select it and proceed irrespective of any warning by Windows. You will have your correct driver installed.

11. Install the modem driver.

Conexant CX20548 Modem Driver:

Follow the same procedure as for the audio driver. Just look for "sp36089" folder this time and choose the driver ".inf" file in the folder. You will have your modem installed.

Now you can enjoy working on your laptop without having that sad look for not having your system configured properly.

Ahh the LD turtle how nostalgic.

Lets talk a little bit about storage media : optical storage. Optical media has been the very essence of us otakus of owning a piece of that favourite anime series, ve it LD, VCD, DVD etc. However, as time passes, contents matures.

We are already seeing High-Def contents in today mainstream consumer market.

A little history class then. Vhs was made main stream in 1976. In fact the 1st fansubbing began with these.

Since megnetic tapes have alot of cons, a search for a better media was initiated, thus we have optical storage.

The pros of optical storage : not prone to fungal attacks, absence of the need to rewind after watching and the tape choke nightmare.

In 1981, Laserdisc was made main stream. The revolutionary in optical storage gains in popularity. However, consumers find that LDs are bulkier than the precessor vhs.

1993, an answer to meet the needs of cunsumers was fulfilled, the Compact Disc, measuring 120mm in diameter.

Dvd was introduced in 1999, which was the successor to vcd. Video and audio quality is much more superior.

Today, contents are available in HD flavour and bluray n hd dvd are developed to contain those contents.

Conclusion

As time progresses, content matures. Thus a need for storage media to advance in order to deliver such media contents.

We consumers wants quality to cost. There is no point making a big hoohaa that 'we' are offering cheap VCDs. I dont like pointing fingers around, you should know yourselfs better. I'm sure pp have heard me ranting all the time that VCDs are obsolete in todays consumer market. Seriously,why be so frugal on getting cheapo vcd while adding a little bit more and you could get a dvd filled with goods. Look, even online merchants such as amazon,yesasia etc are concentrating their sales on dvds. Do we see them selling vcds? NO!.

What I'm trying to say is, today's market is already moving towards the HD direction. There is no use in still investing in old technology. Consumers just dosent see the value in it anymore. We want quality and we are willing to pay. Just look around, you'll see some hardcore fans spending all their money on R2 dvds. Why? Because quality is ensured. Hey, even PS3 dosent want those so-yesterday VCDs.

[ man VCD is oldshool! i remember when it was hip back in the days when it first came out... i went to best-buy and ask if they have any DVD player that can play VCD and they were like... "huh,? what's a VCD? what ever you see here is what we got." lol. I bet they would answer the same if i ask that question again! lol

anyways, VCD on HDTV = most crappiest pictures ever! I still have a few VCDs here. ]

PS : My opinions on why some people download animes. Like I have mentioned we are moving towards HD. Contents such as Darker than Black, Seto no Hanayome, Hayate no Gotoku, Moetan, Idol Masters, etc (yes, you see what im getting at). The mentioned titles are only availabled on tv aired in its native HD resolution 720p,1080i. And i dont know why, but none are being released in HD DVD nor Blu rays only DVDs. So the only way they can obtain those HD goodness is by downloading those that are being recorded on native HD. Unless we start seeing animes in HD DVDs n Blu Rays soon, these downloaders are here to stay.

Final words from writer : Though I may be a nobody. Just the average John Doe but what I have written may be the only voice that is reprenting us consumers on what we feel and wants.

Yesterday was a fun day, Met up with Zer0 today and a few other bloggers/people and we had a mini parody about the current issue that has been affecting most of the niche community. Those freeloaders otaku-wannabe that all seemed to be so fired up about it, where are the whole lot of you? it would have been alot nicer if there were more toys and figurine on display. but still it was fun nonetheless. i admit i didn't bring my gurren lagan, it was still in box so i didnt want to risk any damages.

The coverage in Zer0's perspective.

The day started off by meeting up Zer0 @ KKnM, We popped over to Youth Park for this parody.

All basic stuff done, lets head over to the site. I was surprisd to see 4 red armored riot-control-looking bus/van and 3-4 normal cars parking on the double yellow line. Sheesh, and they can just park there. :( there wasn't any sign informing the public if there were anything going on. In singapore you cannot park at the double line, is an offense. but that applies to civilians anyway. sigh, anyway i head over to the carpark to park my car, didn't want to risk to violate anymore parking laws. I just violated code 18 the night before. T__T

so when i was there, the toys and figurines were all lined up in place! omg i saw so many characters that accompanied me through childhood. it was so nostalgia just thinking about the shows i used to watch as a kid. man, time really flies.

I was surprised to see a big crowd gathering, i thought there would be less then 10 that would actually come down. On second look, well they are not interested in our little toys/figurine photoshoot, they are the guardians of law, protector of justice, the police. （≧ω≦）guess those that made comments that they are coming are just trash talkers. Talk IS cheap. But i'm a bit worried and disturbed by this person comment, he actually thought this photoshoot is going to spark off riots,

Like all paraodies out there, there really is no intention in deframing someone if there was any at all, is just a punchline for current issues. Something to make the current issue less tense but at the same time reflect on what is happening. i hope we didn't cross anyline by displaying our toys in public, dont remember if there is any law saying toys cannot be displayed for photoshooting purpose. But those toys can get dangerous too, kids under 3 in contact with them could sallow the smaller parts, resulting in chokes. So kids do not try this at home. Get an adult to supervise when you are playing with toys.

So anyway heres some shoots that i've took during the phototaking session. The lightning was good although we were in the shade, there were enough light. Anyway after being a youth for 20years, this was actually my First time staying longer than 10mins @ youth park. I don't know why but the youth park always gives me this impression it isn't safe to venture in alone, people hang out in groups there. now lets play, can you spot the toys? xD

I took my old vandread 2 vcds to the event to destroy, the silver color flaked off already and the disc was more or less unreadable already, sigh so much for my $17. It was in english dub, pretty dimwit i would say. i dont like my shows to have the original audio dubbed. it spoils the mood the Original director intended it to be.

heres a video on how to destroy optical media, Kids do not try this at home! it is dangerous! The person that is doing this is a trained personel, he has undergo special skin toughening excerises to protect from cuts.

After which we cleaned up and threw away the rubbish, tied up the trash in a bag before we dump it away, hooray for multiple dustbins around the area!

I guess the photoshoot was a success! it was really fun meeting you guys! all these toys really brought me back alot of memories, gosh i'm a such an otaku. the photoshoot was a warp up and we begin to clean up the area,

Heh, if you look at this few photo, it may look like a scene with many of their commdares fallen yet they still stood for what they believed in.

It was such a fun time doing the photoshoot, meeting everyone that i only know through the words they typed was great too. But there is one thing that really bugs me, the law enforcers that were present, i really felt there was an invasion of privacy. IC were taken away and screened through, There was this few guys/ladies armed with camera and doucmenting the whole event. It is fine if you are doing that but they went really close to take closeup of whoever is there, it really creeps me out.

Their mecha that were present, the amount of forces present, it gave me a really bad feeling during the whole photoshoot. it felt like there were sniper(s) camping around the area each of them had multiple targets locked, ready to shoot if they spot any danger. Or the whole place was filled with c4, ready to blow us up should we attempt anything dangerous.

After which, when we went over to orchard road for coffee, i noticed quite a few of those law enforcers that were present during the photoshoot was actually following us around, something like markers placed around the area to stalk us. It was really creepy walking towards the coffee place, there were quite a few pair of eyes locking onto you. You can really feel it.

but when we reached the coffee place, the mood was back up and we were chatting about what we used to watch and it was really nice. recalling all those old animes, shows that were shown some 5-10years back.

This move is done to protect my wallet, personally i have no trouble helping a friend pay first, but when orders start to pile up, the money too can pile up to quite a big sum. The 10% charge from your total is just to pay me for my part, take it as a middle man charge.

Note i dont do this for a living, this is just to protect my wallet. Frankly speaking i dont like to go after people for debts, both party wouldn't feel good if i keep chasing so if you need my help to order, cash first, simple enough?.

mah, anyway this is just a random post, nothing productive yet again. i just got back from office not too long ago also ~__~" so sad, part timer working longer than the full timer. lucky tomorrow is my last half day! YES MY FINAL LAST DAY AGAIN! . gonna drive there and will leave the office @ 1pm! Gwar!!

not really a bird-eye view, but heck, is around there LOL. yep.. my study area. Used to be proud of my wall painting, painted it wayyyy back around 2001, was 14 yrs old back then. Hell it has been 3 yrs since I draw anime/manga, partially school stuff piling up at that point of time. For now.. I am simpy too lazy to lift up my pencil :S.
