2) The Song is in everything and is everything and everything is part of the Song. Everything is an inseparable part of the whole.

This is where I have come across the thought that Pantheism and Monotheism may actually be different perspectives of the same thing. There is either one Deity who pervades all, or many deities who are so entwined with one another as to give the Presence a singular point of view. My own take is that this is One person, many aspects, though a solid argument could be made for the opposite view as well.

There is simply put a cohesiveness to the Universe that makes it such that, somewhere deep, it's all connected. I sometimes wonder if Hashem is simply so big that we exist in His/Her mind. And I even hate to put the gender thing there, as The One is actually Before gender, if that makes any sense.

I sometimes think of the gentle indulgence of Spirit in encouraging us to contemplate the cosmos. For, there is no doubt in my mind that such contemplation is desired on the part of Hashem by us. Yet, we cannot be any more than somewhat close at the best of times. There must be the sense of the "Proud Parent" when Hashem looks at the workings of the mind of an Albert Einstein and contemplates what big thoughts come from such little beings.

And then there are the rest of us, mundane thoughts, mostly of how to get through the day, what to wear, what to eat, the very things that Y'shua said were taken care of and should not be a source of worry for any of us, and the realization that it is not Hashem that keeps the plentitude from being there for all, that false lack of plenty comes from the wickedness of the few who "own" the resources. You cannot, in a very real sense "own" the Earth's plenty, but we have developed such an artificial system for just that "ownership" that we don't really seem to know any better.

There fore we have children starving in the US as well as in Darfur. Yeah, and Halliburton cannot figure out how to disperse all it's millions to make sure we foolish plebes cannot find them. Politically I am not a communist. That way of life does not seem to work for humans, but neither am I a pure capitalist. That way of life is killing millions while encouraging further overpopulation, how insane is that? The saddest part of all that starvation is the lack of vision on the part of the greedy who cannot see that when one soul hurts, all souls feel the pain on some level. Sometimes the music is beautiful, sometimes it is just sound, but it is always there.

I listened to the album and was really bummed out, "Oh they sound like ska with some punk...gggrrrrreat" Totally not up my alley. Though they describe their sound as many other things, all I could hear were ska undertones. And then all of a sudden they come out with this song! "Ottoman" is so delightful, I love the mood it creates lyrically and instrumentally. Getting a perfect fusion of both is always a joyous occasion. I tried listening to their album again, and I got into it more but I still hear a lot of ska. I finally started to hear the other elements, but I still think "Ottoman" is the best song they have out. It's like they took pieces of every song on their album and came up with a super song. That's what it feels like to me at least. "Ottoman" has become one of those pick-me-up songs for me. Perhaps I'll give the album a few more listens, I think it will grow on me. I like the song that much, and I also enjoy their cover of "Everywhere" by Fleetwood Mac too!

I just can't handle ACL. I went all out last year--open to close, all three days, media tent, afterparties and aftershows--and I think I just burned myself right out. Instead, I will be walking myself to tailgating and the UT game. Trying to drive or cab anywhere south of Enfield this weekend is going to be a horrible idea, so I'm planning on hoofing it everywhere. Thank god for the 80-degree weather we're being promised.

BUT I know so many of you out there are lovers of ACL, so I went to a minimal effort to find you the scoop on the good shows, the good aftershows, and--the best part--a sweet widget so you can customize your schedule, post your widget to all your social networking sites, and demonstrate to everyone else just how cool you are because you know what they should be seeing. This is clearly not me, as the only band I'd want to see is Vampire Weekend and they play at 2:30 on Friday, which means ACL doesn't think they're as good as the Statesman's Joe Gross does (and I'm basing my desire to see them entirely on his recommendation, which, for the record, I received before he wrote this article).

Anyway, without further rambling I present a list of two sites you could visit if you want actual info on ACL ... I tried to find more but unlike SXSW, most of the lil blogs leave it to the big dogs to write about ACL. Weird. Anyway, finally:

ACL Fest official page

Austin360's guide to aftershows

My ACL survival guide (if I were going again):

-Wear light-colored clothing, with a swimsuit. Girls, you're inevitably taking your shirt off to hide the sweat running down it, guys, you're inevitably taking your shirt off because it's hot as hell.

-Drink lots of water. Drinking booze is tempting, and sneaking it in is easy, but hydrate first. Drink later in the afternoon, you'll thank yourself for it later. And you'll remember at least half the bands you saw.

-Sunscreen. Don't get cancer, and don't be miserable for the following two days. Don't get sunburned, it will make you a thousand times hotter, which is not a place you want to be. Wear some freakin' sunscreen.

-Big, floppy hats / umbrellas / sunglasses / chairs with built in umbrellas / your program / whatever, use it.

-Take breaks/naps. Barton Springs, restaurants with a/c, under trees, or under someone else's chair, as long as you take a respite, it doesn't matter where.

-Don't try to drive and park. It never works. A bajillion and a half cabbies and pedicabs are circulating, buses and shuttles are all over the place (free from Republic Square!), or have friends/parents/bums drop you off. The other side (west) of the Mopac bridge is a great place to be dropped off and avoid the crazy Barton Springs Road traffic.

Shabat is the day when it's hard to go out for a walk with a baby stroller. Since the police is apparently not giving a fine for parking wrong on shabat, you find cars everywhere.. on the grass, on pavement, at the busstop etc. As soon as shabat is over - the car owners go back to normal parking habits.

While the cat is away, the mice will play...

Except for that we had a good day... walking a lot. At least the walking kept our 4-year-old's energy on a good level for a change and he didn't have so much energy left to make a balagan.. but also he was not too tired - so he didn't complain either. Perfect!

Tonight I finished the paper on theory and method that I have to hand in tomorrow.. That means I get a day off from studying tomorrow. Yeay!

A Texas songwriter filed suit claiming Tim McGraw's song "Everywhere" infringes on one of his compositions. The lawsuit was originally filed in Texas but was transferred to the U.S. District Court in Nashville.

Plaintiff must prove that Defendants had "access" to his prior composition. The complaint is vague on this issue and also implies that Terri Clark recording(s) also infringe on his work.

I think Plaintiff may have some problems with the applicable Statute of Limitations. Also, Plaintiff will have to establish how Defendants had access to his work--vague allegations won't cut it unless the songs are strikingly similar.

Jay Bowen and Tim Warnock represent all defendants. Here's copy of the complaint: mcgraw

Looking at the last several posts here at Marketing Pilgrim it looks like Google is getting pretty

Looking at the last several posts here at Marketing Pilgrim it looks like Google is getting pretty busy. While the rest of the world sits and wrings their hands about the economy and the end of the world as we know it, Google continues to invest, experiment and further cement its iconic position.

Now it is getting involved, albeit indirectly through investment, in getting internet connectivity to the under developed areas of the world. The company that is behind the latest effort to help make the internet truly global is 03b Networks which was founded and is run by Greg Wyler who is described in today?s WSJ as a 38 year old telecommunications entrepreneur. The ultimate goal of the company is to put as many as 16 satellites in the sky that would work to provide internet service to Africa, the Middle East and parts of Latin America by the end of 2010.

While this is not the first time this has been attempted the simple fact that Google is investing some undisclosed portion of the initial $60 million raised (the total cost to pull this off is stated at $65 million) makes it a bit unique. Not to bore you with the details but the idea is to get the signals to local service providers (not individual users) and they will then distribute the signal out over cellular networks or their own networks.

While Google is busy looking to handle the hiring of special high powered lawyers by the government to fight their deal with Yahoo! they are behind the scenes doing other things that will ultimately lead to more internet users to receive ads. Even though it is ?behind the scenes? it actually appears on the front page of the Marketplace section of the paper along with the story about the potential US lawsuit against them. It?s the efforts like this one that go ?almost? unnoticed but when one steps back and sees the larger world impact it shows Google may end up being bigger and more diverse then we can imagine. Think about it, in certain countries one day they may only need to dial 888-GOOGLE to get internet connectivity, phone service and access to all the goods and services they would ever want.

Sounds far-fetched I suppose but is it really?

Who doesn’t want to get high rankings in the search engines. I’ve read everywhere and ha

Who doesn't want to get high rankings in the search engines. I've read everywhere and have been sold a bill of goods that writing and publishing your own articles get you to the top of the search engines.
Think this through with me.
You will see for yourself it's not altogether true.
Let me paint a picture for you. . . You pick a keyword or keyphrase and write an article using your keyword or keyphrase that you think will rank well.
Next you submit your article to all the places you can submit articles to, ezines, directories and article submission sites.
(I know what I'm talking about, because I did this very thing). Wow! Your article gets published in many places, maybe hundreds.
Now you have hundreds of links pointing back to your main site…But what I found to be true was my own site never shows up in the top ten results for that specific keyword or keyphrase.
Rather, you discover that there are lots of other sites carrying your article that out rank yours. You've lost a great opportunity to reach high rankings for your keyword or keyphrase.
What have I done wrong, you ask yourself. Why you just gave your keyword filled article to possible people who compete with you because they can publish your article on their website. They get the high ranking and your ranking stays the same.
So, how did this happen? Right from the start, your article was used for the wrong purpose. (This was a hard lesson for me to discover).
The right way to use articles to hike up your search engine rankings.
1. Putting one of a kind articles on your website.
Articles made available for reprint by you, now have the possibility of being published on hundreds of other sites, which means, they no longer meet the requirements as one of a kind or unique content.
2. Feed the Spider
Look at this way, your articles are like crumbs dropped along a path.
When you publish your articles all over the web it's like leaving a trail of food for someone to follow (the search engines in this case).
But where do you want the search engines to go as they follow the trail (food for the Spider)? BACK TO YOUR WEBSITE!
Back to your one of a kind content (such as a report, article you wrote just for your website.)
3. Keywords - Place keywords in your Resource Box As Anchor Text.
This is the important point. Place your keyword or keyphrase in the anchor text of the article resource box that has a link pointing back to your unique content.
What happens is you make hundreds of keyword links pointing back to the your well optimized report on your website, and give your pages a gigantic advantage over other websites.
Many times this alone is enough to take your Website to the top of the search results, particularly with Google and MSN.
These tips are a few steps you need to get a high ranking for the keywords that you have chosen.

Some messed up stuff has happened to me in kitchens. There was the time I stuck my finger into a hand blender to get out some cake mixture and then accidentally pressed the 'blend' button *faint*. Then there was the time I was cooking with some innocent looking baby peppers that turned out to be habanero chillies, which caused my hands to burn for a whole night. There have been countless spillages - an upturned bowl of clam pasta on our rug, a large tub of yogurt on my sneakers, the list goes on. And then there was last night when a large glass bowl exploded spectacularly in my hands as I was peering at it with great interest.

See our kitchen is very small and there isn't much work surface, so sometimes we use the parts of our stove that aren't hot as work surface. Last night one plate in the front had a pot full of beautiful bolognaise sauce, which had been cooking for two hours, simmering away. What needed to happen next was the making of a large salad and cooking of spaghetti. So I took out a large, heavy glass bowl for the salad, but there was no space for it, so I put it on one of the back plates of the stove which was off. Then I 'turned on' the second front plate for making the spaghetti. Now, here is were the so-called complicating event (I've been reading my interactive narrative linguistics!) happened: the pictures/icons on our stove panel which tell you which knob turns on which hot plate are kind of ambiguous (see the picture below) and after over two years of using this stove we still sometimes turn on the wrong plate. This has led some minor incidents of melting spoons and uncooked pasta wallowing in room temperature water for ages before we realise that its plate's not on. But not last night ooooh noooo, last night was special.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="372" caption="can you tell which knob goes with which hot plate?"][/caption]

I put on the kettle to boil water for the spaghetti and started washing lettuce, all the while, unbeknownst to me, the spaghetti pot remained unheated while that glass bowl perched on the back plate was getting hot hot hot. I turned back to the stove pour the now boiled water into the spaghetti pot, looked over at the glass bowl, picked it up and thought 'mmm there seems to be a brown ring on the bottom of this bowl'. And then I put it *back* on the hot hot plate and went off to do something else. When I came back, I thought to myself 'Sheesh! Why isn't this water boiling yet?!'. This is when the little lights in my pinball brain started to bling faintly, I picked up the glass bowl again and looked at it real closely. I started remarking to Dave, who was standing behind me, how I must have put the glass bowl on a hot plate by accident and it now had a brown *PLOOOWWW* - that there bowl just exploded in my hands, I mean really exploded, loudly, spewing chunks of glass into every concievable corner of our tiny kitchen. There were no pieces in my fingers, it was all over the floor, on top of the fridge, in the coffee machine, all over the counters. But like so many of my disasterous stories there was some mercy (see this is how I know God assigned me a Special Forces Klutz Control angel) - that pot with the beautiful bolognaise sauce was closed and the only injury sustained was a teeny scratch on my wrist. The only real consequence was that we had to stage a complete kitchen clean before Luisa, Dave and I could get down to to the business of eating. As always when this kind of thing happens I was pretty much stunned for an hour after that repeating alternately 'I can't believe that happened' and 'Why do things like that seem to happen to me?'. So kids - hot glass cools down a lot faster than it heats up and this leads to big *KER PLOW*, don't try this at home.

In the span of their short but incredibly successful career, we've heard Vampire Weekend cover Radiohead's "Exit Music (For A Film)" and Tom Petty's "Don't Come Around Here No More." This time around, they take it back to the 1980s again with an outstanding cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Everywhere". Performed exclusively for Triple J Radio in Australia, the cover sees Ezra Koenig adding his own touch to Stevie Nicks' vocals, while the band puts their own modern, lo-fi pop spin on "Everywhere," originally released by Fleetwood Mac in 1987. If Vampire Weekend's covers are going to be this good all the time, my guess is that we'll start seeing flood of concert bootlegs popping up in the internet in the next year or so, which is fine by me as long as they don't get mislabeled as Phish or Rage Against The Machine.

Speaking of the band's live show, Vampire Weekend will be in Louisville next Tuesday for a show at Headliners Music Hall with special guest White Williams, whose debut album Smoke you may recall me talking up last fall. The show is sold out, but good luck to all you Craigslist and e-Bay crawlers out there. But be careful...things can get sketchy and pricey in the fast-paced world of online indie-rock ticket buying.

Hey drivers,

This is a new idea I am going to try to implement, this being the Charter system. As in any transportation company, there are charters which occur on a daily basis. A Chartered bus will be only available to those using or taking part in a purchaser's program or promotion, this means do NOT stop at bus stops or terminals along the way unless designated on the provided map. New Chartered routes will be added shortly, and sent off to you guys to begin serving the requests! A note to remember however is like all Charters, the contract will run out. Once each Charter is posted, it will remain for a certain, posted, amount of time. Following this time, the route will no-longer be operable. Don't worry though, more will replace outgoing ones on a regular basis!
