Being in a relatively rural area of Korea, at least compared to the metropolis of Seoul, I have been able to get some of the freshest organic, free-range, what have you, poultry from a local lady that raises the chickens and ducks herself and will butcher them right then and there for you.

No, I don't have pictures, because it's just slightly too graphic to post...okay actually I didn't bring my camera when I went with my aunt to pick up a chicken. Besides, it'd feel slightly out of place to be taking pictures when the bird's guts are being pulled out. Although I did find it amusing I wasn't put off in any way about eating the chicken even after seeing it go from clucking to gutted to on my plate. Then again, I have never really been squeemish about anything.

More importantly though, dear friends and/or strangers of the internet, is the reality of eating freshly killed, only-been-dead-for-45-minutes chicken. That is REAL chicken.

My aunt just boiled it whole in a traditional Korean chicken soup with ginseng, jujube, garlic, and salt, and I was in heaven. The meat was chewy, because these chicken was able to actually move around, but so intensely flavorful. It wasn't because of the seasoning, but because of the chicken itself was delicious.

I know it was the chicken that was tasty because, I ate some of it raw.

GASP! Yes, I know, it goes against everything the FDA tells you to do about chickens and salmonella and all that. But breast meat has never tasted so good as when it's raw, like sashimi. Dipped in some sesame oil and salt, it has an intense natural chicken flavor that you could never get from a supermarket.

Now for the disclaimer: DON'T go out to a supermarket and try to slice yourself some chicken sashimi. Not matter how many organic, free-range claims it makes, it is impossible to care for the chickens properly on such a large scale. The risk is too high for contracting salmonella or any other serious diseases. My aunt has been getting poultry from that lady and has known her for a good 15 years. She knows how the chickens are cared for and trusts the lady enough to be able to eat the chicken raw.

With that aside, if you ever have a (trustworthy) opportunity to try raw chicken, I suggest you do. It's not crazy, I've eaten a chicken tartare at a restaurant with a different aunt. There people out there that eat raw chicken! And see, I've lived to write about it!

True Blue Spa Tahiti Sweetie Body Lotion (and also Be More Pacific Shower Cream), available at Bath & Body Works.

From bathandbodyworks.com: Need an escape but can't get away? Or maybe you just got back from the perfect island spa and wish you were still there. Your best remedy? Tahiti, Sweetie Body Lotion with Tahitian Monoi, an island secret used for centuries for its mysterious moisturizing effects. This exotic blend combines coconut oil and the Tiare flower to produce a daily indulgence for dry, tired skin.

CLASSIFICATION: Very tropical, fresh

SIMILAR SCENT(s): N/A

FORM: Body Lotion and Shower Cream

I am not a fan of many Bath & Body Works scents, so I was very leery of even entering the store despite the fact that I had a $25 gift card in my wallet. It seems as though every time I find a scent I like while browsing their vast array of lotions, perfumes, and cleansers, I take it home only to realize that I made a horrible mistake.

[caption id="" align="alignleft" width="194" caption="Be More Pacific Shower Cream"][/caption]

I was very pleasantly surprised when I got home with this product. Instead of the usual dislike I feel for Bath & Body Works products after I have had ample time to acquaint myself with their scents, I was instantly addicted.

Both the shower cream and the body lotion are the same scent, despite the difference in names. The fragrance is light, fruity, tropical, and fun-spirited. The shower cream and body lotion take me back to my last beach vacation in Florida, and to the memories of walking barefoot in the sand along the ocean.

Both products, in addition to smelling wonderfully, are of excellent quality. The shower cream rinses away and leaves skin baby soft, while the lotion absorbs into the skin, hydrating even the roughest spots.

(We highly recommend reading our guide to understanding our grading system if you haven't already)

First sniff (bottle): A

First sniff (skin): A

Worn scent: A

Staying power: N/A (In my experience, shower and lotion products do not really last on skin).

Scent as compared to note(s): A

Bottle: N/A

Overall: A

I recommend these two products to anyone wanting a joyful, tropical scent that is prepared to spend a little too much money on them; both products cost $15 USD. My only complaint is that Bath & Body Works / True Blue Spa needs to develop a perfume or body spray at the very least to match the lotion and shower cream, as I would really like to smell this scent on my skin throughout the day.

This recipe works best with berries at the height of the season. I go and pick olallie berries at

This recipe works best with berries at the height of the season. I go and pick olallie berries at a U-Pick farm, and then make this pie the same day. The berries in the pie are not baked, instead they are held together with a thickened sauce, highlighting the freshness of the berries. Because of the nature of the pie, you can only make for about two months out of the year (if that), but it is definitely worth the wait.

First you make and pre-bake the almond pastry crust, then add the filling.

For Filling:

4 1/2 cups blackberries
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons cornstarch
0-1 cups sugar (based on how sweet your berries are)

For a 9-in Sweet Almond Crust:

1 cups all purpose flour
1/4 cup finely ground almonds
1/2 tablespoon brown sugar
1 stick butter (if using unsalted, don't forget to add a bit of salt to the crust)
2-3 tablespoons ice water
pie weights (you can use dried beans, rice, or those fancy pie weights from Williams Sonoma)

Directions:

Preheat Oven to 400 F

For crust:
In large mixing bowl, combine the flour, ground almonds, brown sugar and salt together. Cut the butter into one inch cubes. Rub the butter pieces into the flour mixture. Add the ice water and rub in, until dough comes together. If the dough is sticky, refrigerate for an hour.

Dust a surface with flour. Lay out a sheet of plastic wrap that is at least as long as it is wide. Place the dough in the center of the plastic wrap and pat flat. Place a second sheet of plastic wrap the same size as the first over the dough. You will be rolling out the dough between the 2 sheets of plastic, which results in the dough absorbing less excess flour, and greatly reduces the risk of unfortunate sticking.

Place the rolled out dough in a 9-in pie plate. Line with foil or parchment paper and pour in pie weight, filling to the edges.

Bake about 20 minutes, or until crust begins to look cooked. Remove foil and pie weights, and continue baking for five minutes. Remove from oven.

For Filling:

Mash 1 1/2 cups of the berries. Dissolve the cornstarch in the water. Add berries and cornstarch mixture to a sauce pan. Add sugar if using. Cook over medium heat until warm and thick. Remove from heat.

Pour 1/4 cup of thickened berry mixture into the pie crust. Add the remaining berries. Pour the rest of the berry mixture over top, distributing evenly. Let cool and serve.

My Own Vegetable Garden

I always wanted to grow my own vegetable garden. How wonderful it would be to pick tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and so much more from my own garden.

Growing a vegetable garden has its rewards:

•	Save money on grocery bill
•	Fresh vegetable daily
•	Out door activity

Start planning what you want to grow and decide when to start planting. Then, pick out an ideal spot with plenty of sun light, and be sure to plant away from any buildings, fences or trees (some exceptions). Remove any debris from the area, fertilize, plant the seeds, and nurture the garden as it grows.

Make sure that the soil is well drained. Once everything is established you will need to keep a watchful eye for bugs, weeds, and water regularly. When watering vegetables be sure to water at the base and not the leaves, because watering the leaves could cause disease in many plants.

Creating your own vegetable garden is something to be proud of. I would like to share my garden creation with you, and hope that you will be inspired to do the same. I will post pictures and ideas right here for you to see first hand the vegetables of my labor. Please share some of your gardening tips with me!

NOTES (as listed on fragrancenet.com): amber, freesia, tangerine, muguet, green apple, peach, peony, musk

I bought this on a whim, with a gift card that was going to expire. I wanted to smell it prior to purchase, as I hadn't even so much as READ about it at that point, but there was no tester. Since I had to spend the gift card or lose it, I went ahead and got it. Quite the opposite of my Wrapped With Love purchase, Guess New went down in history as one of my best "uneducated" perfume purchases.

CLASSIFICATION: clean, fresh, feminine

AGE GROUP: college

SIMILAR SCENT(s): n/a

FORM: eau de parfume

Once my purchase was complete, I tore into the box that Guess New came in. I couldn't wait to see everything - the bottle, the color! Nor could I wait to smell this for the first time. I was expecting the worst as I pulled the velvety powder-pink satchel out. Anxiously, I pulled the perfume from the satchel. I was a bit perplexed by the bottle shape and appearance. I was expecting it to be a bit more trendy rather than modern looking, and maybe a bit more young. But, as we always say (and even more so in reference to fragrances) - it's what's inside that counts.

My first whiff of this was extremely pleasing. Instantly I was enveloped in cleanliness, freshness, and femininity. The scent reminds me of the first step out of a nice, cool shower on a warm, muggy summer evening - where you entered feeling worn, tired, and dull.. but left feeling revitalized, energized, and fresh.

To me, it's just a generally positive, pleasing scent. There are no heavy or overbearing notes, and the scent didn't change from first sniff to being worn until the end of the day. Although this is a parfume, the staying power (on me) left a little to be desired; it didn't dissipate quickly, but it wasn't as long lasting as Iong as I had hoped. I actually thought it was an eau de toilette until checking the bottom of my bottle moments ago.

Lastly, although there are some fruity notes (tangerine, green apple, peach), they are not particularly discernible. This is by no means a fruity fragrance.

REPORT CARD

(We highly recommend reading our guide to understanding our grading system if you haven't already)

Scent as compared to note(s): A

Bottle: B-

Overall: A++

Guess New is a non-abrasive, gentle, feminine and clean fragrance. To me, it works well in any climate, during any season (Summer, Winter, and all in between), but is best suited for every day/casual occassions.

CLASSIFICATION: floral, romantic, fresh

AGE GROUP: perfect for anyone

SIMILAR SCENT(s): n/a

FORM: eau de parfume

I read some online reviews on Guess (New) by Guess several months back, and decided that I needed to have it. I immediately went to eBay.com to purchase a small-commitment mini. After days of stress related panic while I waited for this perfume to be delivered to me via mail, when I finally I opened it, I expected to smell the foul order of rotten eggs or something equally horrible, and was instead pleasantly surprised.

Guess New is a lovely fresh yet floral scent that is neither offensive nor nondescript. On the contrary, it's very distinctive, and is definitely a scent that could be worn on any occasion. The romantic aspect is perfect for a night on the town, yet the soft freshness is suitable for relaxing with a small group of friends.

I had no problem with the staying power; sprayed at the beginning of the day, I can smell Guess on myself until I go to bed.

First sniff (bottle): A

First sniff (skin): A

Worn scent: A

Staying power: A

Scent as compared to note(s): A

Bottle: C (I have no real issues with the appearance of the bottle, however, the cap only fits on the bottle one particular way, and for some reason, that is always the wrong way for me at first attempt).

Overall: A++

Guess New is a lovely, fresh, and feminine fragrance that I am quick to recommend to any woman of any age group, and for any occasion.

NOTES (as listed on fragrancenet.com): water hyacinth, violet, fresh pear, white freesia, jasmine, muguet, sweet pea, rose, orange blossom, heliotrope, peach

I was visiting with my sister for the weekend, she was finishing up getting ready to go out while I browsed her new magazine selection. I came upon an advertisement for the (at the time) new fragrance from Gwen Stefani, and immediately became excited. I admired many of the pieces from her fashion line L.A.M.B., and expected this fragrance to be ultra-fun, ultra-flirty, and ultra-sassy. We went to Nordstrom's right away so that I could investigate further...

CLASSIFICATION: unique, fresh, feminine, slightly floral

AGE GROUP: college

SIMILAR SCENT(s): n/a

FORM: eau de parfume

To my surprise, L by Gwen Stefani was NOT flirty, was NOT fruity, and was not at ALL sassy. It did not represent the in-your-face, fun-loving, zany Gwen Stefani of yesteryear. I know now that this scent was definitely created with her "classic," "timeless," beauty phase in mind (think: softly curled hair, glamorous red lips, mysteriously lengthy eyelashes). This was a bit of a let down for me compared to what I was expecting, but I did not lose interest, or hope. I sniffed the tester numerous times before making the plunge - I sprayed my wrist ever so lightly. We continued walking about as I would check the scent every few moments. One of my favorite things about L by Gwen Stefani is it's consistency. The scent did not change at all from first sniff of the nozzle, to first spray on the wrist, to being worn all day.

The scent itself is a bit tricky, for me, to put my finger on. It's unlike any fragrance that I have ever smelled, and perhaps doesn't fit into my normal perfume tastes. It's more on the mature side, which I usually shy away from - although this fragrance is not by any means a bad fit for the younger, college crowd. It's definitely not overwhelming, but has staying power and an attention-getting aroma. While there are some fruity notes (pear, orange, peach), they are not abundant whatsoever, and I would not consider this fragrance fruity in the least bit. For me, it's just a fresh, feminine scent that is timeless; wear it with jeans and flip flops or out on a fancy dinner date and either way, it won't be out of place.

Marc Jacobs "Daisy"
NOTES (as listed on nordstrom.com): Top notes: bright and fresh violet

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="150" caption="Marc Jacobs "Daisy""][/caption]

NOTES (as listed on nordstrom.com): Top notes: bright and fresh violet leaves, wild strawberries. Mid notes: comfortable violet petals, jasmine bouquet. Base notes: feminine musk, vanilla infusion.

I was very excited about trying Daisy after reading rave reviews about how it was THE fragrance to have for the 18-24 age group, and how it was basically the best thing since God created man. Plus, the bottle is to die for.

CLASSIFICATION: Fresh and floral opening that turns musky.

AGE GROUP: college at first, fading into mature.

SIMILAR SCENT(s): N/A

FORM: Eau de Toilette

When this is first sprayed, both on paper and on skin, it is a beautiful, light-hearted sparkling floral. The aroma is youthful and full of energy. First sprayed, Daisy is everything I imagined it would be and more. Within seconds, I considered myself sold.

Unfortunately, (both on paper and on skin) the scent dries to a heady, musky scent. The sparkling and playfulness is gone, replaced by a scent befitting Blanche from the Golden Girls. It becomes overpowering; when dry, the fragrance is to the point of being sickening, even with only one spray.

I keep testing this fragrance over and over, hoping I change my mind, as I am known to do once I become more comfortable with a scent. It's hard for me to believe that something that opens so beatifically can finish so horrifically. Oh, how you disappointed me, Daisy.

REPORT CARD

I never really thought twice about Daisy; I would see it "in passing" while perfume-shopping online, in random advertisements, etc. While I do enjoy a good floral, my heart belongs to fruity scents, fresh scents, and feminine scents. Not that one cannot be a mixture or combination or multiple classifications, but for some reason I just assumed that Daisy wouldn't suit my needs and that it would be mediocre floral.

While it wasn't necessarily mediocre (that would be a step up), it was not enjoyable on me. At first spray I, too, really liked it. I didn't gather that it was light-hearted or a floral, but I didn't mind the strongness of the scent as, for me, it was a very nicely combined floral with fruitiness to it (must have been those damn wild strawberries). I began to eat my words as I continued sniffing my wrist just to get another whiff of the surprising awesomeness that was Daisy. In an unfortunate turn of events, however, everything quickly changed as things started to get heavier, thicker, less-fruity, less-floral, and more mature. While it's not necessarily my cup of tea, I don't necessarily have anything against mature fragrances; just that more often than not, you get a feeling of suffocation, even from the lightest spray (I do NOT apply heavily when testing, and even in general, unless I know that I prefer a certain scent applied less sparingly).

Suffocation didn't even begin to describe my experience with Marc Jacobs Daisy. It was powerful, but in an overwhelming, I'm coughing because this is so aromatic way. I continued smelling my wrist to see if it died down at all and it didn't. I must give credit where credit is due - if you want a long lasting scent, Daisy is your man.. err, woman. I think. But be warned - it's not as feminine as one would assume (or at least, as I did), and the lovely top notes disappear quickly to make room for the (in my opinion) obnoxious "feminine" musk.

Lastly, although irrelevant to the scent itself, I think I am the only person on the planet who doesn't adore this bottle. It's not that I dislike it, but it just isn't anything special to me. It's cute, yes, but I never thought twice about it. As a side note, it won Fragrance Foundation's FiFi Award for Women’s Prestige Best Packaging, 2008.

First sniff (bottle): B

First sniff (skin): A+

Worn scent: D-

Staying power: A+

Scent as compared to note(s): C-

Bottle: C+

Overall: D

If you enjoy a mature, strong, captivating (to put it nicely) fragrance with staying power, give Daisy a try - despite the flirtiness of the top notes (don't worry - they'll disappear before you know it!), it's definitely a heavier scent.

Over the past year, I have been half-heartedly attempting to launch a business. Between "Mommy, I'm hungry", poopy diapers, settling toddler disputes and cleaning up spilt milk, juice, waffles, cereal etc. etc., I didn't get too much momentum going. We've also had some personal obligations that have kept us on the road. The kids and I have not been in one place for longer than 6 weeks in the last 12 months. Everything I did was in 15 or 30 minute increments. Not exactly conducive to being uber productive.

Us Moms are definitely the queens of multi-tasking though and 15 minutes here and there was better than none.

I just had my first official 4 day work week though. Yes, I FINALLY secured some consistent in home child care. It is an interim solution until our nanny arrives but I will take it. I think I got more accomplished on RK's in 4 days than I have in 4 months.

Despite my new found productivity, there is always "MG" ... yes, Mommy Guilt. You know you feel it too ... no matter where you are, no matter what you are doing, you feel that twang of guilt because you aren't doing something else. Why are we so hard on ourselves? Why do we think we can do it all? I seriously need to work on this. From now on, no more guilt ... yeah right.

I'm pleased to say my logo designer has agreed to go ahead and help me with my website design. That is a relief because you certainly would not have wanted to see what I could come up with. Don't get me wrong, I know what I want and am quite particular about the look and feel of my site but it is great to have an expert help me get there!

I'm madly acquiring prices and supplier agreements on my "high priority" products. Getting their pricing is one thing, placing the orders is another. Shelling out mucho dinero to build my inventory is a bit scary to say the least. My Mom/Savvy gift giver focus group has had quite favorable feedback on my selections thus far so let's hope others are as excited as we are about the clothing, toys, gear & accessories we will have.

Week 1 down, can't wait for week #2. Bring it on.

OK so there are two like music type things i have been feeling the past couple days. First Kid cudi, had a new mixtape like literally released the other day. I love this guys music so dope. On some tracks he has this singer rapper thing that I'm so feeling. its like good shit. You need to listen up because this guy is going to be making some big noise soon. Kid CuDi Mixtape

Also i was on hypebeast the other day doing my daily updates and such, and came across an amazing rocksmith video. Not only did it one make me want to get the clothes, but two i was like damn this track they are playing is so good. So i went and look up the guy his name Theophilus London, a guy out of brooklyn, and he is on some other shit. But i tell you what it is some phenomenal stuff. here is the rocksmith video. good clothes as well with the music. awesome stuff. i definitely will be trying to add that to my closet sometime soon. And also i got some music by Theophilus as well.

The music finds do not stop there no. I also was put on by my boy Taylor, to this awesome new sound. There is this new electro band type thing going around, the first group to hit it big is MGMT, there are the amazing with the high pitched falsetto voices over some awesome electronic like beats. This group Passion pit is amazing. The have this amazing soulful sound that i am a big fan of. You get some good vibes from it. Its like a majestic disco electro rock. that's how i see it being.

Unfortunately i could not find any of there music on the web available for download. but hit there Myspace, and listen to sleepy head. Euphoric track.

“And Samuel was afraid to tell Eli the vision." 1 Samuel 3:15

Do you remember the last time that you absolutely knew that God was speaking to you? I think that He is always trying to get my attention, but it seems that the only way times that I am really focused on listening are when I am under tremendous pressure. When my life is in the furnace-of-affliction I am desperate to hear His voice and instruction.

I am in one of those seasons now in my life. I know that God is speaking loudly to me. My life is upside down and I seem helpless to be able to get my footing. The vision in my spirit however is very clear. God is in absolute control of every event and trial that is allowed to buffet me. As a child of God I am not a victim of these circumstances in my life.

“Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” Job 13:15

This painting was inspired by the powerful devotions penned and published by Oswald Chambers in the early 1900’s. His powerful book, My Utmost for His Highest, continues to touch my life and draw me closer to Jesus. I hope that this art and verse do the same for you!
