America has always been uniquely defined as the country for the common people regardless of heritage or prior mistakes. In the past, all were welcome to immigrate and build a new life. Forging that new life in the thickly forested wilderness meant working hard from sun-up to sun-down. Our masters will say that "they" built this nation, but I disagree. It was the average, ordinary new American citizens that built everything we see today and in our collective past. They cleared the wilderness so that we could travel on trails and eventually roads. They cleared the forests to plant the nation's abundant crops for our sustenance. Settlers journeyed across the New World's vast expanse under horrendous and arduous conditions to erect cities, towns and rural communities and they fought the nation's earliest wars. Through trials, hardships, sweat and blood the common people are responsible for the greatness that was once, America.

The sacraments, the theological legacy, and our rich heritage of our church heroes are now considered offensive and out of touch with reality. Therefore replacing them with euphemisms in order to keep the masses. The idea of such a notion to replace the "old" church with the "new" is aimed to drawing in those put-off by the conventional-boring and dry ministries. One can empathise with such sentiments for nobody enjoys a heartless and dead faith (which Christianity is NOT). If we remove the offensiveness of Christianity in order to attract unbelievers we suffer the very loss of our identity, thereby looking like a social group of mates with neither cause, nor purpose that remains to be Christ-centred. Being ashamed of the gospel by preaching another gospel defies the work of Christ. Nothing should be more important than the gospel! We love others to Christ by the gospel and not for the gospel. We share of a Christ crucified Saviour and not a Christ crucified for the boosting of one's ego. Let's not "throw out the baby with the bath water."

The Newmont Military Band is the featured event with a performance from 2 to 3:30 PM. Also, enjoy the Sunapee Time Travellers performing on the Flanders Stage and take in the restored steamroller and antique fire truck on display and old movies running in the historical society museum. For extra fun, come with a self-decorated hat and participate in a fancy hat contest, and if you feel like dressing in period costume, that would be great. And, antique boat and car owners are invited to swing by, as well. (Poster and photo courtesy of the Sunapee Historical Society)

Water is one of the most important basic elements necessary for life. A land without water is a plac

Water is one of the most important basic elements necessary for life. A land without water is a place where there aren’t any human beings, animals or plants. That is why water is regarded as invaluable resource. Although water is an important substance, man has not realized the value of it and man has been misusing water for a long time. The water of the village tanks is used for various purposes such as washing, bathing and drinking. Almost all our streams, rivers tanks and other waterways are contaminated by the man and the water is not at all safe for drinking.
Some people are in the habit of wasting water purposely. They don’t use water economically. If we have a look at out public taps it is a sad sight. Most of the taps are half – open. They never close the taps properly after use.
It is said that a person can live several days without food, but he or she can’t live more than three days without water. This fact clearly shows the value of water.
We can see garbage in tons heaped up near the waterways. Some factories freely drain the industrial chemical waste and effluents into waterways posing a deadly threat to human and other animal life. It is apparent that the quantity of water available for consumption is not at all sufficient for the entire population of the world. Water resource too is limited as well as other natural resources. The population is increasing day by day. The world population has multiplied five – fold during the last 150 years.
Special programmers have to be kept clean in order to ensure a healthy and safe life for the people. As a result of the pollution, most of our waterways have become breeding grounds of deadly diseases.
The government has set up an establishment called “water supply and drainage board” in order to supply pure drinking water to the people. People living in certain villages in the dry zone have to trek two or three miles in search of drinking water. When there is a drought, thousands of cattle in these areas die due to lack of water.
In view of the above facts we can easily realize that water is an invaluable substance. Let’s preserve water resources for ever.
