Saturday, 10 May 2008:

Well, got up in the morning. the whole family except my brother had breakfast together. brother went to school camp, which i didn't know at the first place at all. he shall get it from me when he reached home. *hiakdish* we watched Tiga Abdul and Jodhaa-Akbar. (This is a MUST watch!!!) help mum with some marketing to for fried noodles. by 12 noon, me and my younger sisters help mum with moving and carrying the furnitures and things brought home by mum last Friday. i was really exhausted as it seemed that i was the one who did the most carrying. the whole situation felt like as if we were preparing to move house. still in the process of consideration... hmm... by afternoon, my aunts, uncles and cousins came to my house. we were like having the Mother's Day Celebration in advance. all of us had great fun. watching DVDs, storytelling and joking around with each other, especially many of my cousins are toddlers. so i love when there are small kids around me. wee! all went home by 10pm. time to spring clean the house after the mess. but i leave all that to my sisters since i went out for a while to meet up with safina and aishah. wee! i was sooo bloodyyyyy gladdddddd to seeee themmmm... we talked for a while and joked like hell. although it was like half an hour, i felt satisfied. hehex. i'm going to meet them again on Wednesday!!!! wait for me girls! went home, bathed and off to bed.

A.R.Rahman upcoming film Ada will carry a tagline “A musical journey by A.R.Rahman”. And

A.R.Rahman upcoming film Ada will carry a tagline "A musical journey by A.R.Rahman". And this is the first time when a film of rahman would carry a tagline. The movie directed by Tanvir Ahmed has been in making for a long time and stars Rahul Roy and few new comers. Rahman says the music is special to him as he tried some special stuff for the first time. "I have used different beats and sounds in the songs. I have also rendered an Italian feel to one of the songs", says Rahman, adding that the audience should appreciate the album for its variety"

The maestro is back in the news after mesmerizing with his last outing Jodhaa Akbar. After delivering the music for one of the most grand and majestic films Hindi cinema has seen, A.R. Rahman's next outing is in the form of a more modest venture. Debut director Tanvir Ahmad's Ada with the tag-line "A way of life" will release later this year.

In fact, the film has been on the floors for about six years and earlier boasted of a cast including Amitabh Bachchan. Now, the film has been re-vamped with newcomers and should be completed by next month. It stars Rahul Roy, Nauheed Cyrusi and Ayesha Jhulka in pivotal roles.

Of the music, Rahman tells CNN-IBN, "The music of the film actually took six years to make because the film started six years back in 2002. The music has a very old school melody feel. But it also has other tunes so it does have a colour of different genres in it."

Since the making of the music has spanned over six years, audiences can expect a large range of tunes coming their way! In addition to Ada, A.R. Rahman has Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Ghajini and Yuvraaj slated for release this year. According to latest press release from Big Music, they are planning to release the album on May 13th, 2008

I think I was the last one in my city to watch Jodhaa Akbar. I have also heard my share of reviews of the movie. "Stupid!" "Booooooooooring...!!" "Hmmm.. One time watchable..." "Barely watchable" "Err... Come again?" and so on... But seriously guys, what have you 'actually' seen in the movie?? Or, Have you 'actually' even seen the movie?? Come on!! Stop your typical comment-dropping mode! And when I say that, I also mean stop closing your eyes, switching off your minds when you reach the theatres all right? If your going there expecting your bucks' worth, might as well devote those worthwhile four hours of your Life watchig that worthwhile movie!! I really cannot think of the last blessed time when such a well executed movie came along!!!! Seriously!! Why not try and really try to understand what the movie is trying to convey? Why not watch and really watch the creatively successful path filmdom is taking this generation days? And if you cannot understand the language and the true meanings of what is being spoken in the movie, quit trying to use your own typical language to look, well... typical! If you cannot appreciate, atleast donot critisize! *phew*

Mr. Director sir, I loved your Swades. I loved your Lagaan.
Jodhaa Akbar, you had potential. But you... you friggin' crashed out my pent-up energy. I demand you give me back my 4.5 hours of my life.

Don't you hate when you have so much hype and excitement for a movie but later after its release, you realise that the movie turns out to be a bloody flop?

On the plus side, at least we got to see Hrithik and Aishwarya in the lead after their blockbuster hit, Dhoom 2 (even with the empty plot, testosterone and a controversial kiss between the two). And at least some fanservice for the ladies as seen below.

No but I’m serious. All this scenes in this movie was baloney. I wanted to see some aspects of Emperor Akbar’s life. Not a whole dollop of it. I couldn’t help but skip through many scenes. There’s far too much dialogue to take. One scene after another about politics and war and bunch of baloney. I feel as though I was cheated. If your movie's tag line spoke about a sixteenth century epic love despite religious differences, please for goodness sakes, deliver on that promise. Sadly, my bum's endurance isn't up to par with the Olympic athletes.

For those who don’t know, the actual Mughal emperor, Akbar The Great, married a Rajput princess to ease tension between the two clans and to create an alliance. It was quite controversial at the time as the Muslim Mughals were not supposed to mix with Hindu Rajputs. The Rajputs were already garnering attention from rival clans with their powerful fighting skills (mind you, the Rajputs were excellent warriors from tradition and were more likely to be enlisted in the Royal British Army before India's Independence in 1947). Akbar was known to be tolerant of the various religions in his kingdom and created his own religious cult called the Din-i-illahi where he would hold many debates among numerous religious scholars until that cult dissipated shortly after his death. There isn't much known about his wife---Rumour has it that her name was erased from historical records by scholars to prevent shame on their beloved emperor. There's only one reference naming her as Jodhabhai or Mariam-Uz-Zamani. Other than that, her previous history is unknown. However it was known that she had conditions prior to accepting his marriage: she would not change her religion and would like him to build a temple. Of course, this caused a rift among the members of the court and treated her as an outcast.

So how does Bollywood showcase their epic love to control this fiery princess down? Throuuugh some lovin', of course. I must admit though, the movie was nicely choreographed and there are some beautiful scenes (like where Aishwarya and Hrithik were in the same room only the curtain separates the two). And the magical chemistry between the two was perfect as expected from their past work together in Dhoom 2.

Still, this movie does not cut the cake for me.

Now after that rant, I highly recommend to douse your eyes with some sizzling videos from Dhoom 2.

Crazy Kiya Re (Literally, "You Make Me Crazy")

Art, fabric designing and film characters are great allies for making fantasy and passion tied and fruitful. Neeta Lulla does show it. The fashion designer from India knows how to enjoy her job at very beautiful and precious hights. The new collection presented at Lakme India Spring-Summer is a "saree rainbow of delicate pastels" on soft and important fabrics such as organza and silk.

I went to watch Jodhaa Akbar on Friday night with my parents - completely impromptu. It was the first time in months I actually watched an Indian movie for more than 10 seconds, and probably the first time in a year that I watched it in a theatre, my last one being Water. [Of course, Water is in a completely different class from this, being an independent film by Deepa Mehta, the director of Fire, the famous Indian lesbian film.] Usually I can't stand most Indian movies - a subject which I'll expound on another day.

Jodhaa Akbar is a historical drama, about the rule of Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar, generally hailed as the greatest emperor of the Mughal dynasty [the Muslim Mughals invaded and ruled a substantial part of North India centuries ago]. Akbar is played by the handsome hunky oh-so-hot Hrithik Roshan, and Jodhaa by drop-dead gorgeous world-reknowned-beauty Aishwarya Rai - my very bisexual admission is that I wouldn't know who to sleep with, if given a choice. Of course you know the star factor is the major selling point of this otherwise-pedestrian film.

Akbar, in his rise to power, married a Hindu Rajput princess as part of a political alliance. Of course, this doesn't go well with either side, especially not the devoutly Hindu bride, who insists on keeping her traditions and religion, and not being forced to convert. Majority of the movie is taken up by the subsequently blooming romance between them [ironically, AFTER they are married], and the political intrigue by the people plotting his downfall. When they finally consummated the relationship, it was in typical Bollywood fashion with longing looks, chaste kisses and generally-unrealistic-but-have-to-cater-to-a-family-audience kinda way. I had much rather it fade to black than watch chaste sex scenes.

The movie is so incredibly draggy I felt like I was in a time-warp of some sorts. They would spend 10 seconds on each expression, and take 5 minutes to say what could be said in 20 seconds. In true Bollywood style, the sets are opulent and elaborate, and I am pretty sure the cost of each outfit that Aishwarya wears could feed a family of four for a month. Me and my sister couldn't stop cracking up at even the most serious of moments, because the film took itself waaaaay too seriously, and I couldn't help making my snide comments. I seriously wish I could do a commentary through screencaps of the movie, because there was so much to make fun of. [Like, holy crap, was she wearing a mirror for a ring?]

Okay, I like the way they handled the inter-religious issue in the movie. It was inspiring, to say the least, because the message was about tolerance and acceptance, and for people in inter-religious relationships [which is tough, I know] that you need to respect the other person's beliefs. And yes, the movie is fairly accurate in saying that Akbar was one of the most tolerant emperors, and allowed his subjects to worship whoever they wanted, and did things like abolishing the Pilgrim tax for non-Muslims.

That said, I would have more respect for the historical accuracy of the film if they admitted Jodhaa was only Akbar's second wife, and he possibly had many more, and tried not to construct this contrived romance between them. Emperors don't have time to fall in love with one of their wives, they are more busy conquering and ruling.

If anyone is interested, it is showing in Shaw Towers now. Don't worry, there are subtitles - even I needed them, because the Hindi used in the film is very formal, very archaic and damn near impossible to understand.

"The much-awaited movie, Jodhaa Akbar, to me, was all right. As I anticipated, the movie brought in huge amounts of moola. Heck, even my teacher's assistant had watched it.

The film was elegantly crafted, with plenty of detail. The sets, backdrops, and environments made the film rather realistic looking. Because of the rather immense budget, it seems as if every darned jewel must have been worth thousands of rupees. They haven’t even shown a trace of frugality.

Even if it was great, it wasn't perfect. In some parts, the dialog was weak and didn't provide the significance it intended. For example, Akbar commands his soldiers to throw a traitor of the building. But, after throwing him off once and realizing, he says,"Tho phir uppar uthaou oar phir phirsay phaeko!" I wasn’t sure if Mr.Gowariker was intending for it to be funny but in the theater I could hear a few whistles.

The costumes were mind-blowing. It seems, in those times people used to wear more cosmetics and jewelry instead of clothing. Costume design was perhaps one of the strongest points of the film

Hritik Roshan as Emperor Muhammad Akbar did his bit. The large muscles and strong dialogue made him fit for the role. He much resembled the King, who cares for his kingdom, always goes out of the way for their development.

Ash was glorious as always, well, Aishwarya Rai-ish. She did her job very well playing Jodhabai, the brave Mallika-a-Hindustan. In my opinion, no other fragile Bollywood actor could have handled the role as well as her.

The music is very addicting, and some songs you feel like playing over and over again. The lyrics are interesting enough and music is awesome. All dance sequences are very unique.

Finally, If you are bored and have nothing to do for 4 hours, then you should watch this movie."

The movie made it look like it was his only wife, sort of sidestepped the whole harem thing to make it so romantic. Aishwarya Rai ("
the most beautiful woman in the world") plays the wife.

The movie was banned in some places because of the way it shows Muslims and Hindus living together happily as man and wife. I guess religious tolerance offends some people.

Four hours long - and in Hindi with no subtitles - but didnt seem hard at all, even though we went at 11pm. Amazing batle scenes and a few stunning but restrained musical numners. A. R. Rahmaan who is a genius in my eyes, does the music. I never knew Bollywood movies went in for acting til now.

Not only each celluloid frame of this film directed by Academy Award nominated director Ashutosh Gowariker, is soaked thoroughly with opulence but it has also broken box office records grossing 120 cores in 31 days world wide, out of which 90 cores is from India and 30 cores is from the overseas box office.Mr. Siddharth Roy Kapur, Director, UTV Motion Pictures said " JODHAA AKBAR is an epic not merely by virtue of the timeless story it tells, but also because of the tremendous tribulations its creation entailed. But the response JODHAA AKBAR has received not only in India but world wide by both critics and viewers is worth all the hard work."

The films that have a history are those that entail an epic creation, but JODHAA AKBAR which has released across 25 countries in 1500 screens worldwide and dubbed in Tamil, Telegu, Dutch and Arabic, seems to be the one making a history on its own.

JODHAA AKBAR is standing a monumental testament to Oscar nominated film director Ashutosh Gowariker's vision and commitment. To compliment Ashutosh Gowariker's efforts are power packed performances by Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Finally I have some time to pen my thoughts about this movie. :)

Prologue

After hearing too many people going gaga about movie Jodhaa-Akbar, I decided to share my succinct views on Ashutosh Gowarikar's this deeply 'researched' magnum opus. I promise, I will not get into the controversy of Jodhaa being daughter-in-law or wife. Neither do I care if Jodhaa existed or not. My views are strictly in public interest for the like-minded. :P

The movie is a visual delight with some great music. I bet you have heard that before. Well, now you can safely stick to MTV for the songs. As for love story, I will give you some not-to-miss glimpses in case you missed those glorious 3 and half hours of movie. :)

Love story?

To begin with, no movie can do justice to eternal love story of Jodhaa and Akbar. Theirs is unquestionably 'THE love story'. If history is any proof, Akbar loved falling in love with Jodhaa so much that he married 33 more Rajput princesses. That's what I call reservoir of love. Also, he magnanimously allowed all his Rajput wives to practice their religion. Our movie will enlighten you why. Why else? Our Rajputani Jodha had bravely put few conditions before marriage. Never mind the embarrassing yet the mellifluous sound of bhajans that Shehanshaji heard when addressing judicial matters in his court. Mullahs certainly raised some eyebrows.

So how does Jodhaa-Akbar love grow? Aishwarya aka Jodha takes her Miss World-ly charms to shahi kitchen to prepare an elaborate Rajasthani food. Princess she maybe, but she knows that a way to man's heart is through his stomach. :) Akbar's vamp governess, Mahamanga (inspired by Ekta Kapoor's saas) forces her (an ex-Miss World!) to taste the food just as an ordinary cook to ensure king is not being poisoned. Which Ash does prettily, managing to shout a warning plea to her Shehanshaji that one of the dishes had less salt. :) There you see, also goes first dose of humor in the movie.

There are also a series of political subplots around this love story. And director ensures that we know they are strictly sub plots. The main plot is Ash lustily looking on when her Shehanshaji flexes his bulging muscles. A clinching moment in the love story arrives when the ex-Miss World, dressed-like daku hasina in white, has a sword fight with her Shehanshaji in ekant. (You are mistaken if you think Shuzamal bhaiya taught Jodhaa how to fight with a sword. She learnt it long ago in The Last Legion, if you remember that forgettable Hollywood flick. )

Shehanshaji and Jodha

And Shehanshaji, not only he tames wild elephants, he is good at punishing traitors. He once orders a traiter to be thrown from the roof, but unfortunately for him, traitor does not die. Shehanshaji promptly says, "Bring him up and throw him down again till he dies!" and other times, Shehanshaji does Bajrasan on the court throne. :) Pardon me for the little fun! :P But Shehanshaji aka Hrithik was good even if nostrils flared a little. :P and Jodha was as good as a wife in Devadas or Guru. Too much wifely experience our bahu has.

Visual Delight

Remember we said that movie is a visual delight. There are scenes in the movie that could be straight from a jewelery advertisement. Tanishq advertisements anyway do not let you forget that if you watch television. :) The clothes that Jodha wore could have come straight from lakhme fashion shows if they were held in that era. ;) Sets are grand in the movie. Its hard for you to miss when princess Jodhaa is shown around Shehanshaji's palace. I loved clothes and sets, honestly.

Grouse

Only I wish Ashutosh Gowarikar had a good story to narrate. He had a great story in both Lagaan and Swadesh. Without a concrete story, the movie was a drag at various places. It could have been another mythological saga slowing dragging over television. Though out of context, but I must write this here that his Swadesh story was also from his serials. (I am assuming it was his serial.) Longtime back when cable TV had just arrived in India, a serial called Yul love stories used to be telecast on ZEE TV. Mohan Bhargav and Geeta's love story was one of them. So when I saw Swadesh, I knew where story came from. I don't know why this bit of info never popped up in media.

Back to Jodha-Akbar, it remains a boy-meets-girl story in a grand royal setting. You can narrate the story in two lines, all that is there to see is the director's grandeur.

Epilogue

Final word of advice: Watch this movie on DVD. Watch this movie as a tele series with 20 minutes episodes. That way, you can safely watch 20 episodes of grandeur. Tak liya! :P

Synopsis :
Ashutosh Gowarikers Jodhaa Akbar is the story of the greatest Mughal emperor that ruled Hindustan (now India), Jalaluddin Mohammad Akbar, and a fiery young Rajput princess, Jodhaa. Set in the sixteenth century, this epic romance begins as a marriage of alliance between two cultures and religions, for political gain, with the Hindu King Bharmal of Amer giving his daughters hand to a Muslim Emperor, Akbar. When Akbar accepts the marriage proposal, little does he know that in his efforts to strengthen his relations with the Hindu Rajputs, he would in turn be embarking on a new journey - the journey of true love. From the battlefield where the young Jalaluddin was crowned, through the conquests that won him the title of Akbar the Great (Akbar in Arabic means great), to winning the love of the beautiful Jodhaa, Jodhaa Akbar traces the impressive graph of the mighty emperor and his romance with a defiant princess. With Hrithik Roshan as Akbar and Aishwarya Rai as Jodhaa, the film is produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Ashutosh Gowariker.

In Lamhon ke daaman mein
Pakiza se riste hain
Koi kalma mohabat ka
Dohrate farishte hain

Khamosh si hai zameeen hairaan sa falak hai
Ek noor hi noor sa abb aasmaan talak hai
Nagmein hi nagmein hai jagti soti fizaon mein
Husn hai sari adaon mein
Ishq hai jaise hawaon mein

Kaise yeh ishq hai
Kaisa yeh khwaab hai
Kaise jazbaat ka Umda sailab hai

Kaise yeh ishq hai
Kaisa yeh khwaab hai
Kaise jazbaat ka Umda sailab hai

Din badle raatein badli
Jeene ke andaaz hi badle hain

In lamhon ke daaman mein
Pakiza se riste hain
Koi kalma mohabat ka
Dohrate farishte hain

Samay ne yeh kya kiya
Badal di hai kaya
Tumhein mene paa liye
Mujhe tumne paya

Mile dekho aise hai hum
ke do sur ho jaise madham
koi jyada na koi kaam
Kise aag mein Ke prem aag mein
Jalte dono hi the tan bhi maan bhi
Maan bhi hai tan bhi

Mere khwaabon ke is Gulistaan mein
Tumse hi tum bahar chai hai
Phoolon mein rang nahi the lekin
Dil mein khusboon tumhi se aai hai

Kyon hai yeh arzoo
Kyon hai yeh zustzu
Kyon dil bechain hai
Kyon dil betaab hai

Din badle raatein badli baatien badli

With their ethnically indeterminate looks and impeccable English, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan could be India's first international movie stars, writes Anupama Chopra in The New York Times:

[Photo: Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Bachchan in Jodhaa Akbar]

Last October Aishwarya Bachchan grappled with a tough choice. The Bollywood star could either stay in Los Angeles to pursue a lead role in Will Smith's new film, "Seven Pounds," or she could return home to Mumbai to celebrate Karva Chauth, a daylong ceremonial fast that some married Hindu women observe as a prayer for their husband's health and long life. (The observance is a new one for Ms. Bachchan; in April she married Abhishek Bachchan, an actor and the son of the Indian film star Amitabh Bachchan, a union that prompted Time magazine to describe the three as "Bollywood's Father, Son and Holy Babe.")

Ultimately Ms. Bachchan chose to return to Mumbai and starve with a smile. National television channels covered her first Karva Chauth as headline news. Two months later she shrugged off her loss in an interview. "You do what you have to do," she said. "Feeling torn and thereby unhappy, confused or guilty is not something I want to feel. So you make your choices and go with it. You get some and some you don't."

Original song: Jashn-E-Baharaa - movie: Jodhaa Akbar

video: yummys21

.

The movie Jodhaa Akbar, an Asutosh Gowariker extravaganza is set in the sixteenth century - below Shabd and Mahi are going through a near similar phase in the twenty first century. Things have not changed much except that the costumes have got a bit lighter and dare I say .. a little cheaper. Afer all they are ordinary human mortals .. like you and me .. no royal blood in their veins.

Shabd is looking into Mahi's eyes .. she smiles at him and he senses she wants him to get closer. They move towards each other, the urge to be with the other getting stronger and stronger. She smiles at him again. He reaches out to her with an open palm of his hand, a clear sign he wants her close. She accepts his invitation and puts her hand into his palm. They both look into each other's eyes. They hear the angle singing. Cupid is in the air playing mischief with their hearts.

ek din zindagii itnii hogii hasiin
jhuumega aasmaan gaye gi yeh zamiin
mein ne socha na tha

Suddenly there is a tap on Shabd's shoulder. He turn around to see who it is. It is his friend. Shabd wakes up from the day dream. He is in a a night club dreaming about his princess Mahi when the tap on the shoulder brings him back to earth. Mahi is there waiting to be asked for a dance but Shabd is not jumping at the opportunity. Phool se khushboo khafa khafa hain gulshan mein. Tearful Mahi feels rejected. She feels unwanted and troubled Shabd seems not interested in her. What could be wrong she wonders. Mahi's friend Bindi is happily dancing away with her boyfriend Aditya. Bindi notices Mahi is depressed and feeling down so she almost forces Mahi onto Shabd. Bindi brings the jodi together and makes them dance together.

Sure Shabd feels very elated and happy to dance with Mahi. So why did he not ask her for a dance in the first place? Yes exactly ... this is bugging Mahi but for now she is happy to dance. Mahi is going to ponder on this question for a long time after they have left the club. Leave it for another day she tells herself. She did have a row with Shabd a few days back - seems like he is still holding it against her. There had been an argument between Mahi and one of Shabd's sister Priya. Mahi had come to his home for a lunch and all the girls were in the kitchen preparing the food. Priya had criticised the way Mahi rolled the chapaties - she rolled them too thin as that is how they made them at her home. Priya said if you wish to marry my brother one day you had better improve on the thickness as he was quite fond of his chapaties.

Mahi has put on earrings like anchors of cruise liner QE2 - heavy enough to make any girl go weak at the knees. Poor thing, she cries her eyes out but Shabd is adamant that she must wear them . He went to extreme lengths during his IT contract in California to get those earrings especially for her. Little does he know that they were made in India. Huh ... men. No clues about shopping. Painful though it is Mahi bears the pain of the earrings and walks away when Shabd confronts her.

She would rather have him and peace instead of loosing him and their relationship. Mahi is a relaxed easy going person, she makes other people happy at her own expense and this one is no exception. Besides he may be her husband one day and she would do almost anything to make him happy - as long as it was morally clean and legal. Ah well as long as she wins over her prince charming Shabd she will put up the pain. Wait till she gets married to him. Pleasant surprise await them both. Hmmm yes. However it seems Shabd is doing the chasing here ...... just like Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar. Men usually give in to their lovers ... even the greatest emperor of massive Hindustan - the malika made him wait!

Then there is that glass wall in the bedroom. Sheeshe ki ek deewar hai jaise darmiyaan. Shabd's car broke down while they were enroute to a neighbouring city. The couple were forced to stay at a road side hotel. Mahi was not happy to be in the same room with Shabd but the lack of funds meant they could only afford to hire a double room. She had never been in the company of men and did not wish to. He is holding onto her dupatta but falls asleep. Mahi slides the dupatta out of his hand and races downstairs to the main reception area.

It is Mahi's birthday and a few friends and close relatives have been invited at a restaurant. The final crunch comes at the cake cutting ceremony. Mahi cuts a portion of her birthday cake, Shabd offers the first portion to her. She is too embarrased in front of the guest for some reason and she refuses to accept Shabd's offer. This gesture is off putting to Shabd but he does not say anything at the time. She is either too naive or she is too scared to upset the elders in the family who are die hard traditionalists stuck in the past formalities. Shabd suspects it is the latter and he understands her fears.

She being a true loyal bahu type insists the first portion should be reserved for her true love but fails to offer it to his mouth. She just hands it to him. She is scared he might choke on the first piece and the society will make a mince meat out of her ... not to mention the wrath of his mother and twin evil sisters standing right behind her ready to pounce on her ... such a shame .. she wants to yet she does not want to. Ahhhhh ..... please help me God .... so annoying! Finally he accepts the cake from her hand and has a bite. He in return offers a portion to her but she refuses ... she thinks his Dad should be the next recipient ... or more like his mother! Mahi forgets that even saas bhi ek din bahu thi.

The party is over and Shabd is looking back to time he met Mahi. The good times they had running on the sandy beach, eating out and having fun. He also recalls how she had nursed him through illness when they first met at the college residence away from home. All in all he thinks she is the best thing that has happened to him. It would be nice to marry her one day and live as a jodi forever. He looks to the good times ahead and for a while is lost in the romantic clouds and dil ki bateein. Suddenly the music starts playing in his heart and he can feel Tu Hi Re.

Tu Hi Re, Tu Hi Re Tere Bina Mai Kaise Jiyuu
Aajaa Re, Aajaa Re, Yuu Hi Ta.Dapaa Naa Tuu Mujhako
Jaan Re, Jaan Re, In Saaso Me Bas Jaa Tu
Chaand Re, Chaand Re, Aajaa Dil Kii Zamiin Pe Tu

Now im probably quite late in posting about this Bollywood film since it was released a few weeks ago, but it really does deserve a mention.

Jodhaa-Akbar stars the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Bollywood hunk Hrithik Roshan. The film is set in the 16th century and tells the story of a marriage of alliance between the great Mughal Emperor (Akbar) and a Rajput Princess (Jodhaa) and their journey. The journey itself involves a few political battles as well as Akbar's battle to win the trust and love of Jodhaa.

The film took around 2 and a half years to make and is certainly a classic. From the performances, to the action, to the lavish sets, everything about this film works and makes it a worthwhile watch. Hrithik and Aishwarya share great onscreen chemistry, and send shivers down your spine (in a good way) as their romance begins its journey with the characters laying eyes on each other, even if it is through a veil! Both the stars play their respective roles very well, and they really do look the part with the gorgeous traditional outfits and beautiful jewellery (do i see a trend for brides here).

The music of the film takes into account the settings and the Mughal period, which also helps to move the love story along at times. But in itself, the album is a pleasure to listen to, and is certainly not one to be missed since its by A.R Rahman. I'd have to say, at the moment my most favourite track would have to be 'Jashn-e-Bahaara' which first highlights Akbar's love for Jodhaa in the film.

The film itself has been in the news alot, in regards to some Rajputs stating that in reality Akbar's wife was never known as 'Jodhaa'. Please do not let this put you of from watching the film. Ashutosh Gowariker clearly states at the beginning of the film that this is simply one viewpoint on Jodhaa and Akbar's relationship.

Jodhaa-Akbar is truly a magnificent film....Bollywood at it's best!

Jodhaa Akbar is a sixteenth century love story

Original song: Jashn-E-Baharaa - movie: Jodhaa Akbar

Jodhaa Akbar is a sixteenth century love story about an arranged marriage between a Mughal Emperor Akbar and a Hindu Princess Jodhaa for a pre-determined political outcome. He married the Rajput princess in order to strengthen the relationship between the Mughals and the Rajputs. Akbar had numerous wives, Jodhaa was not the only woman in his life. Fortunately for the royal couple the marriage turns into a true love between the great emperor and the beautiful Rajput princess Jodhaa bai.

Historians have disputed the accuracy of the contents of the movie, one notable issue being the marriage of Akbar to Jodhaa bai - in reality this did not happen. The director of the movie has stated that it was not intended to be a true historical story.

The daughter of King Bharmal of Amer, Jodhaa resented being reduced to a mere political pawn in this marriage of alliance, and Akbar's biggest challenge was not merely lie in winning battles, but in winning the love of Jodhaa, a love hidden deep below resentment and extreme prejudice. While he kept fighting battles and winning smaller kingdoms to create a vast empire , she took him on as a challenge and won over him.

However despite a few shortcomings overall it is an enjoyable movie if you just take in the raj-mataaz, the glamour, the costumes, the settings, Hrithik's physical prowess, Ash's quality acting etc. not forgetting the haunting melodies of AR Rahman!

If you are willing to forget the precise historic details and enjoy the movie as a lavish love story then you will not be disappointed.

by Javed Akhtar

Kahne ko jashn-e-bahaaraa hai
ishq yeh dekh ke hairan hai
fool se khushabu khafa khafa hai gulshan mein
chupa hai koi ranj fiza ki chilman mein
Saare sahme nazare hai, soye soye waqt ke dhare hai
or dil mai khoi khoi si baate hai

kehne ko jashn-e-bahaaraa hai ....

Kaise kahe, kya hai sitam, Sochte hai ab yeh hum
koi kaise kahe woh hai ya nahi humare
Karte to hai saath safar, Faansle hai fir bhi magar
jaise milte nahi kisi dariya ke do kinare
paas hai fir bhi paas nahi, hum ko ab yeh raas nahi
Shishe ki ek deewar hai jaise darmiyan
Saare sahme nazare hai, soye soye waqt ke dhare hai
or dil mai khoi khoi si baate hai

kehne ko jashn-e-bahaaraa hai ....

humne jo tha nagma suna, dil mai ye tha ishq chuna
yeh daastan hume waqt ne kaisi sunai
hum jo agar hai gamgeen, woh bhi udhar khush to nahi
mulakato mai hai jaise ghul si gai tanhayi
milke bhi hum milte nahi, khilke bhi gul khilte nahi
aankon mein hai bahaare dil mai fiza
Saare sehme nazare hai, soye soye waqt ke dhare hai
or dil mai khoi khoi si baate hai

Kahne ko jashn-e-bahaaraa hai
ishq yeh dekh ke hairan hai
fool se khushabu khafa khafa hai gulshan mein
chupa hai koi ranj fiza ki chilman mein..
