Those who have experienced the northern lights describe it as magnificent, multi colored lights moving across the sky.  Living in the southern part of the United States, I have never seen the Aurora Borealis.  Every few years, the local weather service will mention the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights from my area.  I always stay up late hoping to witness it myself.  I usually take a blanket outside and make myself comfortable.  Then I sit and wait -- focused on the horizon and hoping for a glimpse of this unimaginable phenomina. 

It would be easy for those of us living this far south to dismiss the notion of magnificent, multicolored lights floating across the sky.  But even though I've never seen it, I believe it is out there, somewhere.  Hebrews 11:1  Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

As this statistic shows, fireworks can be very dangerous, yet they can also be enjoyable.  You will have to decide for yourself whether or not you will risk using fireworks.  Personally, I do not think that fireworks are worth the cost in dollars or the risk of injury.   If you do decide to use fireworks, read these safety tips.  If everyone followed these tips, there would probably be a lot fewer injuries.

• When: Between 5:30 and 7:00 PM on December 8. The Bellingham Holiday Port Festival and Gingerbread House Contest will be going on at the Cruise Terminal during this time, so the two events compliment each other.

• What: A regatta of yachts decked out with Christmas lights. Well worth seeing to set the old Christmas spirit simmering.
