The balance and communication provider of the knowledge area, and to talk about them is to talk abou

The balance and communication provider of the knowledge area, and to talk about them is to talk about harmony. In their respective areas, mathematics, linguistic, music provides a sense of continuation, balance, and communication.

Mathematics is the logical side, and in its own way, a form of language. Language of scientists and engineers. The language of logic. One that exists to explain and tabularise the logical side of the universe we live in.

Music is the direct opposite of Mathematics, and yet highly similar. In its own way, it is also a form of language. Language for artists and musicians. A language that hardly can be written down, and has to be heard to be fully appreciated. It is more in tune with emotions and spiritual nature of the universe we live in.

Linguistic is the one that sits in the middle. Mathematics and Music being linked to some form of languages, Linguistics are the language of everyone. From it, people and societies rise and communicate with each other. More often than note, it is the language barrier that brought strangers together under a unified harmony.

I am keeping this post as short it is, just because it is the easiest to be understood as compared to the others. Simple and effective.

Now, the final part of the introduction to Knowledge trilogy. And this part is the most important of

Now, the final part of the introduction to Knowledge trilogy. And this part is the most important of all, for all of the components inside it provide a natural and unnatural balance to the other Knowledge areas. It provides stability, neutrality, and a holding ground for any dispute and incoherence encountered within the Left-hand Knowledge and the Right-hand Knowledge.

To understand it, elements from both Left-hand Knowledge and Right-hand Knowledge are recquired. It contains elements of physical and spiritual as well, as recquired to keep Left and Right balanced.

In group, they are selectively shortened as R.H.C.L, defined as below:

Religion - A set of practices, centered upon specific claims about reality, metaphysics, and life forms, codified as rituals.

History - The study of the past, encompassing written and verbal record, and also scientific and metaphysical discoveries about the past.

Culture - Patterns of human activity and symbolic structures that give such activities importance.

Linguistic - The study and practice of language, encompassing language structure, meaning, morphology, syntax, phonetics, and phonology.

If you look carefully - and of course, I will explain in more detail in various future posts as we go along - that all the elements of R.H.C.L have properties both from the respective Left-hand Knowledge and Right-hand Knowledge. There are certain similarities between the flows.

How does R.H.C.L relate to each other?

Religion is the attainment of Knowledge.

History is the outcome of Religion and Culture.

Culture is the blending of Religion and History.

Linguistic relates them all in a harmonic method.

As I have mentioned before, many of the definitions of these components differ greatly from what is normally accepted by society. They are defined as I define them. Throughout future posts, I will talk about specific subjects and how they inter-relate with one another.

Your opinions and mine would differ greatly on the topics I would discuss. But that is the whole point. Diversity of opinions can be a great thing, if used positively. And that is why I am putting my life's work on the Net now - infinite diversity in infinite combinations.

In the next episode, I will explain the horizontal comparison of the different Knowledge areas. For example, how does Religion, Science, and Occult relate to each other. How about Linguistic, Mathematics, and Music blend with each other?

Until then, I hope you have enjoyed these three posts. Let us talk about something lighter in the next post :).

Oiii… aku jadi Lo buat yg kedua kalinya nih.

Oiii… aku jadi Lo buat yg kedua kalinya nih. So it would be fun and scary!

D-Day 1 <July 31 08>
Wah ini hari pertama dpt job udah disuruh buat nganter surat dari STP (yg tempatnya di ujung Bali ntu) ampe Kapolda Bali, total 8 surat dan kita capek bukan main. Aku ngater undangan sana Nina, andn she's fun. Got me fun.
Nah, walo udah istirahat I jam doang, jam stengah 3 udah balik lagi ke hotel Sanur Paradise Plaza, n then aku langsung ngangkut barang-barang yang berupa brosur and watching my friends on job at registration counter sedang "berasik-asikan" dengan tamu2 dari asia n luar asia. Haha. But everything done well. Aku mesen Twister Kombo, yg harganya 18-ribuan blon tax, yg ternyata rasanya mirip sama D’creeps yg sering aku makan. Nothing special. Cuma daging ayamnya aja yang ajib.
Well, one thing arounding my mind, its about tomorrow! Gosh! I hope everything is fun. Takutnya kalo aku jadi moderator, gila aja di depan puluhan dosen bahasa inggris dengan bahasa inggris yg masih kagok, bisa mati berdiri nih! But semoga semua berjalan sukses!

Day 1 <August 1 08>
Fuihhh… ternyata jadi LO itu asik juga. Kita Cuma jaga pintu doang. Hehe…. Becanda! 1st time being Lo, very tired. Capek. Coba aja ga pake lift, uh… udah mati tepar dah (lebai boz). Everything is good. The meal totally nice. The dinner is full. Meski harus bangun pagi2. But it was fun!

Day 2 <August 2 08>

Hari ini buat Lo-lo program (termasuk aku) semuanya fun. Tapi ternyata bagi LO yg ada di counter, this was terrible day! Why so? “Ouh.. its crazy, are you joking? are you drunk?" tmenku langsung diem and she was getting shock! How terrible this conference! Till us (LO) were insulted like a stupid one.
Yah… today is a bad day. Ternyata ga ada dinner di hotel lagi. So seperti biasa kita makan KFC lagi. Yup, yang penting gratis n kenyang!

Day – 3 <August 3 08>
Kita dapet gaji! Hoho. Untuk 3 hari menjadi seorang LO kita dapet 600 ribu perak. Lumayan. Lumayan banyak bagiku yg cuma diem di ruangan ber-ac plus dapet pengalaman seru.
Nah yang seru pas closing ceremony-nya aku ketemu sama Jeremy Harmer n David Nunan, katanya mereka orang yg cukup ngetop di bidang linguistic. Katanya pengarang buku discourse analysis yg pernah aku pelajarin. Hehehe. Gapapa cuman dapet foto sekilas. Habisnya banyak partisipan yang mau foto sama dia sih. Wah… hari ini ditutup dengan pengalaman seru. 3 hari untuk selamanya. Film kale!

On a recent trip to Germany, I was walking around the beautiful city of Hamburg, when I happened upo

On a recent trip to Germany, I was walking around the beautiful city of Hamburg, when I happened upon the local Scientology church. I was approached by a friendly, English-speaking guy who invited me in to the building for a "chat". Since I had seen most of the city already, and had a few hours to spare, I went in.

[caption id="" align="alignleft" width="277" caption="Hamburg Church Of Scientology"][/caption]

After a few questions about my religious beliefs etc (I stayed as neutral as possible), I was ushered downstairs into a impressive private cinema, which I had all to myself. There I watched two Scientology induction films. The first was about a young American football player who, after suffering an (evidently psychosomatic) back injury, is given an array of useless treatments by nasty doctors and a hilarious, scenery-chewing evil psychiatrist. Eventually, when he hits rock bottom, he discovers "Dianetics" by L. Ron Hubbard, and promptly makes a miraculous recovery. He struts out of the hospital, past the seething doctors and psychiatrist. Scientology saves the day.

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="224" caption="Dianetics"][/caption]

The second film was an induction for Scientology newbies regarding the organisation's structure. The production values were high, but featured that unique brand of sloppy editing in corporate presentations that has people either waiting far too long to do something, or doing it twice. It concluded with the blow-dried presenter speaking directly to the viewer, saying something like:

"You could walk out that door right now and never think of Scientology again. It would be incredibly stupid of you, but you could do it".... "It's your choice: An eternity of freezing agony, or total bliss."

I was astonished by the nerve of these statements. This was Book of Revelations stuff. However, I maintained calm as I left the cinema and spoke further with my designated acolyte / interviewer. Funnily enough, the next group to go the cinema were a bunch of teenagers, obviously there for shits and giggles, who had to be kicked out, laughing their heads off. As my interviewer sat back down with me after performing this duty, he said, in English, "Jesus Christ!!". I remember thinking, "Shouldn't that be 'L. Ron'?"

The interview continued, and though I was freaked out by what I had just seen, I still wanted to be "audited". For those of you who don't know, this is purportedly a "personality test" in which the Church detects which parts of your being are flawed and can be improved by induction proper.

Before being allowed to do this, however, I had to watch another film, this time an introduction to the auditing process. I don't think that this film is usually shown to people who want to participate. The reason I say this is simply because the concepts outlined in it were absolutely bizarre and certainly off-putting to any reasonable individual. Personally, I was most confused by the video's theory that unconsciousness or intense emotion were the states in which people were most likely to absorb information.

[caption id="" align="alignleft" width="200" caption="Reactive Mind"][/caption]

For example, if someone was involved in a car crash, and was unconscious in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, there should be no negative pronouncements - and preferably, no speech in general - by anyone else in the ambulance. The injured party, though unconscious, is acutely aware of their surroundings, and any information relayed here could affect them negatively for life. The same goes for anyone who has suffered a lesser injury, like a fall off a bike (and not necessarily been knocked unconscious). Everyone around must stay quiet.

What knocked me out of my seat altogether, however, was the scene in which a woman giving birth was surrounded by doctors who held fingers to their lips and said "Shhhhh!" - so as not to unintentionally place negative thoughts in the baby's mind which would generate future neuroses. It seemed moot to point out that the infant brain's as-yet undeveloped linguistic centre would be unable to recognise any structured language ( I wondered if I'd ever encountered anything else that supported the Scientologists' bizarre pre-lingual theory, and I realised that I had: the film "Look Who's Talking".... starring über-ologists John Travolta and Kirstie Alley...! ).

I was informed that I would have to return the following day to have my audit performed. I thought, well, I've come this far. So return I did. I was introduced to an older lady with an hilarious name who would be my auditor. We took a lift to one of the building's upper levels, stepped into a sterile office, and began. She decided, for reasons unknown to me, that I wouldn't need to be hooked up to the infamous E-Meter machine, and we started into it.

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="237" caption="E-Meter"][/caption]

The audit, such as it was, consisted of a huge range of questions, each of which had to be answered three times, and each of which had a particular emotion or tactile sensation attached to it. For example, I would be asked, "Can you think of a time when you felt angry?", and the prescribed sensation would be "Light or Heavy". So, you answered the question, explaining the memory in detail, and then had to say whether the scene "felt" light or heavy. Then, she would ask, "When was another time you felt angry?", and finally, "When was the first time you felt angry", each one a full scene description with the Light / Heavy parameters.

And yes, it was every bit as boring as it sounds. At the beginning, I sincerely tried to give honest answers, wanting to actually see proper results of this "personality test". But after about 45 minutes of these triple - barrel questions, with seemingly non-sequitur addenda to every single one (Was the memory light, heavy, black, red, big, small, fast, slow etc), I found myself making up stories just to answer the questions as quickly as possible.

But even at that, I couldn't seem to make any headway. At around the 1& 1/2 hour mark, I asked how much longer the session was going to take. At this, my auditor became quite concerned, saying that being in a hurry was not a psychic state conducive to accurate results. It seemed that the audit was going to take as long as it had to. I relented and continued. But after 2 hours I couldn't take any more. I told her that I had another engagement (which she wanted to know all about) and simply had to leave.

I promised that I would return the following day (I did not return). And to be honest, the only reason I think they let me leave without a big scene was because I had expressed genuine interest in the religion, and seemed to have been fascinated by the audit. Still, I left the building and felt relieved.

[caption id="" align="alignleft" width="179" caption="Time Magazine Scientology"][/caption]

Thinking back on the audit, I noticed at least one huge fallacy in their beliefs. These are people who famously abhor psychiatry and psychotherapy as a means of personal growth, disregarding utterly the huge medical advances accomplished in these fields. And yet, in the audit itself, they used methods that pertain almost directly to psychotherapy.

For example, the whole idea of getting someone to recall vividly a memory, and it's associated sensations, is a very powerful psychotherapeutic technique. NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming), one of newest branches of psychotherapy, uses it extensively, and is based on the idea of bringing the client into different "states". The goal is to train people to access them at will, thereby allowing them to bypass anxious or depressive states.

The Scientology audit uses these exact same principles, but instead of moving towards a pure goal of personal development, the intent here is to get the client to associate the powerful experience of re-living memories to the auditor, and to the religion. This generates the false belief that the auditor has somehow accessed your deepest personal issues, the same issues that the religion can help fix (for a fee). The fact is that the auditor has done nothing more then encourage a self-induced semi-hypnotic state. They are covertly using the very same psychotherapeutic principles that the religion fervently claims to have debunked.

Indeed, the Scientologists' dismissal of psychotherapy as a means of self-development is actually a typical cult tactic - the isolation of the individual. Just as Charles Manson kept orphans in a shack in Death Valley and Jim Jones took his subjects out of the US and into Guyana, Scientology must keep people isolated from, and resentful of, outside influences. They breed the idea that noone else can help you but "us", that your mind and soul will be lost without "us". (In fact, in researching this article, I learned that Charles Manson himself actually read and taught principles of Scientology).

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="252" caption="David Miscavige"][/caption]

So yes, the whole auditing experience was bizarre, and quite unsettling. But I think what is so frightening about Scientology, to me at least, is not strictly the cultish nature of the religion, but the slick way that it's presented. They sell this thing like it's the new must-have product. And they do so using the worst type of corporate techniques; cheesy 3D graphics, suited guys, Stepford girls, and horrible, horrible editing, animation, posters, voiceovers etc. This is a business, pure and simple. There is not an ounce of the sincerity, tact or true compassion that people actually need when they find themselves in an existential crisis and searching for spiritual guidance.

Scientology is the ultimate form of bully-boy advertising:

"Buy this product...or your soul will perish!"

f

f

Note: There is a ton of information available on the Internet about how Scientology is a highly dangerous organization, and how they exert massive pressure on anyone who speaks out against them, especially people who have left the religion. Here's a selection of my favourite videos on the subject:

f

"The Bridge" is an great low-budget movie that is highly critical of Scientology. Directed by the then 18-year-old Brett Hanover, the Church of Scientology tried to bury it. It's fascinating in particular for it's striking use of official Scientology videos within the narrative. Here's the full movie on Google Video:

[googlevideo=http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-786346783953393809&ei=jJKZSJ2DJoyqiwL8v73MDw&q=scientology+bridge]

f

In 2007, an episode of the BBC's documentary series Panorama focused on the reality of the Church of Scientology. The investigator, John Sweeney was harassed at every turn as he tried to speak to interviewees who had left the church, and witnessed first-hand the brutal character assassination in which the church regularly engages. The documentary concludes with the now-infamous scene in which Sweeney loses his temper with the Church Rep who has been intimidating him.

[googlevideo=http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7922220836261464038&ei=hpSZSIKVAoeAjgLblo3RDw&q=scientology+bbc]

f

Jason Beghe, an accomplished actor, spent years dedicating his life to Scientology and rose to the higher levels of the religion's hierarchy before becoming disillusioned and quitting it. In this interview, he talks about how he came to the realisation that the teachings were "retarded" and that he had invested years of his life in something "empty". An intelligent and articulate man, Beghe's discussion of Scientology from the inside is fascinating.

[googlevideo=http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2919780359261818827&ei=FZeZSJu1JI-WigLZpozADw&q=jason+scientology]

f

And of course, how could I leave out the overview of the religion's mythos as portrayed by the always-brilliant South Park?

As I may have mentioned, in my short time here on earth, I’ve picked up two degrees in English

As I may have mentioned, in my short time here on earth, I've picked up two degrees in English (a B.A. and an M.A) in English at two different (liberal) institutions of learning. I find no problem with a left-leaning university; in fact, I hope that an institution would have a cohesive world view that patterns its goals, plans, and actions.

I bring those things up because I remember sitting through linguistics classes and literary theory classes where we discussed the politics of language. We talked about who could say when, and when, and where. Essentially, we discussed the theory because the PC police (though that's not how my professors or fellow class mates would have seen things).

My fellow educated friends who take those theories seriously probably would have a different take on the article I've pasted below. I'm sure this article would be the onus for some fascinating application of linguistic or literary theory about language, race, and the politics of power; however, my boorish, dyed in the wool, conservative brain could only think: "Open mouth, insert foot." (Here's a more articulate, conservative analysis of this faux paux.)

I still can stop laughing. How is this man taken seriously anymore?

Fox: Jackson used N-word in crude off-air remarks
By SOPHIA TAREEN – 16 hours ago

CHICAGO (AP) — For decades the Rev. Jesse Jackson has rallied against the use of the N-word — an ethnic slur he has repeatedly told the American public is hateful and degrading. But Fox News confirmed to The Associated Press Wednesday that the longtime civil rights activist used the term in what Jackson thought was a private conversation during a break from a TV interview.

Jackson has already come under fire this month for crude off-air comments he made against presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama that were recorded during a taping of a "Fox & Friends" news show.

In additional comments from that same conversation, first reported by TVNewser, Jackson is reported to have said Obama was "talking down to black people ... telling 'N-words' how to behave." Fox declined to release the full transcript of the July 6 show and did not air the comments.

Jackson — who was traveling in Spain to attend an interfaith conference on Wednesday — apologized in a statement for "hurtful words" but didn't offer specifics.

"I am deeply saddened and distressed by the pain and sorrow that I have caused as a result of my hurtful words. I apologize again to Senator Barrack Obama, Michelle Obama, their children as well as to the American public," Jackson said in a written statement. "There really is no justification for my comments and I hope that the Obama family and the American public will forgive me. I also pray that we, as a nation, can move on to address the real issues that affect the American people."

A spokeswoman for Jackson's civil rights organization, Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, said she could not confirm that Jackson used the slur.

On an entirely different note, I find Fox's with holding of the "n-word" part of the tape interesting. Many folks on the left argue that Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, and all conservative talk radio are all on the pay-roll of the Republican Party. Those entities, they may argue, are merely a front for "right-wing" or Republican propaganda. That Fox News is with holding the "n-word" part of this tape seems to undermine those claims on the left. Why wouldn't the front for the Republican Party release the tape that would more than likely destroy Rev. Jesse Jackson, a bur under the saddle of right-wing folks?

A more cynical side of me thinks that this is a ratings ploy. We'll all talk about the tape. We'll all want to see the tape. Therefore, we'll all watch Fox News.

I have to tell y

Well well well, last Saturday was the day I enrolled into ICA. The date: 06/21/2008

I have to tell you it took me a while to live up to my dream of being a life coach. For the past 2 years I've been struggling and struggling on the 'idea' of being one. And boy did I go through some major changes in life. Saying it was easy is most definitely an understatement.

Here's a little background for the new-comers out there. In 2006 I heard of a man named Tony Robbins from a magician friend who I was helping out with a website at the time (a career I thought I was meant to do). As we talked about the site he would casually spit out this mans name like a machine gun every 30 minutes. Saying things like, "He's changed my life so much! You have to Google him tonight. Google Him!"

Being 20 I didn't really much think about it as I was still going to The Art Institute here in Las Vegas. Well, a few days passed and so did the weeks. But somehow someway while I was channel surfing I came across an infomercial of Tony Robbins and his all-new Get The Edge Program. I listened and watched entranced by this mans words and passion. At that point I decided to take a look at his programs, his website, and his biography. I soaked it ALL in. Not letting one slip of advice and wisdom pass by. I took notes, upon notes, upon notes. I couldn't get enough.

June 2006 was the first month I went to my first ever personal development seminar. I was with my girlfriend at the time who apparently was the one I thought I'd end up with for the rest of my life. But that story comes at a later time. Anyway, by the end of this seminar I said to myself, "I want to be like him, I want to help people like he does, I want to be a life coach."

That's how this journey started. Why it took me 2 years? Here's the answer: Life

You see over the 2 years, a ton of dramatic losses and inconceivable personal wins kept me from reaching that goal. One set-back was the break-up of my girlfriend for 5 years. At 21 it was a devastating blow to my identity. I didn't want to live. Everything around me felt worthless. I felt worthless. I lost who I was and wanted to be. I would keep saying to myself, "Ron, you've quit everything in life. Why stop now? You won't amount to anything anyway." For an entire year and a half I indulged in destructive habits. Ecstasy, alcohol, and cocaine were my go to buddies. Which forced me towards more depression, more sadness, and even more drug use. I'd like to say now that I was addicted to the emotion more than the drugs. I was addicted to the feeling of not feeling. I loss all control of wanting to be a life coach. I even got other life coaches to coach me, but only to drop out and go back to my regular habits of self-abuse and destruction.

2007 hits. Things seemed like it would be this way forever. It seemed forever. 2007 ends. I cried and took a long hard look at who I've become late one December evening. I filled myself up with so much hurt and pain that night I decided to move out of Vegas and back to Hawaii, where I was born. I spent the last $200 I had on my flight back home. My aunt ended up helping and giving me a place to stay in one of their open rooms. Things still didn't get easy. It still was spiraling downhill. While I was there I couldn't find a single job that would take me. Though I didn't try too hard either. After about a month of confinement I began to crack, I wanted out. I wanted to go home (Vegas). I wanted to make something of myself. I wanted to not feel like I used to in Vegas. So for the rest of my remaining time there, I made it a point to relax. I made it a point to fill myself back up with the love and beauty of life. I remember waking up every morning and walking out on the patio and just watching the ocean and the sun dance together. I felt so blessed to be alive.

When I got back I decided I needed to change who I was. I needed to push forward instead of backwards. So I did. I started looking for a job that would support me, as well as go to ICA. I prayed and prayed to God that I would find a job that I loved to work at. A job that was aligned to my life's values of love, passion, faith, and determination. I started reworking myself by relearning all the teachings and wisdom of my life's experiences, NLP, and the teachings of other self-help superstars. I began to look for a job (something I didn't have for a year) and within a month I landed a position at Borders Books and Music. And 5 months later here I am. This is the only work environment that I've found that has the secret mantra, "it's okay to be me". And that's what I love about it. I enrich other peoples lives. And with the money I'm making there, it's going straight to ICA. I'm proud of who I am now and what I'm growing into. I'm loving life. And am definitely influenced by life.

Influence Life.

This research paper investigates two main points. First, the idiomatic expressions mostly found in the movie of School of Rock; and second, the translation methods employed by the translator in translating idiom. Then, the writer also analyzes the translation method used by the translator in translating the idiomatic expressions.

The research is qualitative in nature. The descriptive method is used to analyze and to process the data.

To answer the research questions, the writer classifies the kinds of idiomatic expressions into four classifications based on Cowie et al (in Kiango, 2003); they were pure idioms, figurative idioms, restricted collocations, and open collocation. Then, the writer also classifies translation method used by the translator based on Newmark (1988); they are word-for-word translation, literal translation, faithful translation, semantic translation, adaptation, free translation, idiomatic translation, and communicative translation.

The findings of the research showed that the idiomatic expressions found in School of Rock movie were 109 items. The idiomatic expressions mostly found in School of Rock movie are pure idioms. While, the translation methods mostly used by the translator in translating those idiomatic expressions are semantic translation in order to make it easier to understand for viewers.

This stunning work, an empowering entryway to the spiritual revival of our times, enables all of us

This stunning work, an empowering entryway to the spiritual revival of our times, enables all of us to claim our connection to the heritage of the traditional Jewish prayer book. It helps rejuvenate Jewish worship in today's world, and makes its power accessible to all.

Framed with beautifully designed Talmud-style pages, commentaries from many of today's most respected Jewish scholars from all movements of Judaism examine Birkhot Hashachar from the perspectives of ancient Rabbis and modern theologians, as well as feminist, halakhic, Talmudic, linguistic, biblical, Chasidic, mystical, and historical perspectives.

This fifth volume in the series examines the complexities of personal and public prayer in Birkhot Hashachar, the blessings and readings surrounding each act of awakening. The Morning Blessings begin the daily service by establishing our right to stand before God in all our imperfect humanity. Vol. 5 helps us to understand how this collection of short prayers and a call to study recognizes each new day: we awaken as individuals but quickly affirm our role in the covenant with God.

Vol. 5--Birkhot Hashachar (Morning Blessings) features the traditional Hebrew text with a new translation that lets people know exactly what the prayers say. Introductions explain what to look for in the prayer service, and how to truly use the commentaries to find meaning in the prayer book. Commentaries from eminent scholars and teachers from all movements of Judaism examine Birkhot Hashachar from the viewpoints of ancient Rabbis and modern theologians, as well as a myriad of other perspectives.

Even those not yet familiar with the prayer book can appreciate the spiritual richness of Birkhot Hashachar. My People's Prayer Book enables all worshipers, of any denomination, to create their own connection to 3,000 years of Jewish experience with the world and with God. See details
