I bought Madden 08 Football today for my Xbox 360.  Jobu and Krozzbow have been playing for a while now and it sounded pretty good. Madden 09 is coming out in 20 minutes or so, so the price was right ($20 bucks).

I just popped it in now to try it out and it seems my curvy white friend has passed on.

3 little red lights and a phone call to Bangladesh later and here I sit typing through my grief unsure of what the future holds.

This is not the first relative I've lost to those damn lights . . . no . . . this kind of pain is all too familiar.  My original Xbox passed with a nasty disk drive failure and his off spring - my first Xbox 360 got the red ring as well.  One minute you're collecting little golden coins on your quest to find the Lego Holy Grail - and the next . . . you just never know.

Do me a favor and hug your controller a little tighter tonight . . . and keep me and my xbox-less existence in your thoughts during this very difficult time.

Trao đổi liên kết tương hỗ (reciprocal linking)

Đây là một trong những phương thức liên kết phổ biến nhất và không thể tránh khỏi trong cộng đồng các Webmaster năng động và sẵn sàng chia sẻ. Liên kết tương hỗ là loại liên kết hai chiều : bạn liên kết tới tôi và tôi sẽ liên kết tới bạn. Dù mang tính chủ quan, nhưng tớ lại cho rằng liên kết tương hỗ vẫn mang xu hướng "tự nhiên" nếu như không quá lạm dụng liên kết như sau :

• Trao đổi liên kết tương hỗ dày đặc quá mức.
• Trao đổi liên kết tương hỗ cùng một thời điểm (Các đường dẫn trao đổi và xuất hiện trong cùng một ngày).
• Website chí có các liên kết tương hỗ được trao đổi (Không có các bản chất liên kết tự nhiên hay trao đổi khác).
• Liên kết tương hỗ với các trang Web mới
• Các liên kết tương hỗ không cùng nội dung, chủ đề.

Ngày nay, thuật toán của các máy tìm kiếm đã rất hoàn thiện trong việc phát hiện các liên kết mang bản chất "không tự nhiên" và bị lạm dụng để thao túng thứ hạng trang Web. Nếu bạn không tuân thủ tính "tự nhiên" trong liên kết, trao đổi như đã trình bày ở trên thì rất có thể website của bạn sẽ bị các máy tìm kiếm áp dụng các hình thức phạt bằng cách không tính đến điểm của các liên kết ngược đến Website của bạn.

Phải nói thêm rằng, dù đây là một trong những phương pháp xây dựng liên kết khá cổ điển và dù thuật toán của Google cũng như những thông báo của Google về việc phát hiện các liên kết "không tự nhiên" (mua bán liên kết, tài trợ ...) thì mạng các liên kết tương hỗ vẫn luôn tỏ ra hiệu quả. Có nhiều trang Web mà thông tin ít được cập nhật và chỉ nhờ vào trao đổi liên kết tương hỗ mà lượng truy cập đến Website trở nên khá đáng kể.

Tóm lại, nếu bạn muốn Website trở nên phổ biến hơn thông qua việc xây dựng các liên kết tương hỗ thì hãy bỏ qua khía cạnh hoạt động của máy tìm kiếm. Nói một cách khác, bạn hãy coi việc trao đổi liên kết tương hỗ là một công cụ xã hội giúp bạn xây dựng quan hệ với các trang liên kết và mang lại một lượng truy cập khác ngoài máy tìm kiếm (Người dùng Internet ít nhiều sẽ nhấn vào liên kết trao đổi và nếu họ quan tâm đến nội dung thì sẽ quay trở lại và trở thành bạn đọc thường xuyên).

Mạng liên kết (interlinking)

Câu hỏi được đặt ra là : Liệu tôi có thể liên kết mạng giữa các Website của mình không ? Và liệu khi tôi tự liên kết giữa các trang của tôi với nhau, nó có bị coi là spam hay không ?

Nếu như bạn để ý các trang Web của Google (Ví dụ Google Blog), chúng đều được liên kết qua lại với nhau dù các dịch vụ là hoàn toàn khác nhau. Đây có phải là một ví dụ điển hình của Google hay không ?

Vì vậy, vietSEO nghĩ các bạn có thể liên kết giữa các sites khác nhau mà các bạn sở hữu (Một số Website điển hình sử dụng phương pháp này như onboom.com, timnhanh.com, baamboo.com). Tuy nhiên bạn nên chú ý trong việc liên kết tới các trang Web quá mới nếu không sẽ dễ bị rơi vào bọ lọc của Google.

Ngoài ra mình nghĩ các gợi ý về việc thêm thẻ "nofollow" như Google gợi ý là không có lợi và thậm chí còn làm cho bản chất liên kết được trao đổi thêm đậm tính "không tự nhiên". Các công ty lớn hay cung cấp nhiều dòng sản phẩm, dịch vụ khác nhau thì sẽ có nhiều trang Web tương ứng, vì thế việc liên kết giữa chúng là hoàn toàn tự nhiên.

Trao đổi liên kết mạng là tự nhiên ngay cả khi nội dung không liên quan và dù cho máy tìm kiếm luốn cố ngăn cản các Webmaster trong việc lạm dụng kiểu liên kết này. Và điều xấu nhất có thể xảy ra là các máy tìm kiếm không tính đến giá trị của các liên kết trên trong việc xác định thứ hạng trang Web. Liên kết mạng trở nên "không tự nhiên" khi :

• Bạn có quá nhiều site (Matt Cutts có lần nói rằng còn số này không được vượt quá 2000 sites) .
• Quá nhiều trang của bạn liên kết mạng cùng một thời điểm.
• Địa chỉ IP của các trang trong mạng bị liệt vào danh sách đen.
• Các trang web đó không có bản chất liên kết nào khác ngoại trừ từ các trang của bạn.

Còn nếu bạn muốn trao đổi liên kết mạng trở lên "tự nhiên" hơn :

• Đừng liên kết trên diện rộng (Hãy tạo một trang riêng như "Các sản phẩm, các dịch vụ" hay các "trang Web khác").
• Không liên kết cùng một thời điểm một số lượng lớn các trang.
• Không liên kết tràn các trang (Nên liên kết theo nhóm sản phẩm, dịch vụ, mức độ liên quan của nội dung) hoặc chỉ liên kết cá biệt từng trang.

Và dù thế nào đi nữa, các bản chất liên kết sẽ trở nên tự nhiên hơn nếu bạn càng ít tìm cách đánh lừa các máy tìm kiếm và dùng thời gian lãng phí đó để tạo các liên kết mang lại thông tin hữu ích cho người dùng.

Microsoft’s thriving business and balance sheet is the envy of every business man. Over the past 12 months, the company had sales of $60.42 billion and a profit of $17.68 billion. You just know that the company is ready to expand further: Microsoft’s war chest currently holds more than $23 billion.

Looking a bit closer at the most recent quarter, the company said that “revenue growth was primarily driven by increased Windows Server and SQL Server revenue, increased licensing of the 2007 Microsoft Office system and Windows Vista, and increased Xbox 360 platform sales.” The terrible dollar exchange rate also helped to drive up foreign sales: Foreign currency exchange rates accounted for a $542 million or four percentage point increase in revenue during the quarter.

Windows Vista sales were said to have been particularly strong. Vista OEM revenue increased $420 million or 13%, driven by 22% growth in OEM license units. Revenue from commercial and retail licensing of Windows operating systems increased $138 million or 22%, primarily from Enterprise Agreements and anti-piracy efforts in emerging markets. OEM premium mix was 72% for the three months ended June 30, 2008. According to Microsoft, total worldwide PC shipments from all sources grew approximately 12% to 14%, driven by demand in both emerging and mature markets.

For the full year, Microsoft said that Vista OEM revenue increased $1.7 billion or 13%, driven by 16% growth in OEM license units. Revenue from commercial and retail licensing of Windows operating systems increased $209 million. Client software revenue (which also includes Microsoft Office) was only 28% ($16.86 billion) of Microsoft’s total revenue, but it delivered the lion’s share of profits - $13.05 billion.

Microsoft said that 180 million Vista licenses have been sold since the operating system’s launch in late January 2007, which is a huge number by any measure. But given the criticism the software lately has received we were wondering whether demand for Vista in fact is increasing or whether it is stable or perhaps even decreasing.

Microsoft said that it sold 20 million copies of Vista in its first month, 40 million copies in its first 100 days and 60 million in six months. We have to be a bit careful with these numbers as they actually include Express Upgrade sales – a program that was available since October 26, 2006 and allowed Microsoft to take advantage of the Christmas season and sell Vista while it actually had no product available.

This current number of 180 million units is not directly comparable as it includes all Vista sales, including licenses via various volume-licensing deals. There was only one number we could find that more directly compares to this new information: In late October of 2007, or just after the 1-year sales anniversary of Vista, Microsoft said that it had sold 88 million copies plus an additional 40+ million licenses, which adds up to about 128 million units total. Divided by 12, this gave Vista a sales pace of about 10.6 million units per month. Nine months later, Microsoft apparently has sold an additional 52 million units total, indicating a pace of just 5.8 million copies and licenses per month since October 2007.

This number, which includes retail copies and volume licensing is actually below the performance of sold retail copies in the first few months after Vista launch: By July 31, or slightly more than nine months after sales begin, Microsoft had sold 60 million retail copies – about 6.7 million units per months.

Clearly, only Microsoft knows the details about its real performance, some numbers reported are more than wishy-washy and let’s not forget that Microsoft deferred Express Upgrade revenue, which blurs sales and unit shipments estimates even further. But if the reported Vista sales numbers are close, we are actually a bit surprised that the figures are not higher, especially since Microsoft said that PC sales in fact are increasing, which should show unit growth on a per-month basis.

So, we are taking these numbers with a grain of salt, but we still can’t help but feel that the Vista picture isn’t quite as rosy as Microsoft is painting it. However, it still brings in the cash, no doubt about it.

Come funziona il mercato del software proprietario?

Diciamo che io spendo 10.000 euro per produrre un certo programma. Se lo vendo a 100 euro a copia, con 100 copie sono andato in pareggio. 100 copie nel mondo non è difficile venderle. Diciamo però che ci voglio guadagnare, anche per 5 volte. Dovrò venderne 500 copie. Ancora una volta 500 copie è un numero abbastanza piccolo in un mercato mondiale.

Ma io non mi accontento e così impongo delle chiavi di attivazione, dei meccanismi anticopia. Tutto ciò ha un costo e se deve essere efficace probabilmente spenderò altri soldi per progettare sistemi sempre più sicuri. Così il costo del software sale da 10mila a 20mila euro. Per guadagnare dovrò quindi vendere più copie, ma per vendere più copie dovrò inventarmi ancora qualche stratagemma.

Se il mio programma ha avuto un certo successo, posso ad esempio chiudere il formato di salvataggio, così che chi vuole interagire con gli utenti del mio programma dovrà anche lui comprarlo. Questa "chiusura" ha di per sè un costo perché, invece di salvare i dati con formati noti, dovrò pagare qualcuno per architettare un formato strano e incomprensibile. E il costo del mio software sale, da 20 a 25mila euro.
Ma ancora non basta perché qualcuno potrebbe fare il reverse engineering del formato e fregarmi. Così pago qualcuno per inventarsi una cosa chiamata criptazione. Ma attenzione: non potrò usare una criptazione normale, già nota, ma una nuova. E dovrò pagare qualcuno. Questo è un lavoro molto complesso e probabilmente mi costerà almeno quanto il programma stesso, se non di più. Quindi da 25 passo  a 35mila euro.
Ma non basta ancora. Per rendere davvero efficace la criptazione, ho bisogno di dispositivi hardware che stabiliscano senza equivoci se il programma è originale o meno. Arrivo così al Trusted Computing. Le vecchie chiavette hardwave, infatti, non bastano più al giorno d'oggi. Progettare i dispositivi per il Trusted Computing costa moltissimo. Convincere i produttori hardware a installarli su tutti i pc, anche. E il pc lievita un poco di prezzo. Così il mio programma, alla fine, costa 50mila euro.
Ma ancora non è finita. In fondo qualcuno potrebbe riuscire ad aggirare tutte le protezioni (come accade con l'hackintosh) e fregarmi. Così convinco i governi a rendere reato la copia abusiva, l'aggiramento delle protezioni, ecc.
Per farlo spendo 1milione di euro in una massacrante campagna stampa contro la "pirateria". Così, alla fine, il mio programma mi costa 1milione e 50mila euro.

Ma ancora non basta. Qualcuno si inventa l'idea che i formati dovrebbero essere aperti e registra un bellissimo formato alternativo al mio presso l'ISO.
Così sono costretto a inseguire il concorrente e inventarmi un nuovo formato finto-aperto. L'ISO non vuole registrarlo, ma io convinco i miei partner ad iscriversi all'ISO, pagando loro la quota di iscrizione, per farli votare. Spendo 1milione di euro per farlo e così il costo del mio programma sale a 2milioni e 50mila euro.
Ma non finisce qui. Il programma devo pur venderlo e siccome è un po' pericoloso farlo scaricare da Internet ma soprattutto devo farmi tanta pubblicità, devo mettere in piedi una rete commerciale imponente. Questa rete dovrà vendere almeno 2.050.000/100=20.500 copie del programma solo per andare in pareggio! Ma la rete e la pubblicità di per sé costano. Diciamo che spendo 1milione di euro per implementarla. Allora dovrò vendere 30.500 copie!
Qual è il rapporto tra il costo originario e quello finale? Siamo passati da 10.000 a 3milioni. Quindi 3.000.000/10.000=300 volte tanto! Il tutto non per aggiungere funzioni utili al programma ma per blindarlo. Dai 100 euro di costo finale al consumatore, solo 1/300 rappresenta lo stipendio dei programmatori! E solo, ripeto, per andare in pareggio.
Il tutto danneggiando gli utenti che avranno computer con chip strani, saranno bombardati di pubblicità, controllati dalla polizia (il che ha un costo per tutti i cittadini...)

Così funziona il modello di business del software proprietario. Non vi pare un po' perverso?

Tom Gallagher, senior security test lead Microsoft Office, mengatakan jaringan botnet milik sendiri itu digunakan untuk menyerang aplikasi Office dengan memanfaatkan metode bernama fuzzing. Metode serupa konon juga dilakukan oleh para dedemit maya dalam mencari kelemahan piranti lunak.

Selain botnet tersebut, Gallagher dan rekan-rekannya juga kerap melakukan uji penetrasi pada aplikasi dan kode program Microsoft Office. "Jika ada area berisiko yang menurut kami perlu diketahui oleh tim produksi, kami akan mencoba membobolnya layaknya dedemit maya," ujar Gallagher seperti dikutip detikINET dari DarkReading.

Microsoft acaba de presentar un nuevo portal de aplicaciones para Windows Mobile, luego del lanzamiento de AppStore de Apple, Microsoft con su nuevo website hace la competencia con 18mil aplicaciones VS menos de mil aplicaciones disponibles para el iPhone.

Sitio web basado en la nueva tecnología Silverlight de Microsoft, para mala onda de usuarios, no cuenta con un buscador, esperamos que proximamente se añada uno para facilitarnos la vida ya que con tantas aplicaciones existentes y sin la información precisa (búsquedas), dificilmente creo que determinemos que bajar.

Hay que reconocer que Microsoft tiene en funcionamiento su propia tienda de aplicaciones desde hace mucho tiempo con el nombre de Windows Mobile Catalog y aprovechando la situación de Apple con su App Store, decidieron renovar nombre.

I barely saw Nintendo's presentation, but I heard I didn't miss much. Microsoft's showcased Gears of War 2, which was expected, but the later half of the presentation was a joke. Being a Sony fanboy myself, I loved theirs, even though they didn't do as well as they could have -- see above paragraph. What put Sony above the other two, was how they utilized Little Big Planet's concept of user created content, to make a presentation. Oh my, informative and fun, this made listening to more statistics not want to make me kill myself.

I watched E308 coverage almost entirely on G4, which I have to admit, is getting better. Somehow they managed to get -- and keep, attractive hosts, that know what the hell they are talking about, and Olivia Munn is rapidly taking over Morgan Webb's spot as hottest gaming chick alive. Like I said I was overall disappointed with E3. It isn't the E3 it used to be, thanks to bitchy people. First of all, why is E3 in July, with Christmas around 5 months away?! Limited entry to only people in the "industry", I feel like the whole experience has been watered down, and I know I'm not the only one who thinks that.

That being said, I am genuinely looking forward to the update. I tend to stream a lot DIVx from my Mac and if it gives previews for those files on the network I will love it forever. It'll be like Apple TV... for free. Plus it'll actually PLAY my video files! (Come on Apple - I want to see more than just h264 codec support!) And what's with ripping off Nintendo Wii's avatars? I think the tech world is soon going to turn patent crazy.

Hoje passeando pela internet, afinal estamos sem nada a fazer nas férias, encontrei reclamações sobre o proejto KDE, uma bela interface gráfica para Linux, na minha opinião melhor que a renomada GNOME.

Estudo diariamente com amigos que se dizem ser livres, adeptos ao software-livre, que estão instalando distribuição F, ou U e estão se livrando do "maldoso" sistema operacional da Microsoft, o Windows. Detalhe que este mesmo que reclama utiliza por vezes o "bugado" Windows.

Ao ler um artigo em um famoso blog, li um trecho do blog de um dos desenvolvedores do KDE, Troy Unrau, em que descrevia o seguinte sobre as reclamações:

KDE e o Open Source não é e nunca foi obrigado a agradar usuários. Nós não somos obrigados a consertar bugs. Nós não somos obrigados a implementar coisas que vocês exigem. Nós não somos obrigados a disponibilizar fóruns abertos para vocês nos atacarem pessoalmente.

Informo também que as reclamações não são apenas de usuários leigos, e sim de especialistas, jornalistas renomados como Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols. Agora lanço a vocês a seguinte questão: Você ouviria (leria) isso da Microsoft?

Apóio o software-livre mais utilizo o Sistema Operacional da Microsoft, original por sinal, e não tenho reclamações, e acredito que depois dessa declaração do figura acima, encontramos um pequeno dilema no mundo do software-livre,  até onde vai o compromisso dos desenvolvedores com os seus usuários?

Deixa essa para os adeptos do software-livre responderem...
