Yeah yeah I'm always late on this stuff. Sorry, work and school and laziness =)

Excuses for the win. Anywho, I watched. LAST WEEK. Not on YouTube :)

It was a great debate. Very informative, and... I think Jack Layton did a really good job. I loved how Stephen Harper initiated the attack on the Liberal campaign and Stephane Dion; then all of a sudden the other four party leaders completely blasted Harper and the Conservatives for their failure of a government for the past two years. I believe they were right on.

Another thing I believe is that the Conservatives are more and more like the Republicans of the States. Harper and the Conservatives as of yet do not understand the Carbon Tax. I actually got the Liberal campaign booklet and read everything on the Carbon Tax, through every detail and what Dion says was spot on. Although in my last post on the election I said the Carbon Tax was quite useless; I have seen the light! It is a great method to punish those who are to hurt our environment and give back to the people as another benefit. I hope the Conservatives understand this.

Now, another thing I need to add is that... WOW! I am so surprised about Elizabeth May and her Green Party's platform. It's quite amazing I must say. I thought as a special interest party environment and a few other things were all the Green Party had, but to my constant undisputed belief; the Green Party had a lot to offer the average Canadian and Elizabeth May fought on par with all the other party leaders. If I had a second party to vote for other than the NDP, it would be the Green Party all the way.

I found the Bloc Quebecois leader Gille Duceppe quite... How should I say, useless. Although he was right about many things, he just seemed like he was unnecessary on the debate table. Though I found him to say that he would never become Prime Minister an admirable thing. At least he knows where he stands and does not act as if he could topple over all other parties with what there is available to the Bloc at this moment.

Now, Harper just got attacked throughout the debate. Of course he is the current government and that is to be expected; but in such an incredulous amount? That I don't think so. I think Harper and the Conservatives deserved every attack aimed at them. Canada has fallen into deficit and dropped out of one of the best Kyoto protocols and even entered Afghanistan and the Conservatives had the nerve to cut funds to the arts! The arts a major thing to the Canadian people, and the defence or "repair" of Afghanistan was not an interest Canada was so strong to pursue. Canada to many Canadians, myself included has faced away from it's peaceful presence in the world.

The Conservatives have offered no plan for the next government and the people are completely lost about the Conservatives. I am appalled to see many die-hard Conservatives tell me that they're just voting on what the last government was about. I believe Harper should understand what responsibilities he really has. Just because you cut 95, 000 jobs and created 100, 000 is nothing to be proud of. The 95, 000 lost were high paying, good jobs to raise a family on and live a good life. The 100, 000 are labour jobs by working at minimum wage. Harper relied on this so much during the debate, and I was so greatly angered by him just praying on this argument. I don't think he knows exactly what it's like to lose a good job and try to find one on par with the last. Another thing is that the new offenders act by Harper is disgusting. Fourteen year olds should NOT spend life in prison with adults. That is conflicting of the rights of a child.

Only one big thought on the Liberals. I like their campaign a lot; and pragmatically, they have fed off very well from the other parties to improve themselves for today's day and age. But Stephane Dion as the leader is something I do not like. Yes, he is strong in French, but during the debate I could not fully make out whatever he was saying. I think if he wants to see himself as Prime Minister, he needs to improve on his English language skills and better communication with his ideas as I don't think he can speak of them so well as he should. This might be mean, but guys, this is a candidate for the highest position in our country.

Hehehe... Time to comment on my NDP! Jack Layton! I think he might just cut being a good Prime Minister. It seems over the years he has his platform well memorized and it is very beneficial to the average Canadian. His attacks on the Conservatives were very well done. Why? Because he backed it up with what the NDP would do in exchange. I love the health care plan to get more doctors. It is something stolen from Cuba, but then again, if it worked in Cuba, then surely of course, it would work in Canada. The CMA is greatly diminishing potential doctors and it is time to get those oldies to realize that public healthcare is the way to go. Private healthcare is not in the interest of Canada.

The debate was very good, and I wish it was longer. Eight questions were not enough. Especially when immigration was not tackled at all; I think this is a major issue that should have been questioned.

Z jakiegoś powodu media i ekspertów oświadczenie to oburzyło.

W końcu to on najlepiej wie co mu konkretnie dolega. Szpital zapewni pacjentowi profesjonalną salę operacyjną i profesjonalny sprzęt, a cięcia - w ramach budżetowych oszczędności - wykona osobiście sam zainteresowany.

Wtedy przyjdzie czas, by zupełnie zerwać związek chorego z medycyną. Z obowiązków służby zdrowia ustawowo wykreśli się wszelkie usługi świadczone pacjentom. Wszak to właśnie leczenie ludzi ciągle stanowi najpoważniejszy punkt budżetu placówek i powoduje dokuczliwe deficyty.

Regular MLAs in the Northwest Territories legislature slammed Finance Minister Michael Miltenberger

Regular MLAs in the Northwest Territories legislature slammed Finance Minister Michael Miltenberger for considering tax increases to generate more money for the territory.

'We might as well have been asked to go out and ask our constituents if they'd like us to poke them in the eye with a sharp stick.'—Jane Groenewegen, Hay River South MLA

Miltenberger has floated such ideas as raising taxes on individuals and introducing a sales tax, among numerous other options finance officials are exploring as the territorial government finds more revenue sources.

"We might as well have been asked to go out and ask our constituents if they'd like us to poke them in the eye with a sharp stick," Hay River South MLA Jane Groenewegen told the assembly Thursday.

The government had planned to cut spending by $135 million over this fiscal year and next.

But in a fiscal update Thursday, Miltenberger said that plan was thrown off track when regular, or non-cabinet, MLAs threatened to vote down the last budget over various proposed cuts to government jobs and programs.

"So there was a number of adjustments made throughout the budget process, and we put positions back, we added some money back as we tried to accomodate and still move forward," he said.

The government's cost-cutting target is now down to $111 million over four years, Miltenberger said.

As a result, finance officials are now trying to make up the shortfall by finding more revenues than it had planned.

MLAs urged the government not to consider anything that could add to the rising cost of living in the North. Instead, some proposed a resource tax and finding innovative ways to get more people who work in the N.W.T. to live there.

The government estimates more than 2,000 people working in the N.W.T.'s mining industry live and pay taxes elsewhere.

Miltenberger said he continues to consider all options for raising revenue.

Zadnje parlamentarne volitve dejansko ne prinašajo le menjavo oblasti in nove čase, ko bo nova oblast nenazadnje morala poiskati ideološko sebi ustrezne definicije za v zadnjem mandatu novopridbljene pogovorne besede ali izraze - tajkuni, sproščeni, globoka država in podobne oslarije - ampak tudi slovo levodesnega, rdečeličnega, enega in edinega, "capo di bandita" slovenske diplomacije, Dimitrija Rupla.

I support and agree with concerns about the delay in bringing forward the scheme which the Minister

I support and agree with concerns about the delay in bringing forward the scheme which the Minister for Finance said would come before both Houses. We have seen what happened this morning in the UK. I do not believe it is accurate to say that the UK Government has copied the Irish Government. That is not true. The UK Government has taken preference shares in the banks it has proposed to assist and it has included a requirement that any bank wishing to participate in the scheme must sign up to an agreement on executive pay and dividends. There are many other differences between the UK Government's proposal and what has been done here.

The Financial Regulator has said there is no difficulty with the capitalisation of the Irish banks. However, we have been asked to accept other statements from and about the banks in recent months which have proven not to be true. I note a nuance in the comments of the Minister for Finance this morning. He says he does not believe there is a difficulty with under-capitalisation. However, the Minister for Finance rather ominously stated that things are changing by the day. Therefore, it is not at all clear that there is not a difficulty with under-capitalisation in the Irish banks. What is the current position in Ireland with respect to the guarantee?

There is no guarantee is the answer.

The Minister for Finance and the Government announced an intention to provide a guarantee, which was a plan for the future, but there is no guarantee for today. This is a serious situation of which I do not make light as a topic for debate. However, the seriousness of the situation is increased with a further delay in the presentation of the scheme.

The delay also raised the question of what we were doing here last week in the overnight session. What was the point of it? We passed enabling legislation which has not been acted upon. Therefore, apart from the amendments to the competition legislation which, although important are marginal, the content of the legislation, the scheme and the guarantee are meaningless because nothing has been carried out. What were we doing here overnight last week? I do not have any difficulty with making myself available, nor do my colleagues. However, the sum total of our efforts add to nothing as nothing has changed. Our job is not to provide an overnight supporters' rally for the work of the Government or the Minister for Finance. We are legislators and we are constitutionally required to scrutinise proposed legislation. The scheme was supposed to be brought before the Houses. Unless and until this happens there is no Irish guarantee; it simply does not exist yet. This is a reflection of the seriousness of the matter.

The Government's intentions are becoming less, rather than more, clear with each day. The Minister for Finance has now indicated, perhaps correctly - I do not claim he has no basis for the comments, but it shows how unclear the position is - the possibility of a limit on the amount of deposits banks can take on. The developments in the UK this morning will have implications for foreign owned banks operating in Ireland. That may have implications for our scheme and there is the wider EU context. The situation is sliding by the day. All of the talk and congratulation we indulged in last week for being first into the breech now rings hollow. It looks like we are now one of the last into the breech in completing a proper scheme to put before the Houses and implement a guarantee. At present there is no Irish guarantee.

More :: I raised these issues in the Seanad and they were featured on RTE's Oireachtas Report. Click here to view the programme (from 6min 10secs onwards).

both historical reevaluation of religious tradition and a result of current social changes can contribute to the renewal of women's ordination rights. women, while seen as unfit for ministerial positions in many christian traditions today, were not seen as unfit in early christianity. the sexist framework applied to religion today is largely the result of patriarchal culture seeping into what was once an egalitarian movement.

Upon arriving at the nearest church, you find that guitar-god Carlos Santana is at the pulpit leading the day's seremony.

Does this sound like a dream? It may not be for very long. According to a recent Rolling Stone interview, Santana wants to give up rock at 67 and become a minister like Little Richard.

"I'm not sick of what I do, but I find that God gave me the gift of communication even without my guitar and with the ability to get people unstuck with certain sections of the Bible having to do with guilt, shame, judgment and fear," said the aging-rocker.

Although I am not deeply religious (as I consider myself spiritual and yes, before you ask, I think there is a difference between the two), I might consider converting if it meant hearing Santana jam at morning mass on a regular basis. Are all ministers like this rock and roll legend? If I were into the bible, this might do a lot when it comes to trying to get me to the proverbial church on time.

[caption id="attachment_238" align="alignright" width="137" caption="Rev. Glanzer" width="137" height="195" />[/caption]

I recently felt that something was missing in my life, though I seemed to have it all—a wonderful fiance, a decent job, a second decent job, relatively good health. But there was this void. Something was missing. And then on Sunday morning I discovered the answer to my problems.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am now an ordained minister.

So is Roscoe, actually.

We decided to become ordained ministers at the Universal Life Church in Modesto, California because we can. With the completion of one simple online form, I achieved the same status that some, like my manager Aaron, had to work tirelessly for years to reach. I am now legally able to perform baptisms, wedding ceremonies, and funerals. Well, I will be legal as soon as I take my certificate down and register with the county or state. So, if anyone's looking for a cheap officiant, I'm your guy!

Poor Cubs Fans...
In other news, the Cubs were knocked out of the playoffs Saturday after a horrific showing against the Dodgers, making it an even 100 years since their last title. I think it's tough being a Twins fan with the team being good—but not great—for most of the past decade, losing its share of heartbreakers late in the season.

But these poor Cubs fans get their hopes up every year thinking "this is the year!" and then, like always, lose in demoralizing fashion. I thought last year that Arizona was the better team and didn't expect the Cubs to win. But this year, the Dodgers came in as the inferior team and made the Cubs look pitiful.

I am not a Cubs fan, so it doesn't bother me, but Lauren is and I feel her pain. (In fact, I realized this year that I hate every other team except the Twins and, for some reason, the Marlins and Diamondbacks.) But I can't imagine what it would be like to be a lifelong Cubs fan in my 90s having experienced no success. That's like me living to be 90 and going through 64 more losing seasons for the Twins.

For more info on the Cubs' demoralizing season, check out Lauren's article over on babeslovebaseball.com!

I feel so sad. My life has been turned upside down by the fact that I live inside a giant fish bow

I feel so sad. My life has been turned upside down by the fact that I live inside a giant fish bowl. Part of me wants to be thankful for this bowl as it is large enough for my family. But most of me wants to just be sad and upset at the fact that we (my family and I) live here.

I am a ministers wife. For those of you who don't know what that involves, let me tell you. First and foremost, you are expected to always agree with your minister husband and never disagree with him in front of the congregation or any part of it. You are expected to take care of and be in charge of everything that no one else wants to do, which is everything. When I say everything, I mean everything. Everyone in the congregations has an idea what should be done and how it should be done and probably thinks that you are handling it wrong and aren't afraid to tell you so. But, that is as far as the help goes. Because under no circumstances will they help.

We live in the parsonage, that is the house owned by the church that you are allowed to live in rent free as long as you take care of it. We take care of it, but I hate it. Hate it so bad that I hardly ever clean it. It honestly looks like one of those wrecks on the Oprah show where the people had their kids taken away because of the mess. I mean, it is not dirty really, just messy. I don't have the desire to pick up or put up anything.

Please don't get me wrong, I love my Lord, I love my husband and I love my kids. I simply hate being the minister's wife. I want to be my husband's wife. The minister's wife is where you are married to the entire church. You are everything to everyone.

As far as the fish bowl goes, that it what I will from here on out call my house. I want out so badly. So badly that it hurts. I cry almost daily about it. I long for a home of my very own. A home where we can be ourselves and not have to answer to anyone except our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

The only thing keeping us here is the lack of money to do anything else. If something doesn't happen soon to change that, I will surely go completely insane.

I was not raised to be poor and personally it SUCKS. Yes, the minister's wife said SUCKS and I don't really care who has anything to say about it.

And the Battle Still Rages On..... http://www.ebaumsworld.com/pictures/view/561435/#

I started voting when John Kerry was running against George Bush. The most dramatic thing that happened was the "swift boat ads" that attacked John Kerry's service record. At that time, the country was still living in constant fear of another terrorist attack. Unfortunately, Americans felt much more safe with the same president that had resided over the country after 9/11. George Bush won because people thought that he was the best bet. Then Hurricane Katrina hit & his delayed reaction was devastating to the victims & the rest of the country. People really started to compile a list of negatives about George Bush which has resulted in the low approval ratings that he has today! Not only that, there are some who consider him to be a war criminal for the Iraq war. For those reasons, the 2008 election has dominated the minds of the majority of Americans. The current president is so disliked that voters want to make sure they don't make the same mistake again. More people are registering to vote than ever. But it's not just George Bush that's got the country energized this election cycle.

During the presidential primaries, there were two democratic candidates that got the country motivated to vote. Hillary Clinton & Barack Obama's heated race brought so much passion to each candidate's supporters. It created a huge divide in the democratic party & when Hillary lost it outraged her devotees. Although Barack Obama won, some Hillary Clinton enthusiasts have become some of his most vocal detractors. Their passion seemed to overwhelm all sense of logic even though this was a historical moment! Because never in America has there been a black man leading the democratic party in the fight to win the presidency! That moment was almost overshadowed by all the drama involving both of the Clintons!

Up until this point, there's been barely a ripple of excitement coming from the republican pick, John McCain. Oh, there was a little attention paid to him during the primaries because his campaign was running out of money. Many political pundits thought he would have to drop out. They kept talking about Mike Huckabee or Mitt Romney. Frankly, Mitt Romney is good-looking so it would have made this race more thrilling if he would have gotten it. I don't think people felt comfortable with because he was Mormon. Most republicans have an evangelical background so they were gravitating towards Mike Huckabee. But, John McCain emerged as the victor in the presidential primaries.

He was touted as the ultimate war hero but he wasn't exciting the republican base. Well, they almost ejaculated when they found out who the VP pick was. Sarah Palin stimulated more than the base. The whole country became beguiled with this unknown female governor from Alaska. They became even more fascinated because she had some drama going on in her life.

With the revelation that she had an unmarried 17 year-old daughter, people really started to dissect her whole life more. Then it was revealed that she may have tried to get her brother-in-law fired because he was going through a bad divorce with her sister. It's the basis of an investigation many have dubbed "troopergate". Then, a tape was shown of Sarah Palin at Wasilla Church. There was an excerpt of the tape that was of particular concern to many. Sarah Palin revealed that a witch hunter put his hands on her & she became governor of Alaska! A lot of people just didn't know what to make of the tape! They found that to be an incredulous claim & they speculated about her belief in witchcraft! Pretty spooky! But, if that's not enough drama then let's rewind back to Barack Obama.

As the first black candidate, there is drama in just that fact alone. Then, it came to light that he had a controversial preacher who has preached some radical sermons. The fact that he had any involvement at all with Reverend Wright threatened to derail his campaign. Especially when the preacher started making public appearances. It seemed like this scandal would never die down. Fortunately for him, that is the worst of his indignities. The other tittle-tattle was easily disproved. Everyone that has the capacity to do research knows he is a Christian & not a Muslim. There's been a lot of speculation about each of these candidates. From celebrities to talk show hosts, these candidates have dominated the airwaves! Comedians like Tina Fey have delighted people with her dead-on impersonations of Sarah Palin! Who could forget her parody of that awful Katie Couric interview? This presidential election has had more plot twists than an Alfred Hitchock movie! It's a mystery who will win but I'm sure glad I'll have a hand in solving it!

So, it's happened, West Bengal and its little villages aren't going to see the light of day. It's alleged that Nano has shifted shop to Ahmadabad, almost. Here's to Sanand, 25 kms from Ahmadabad. Singur has lost the battle or has Mamta Banerjee (All India Trinamool Congress) and, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya CPI (M) West Bengal, failed as leaders to herald the state to self sustenance.

This was one chance to redeem west Bengals glorious past, and it's slipped away. Complicated politics, bullying and hooliganism has won yet again, treading upon common sentiments, may be no one cares. A progressive manufacturing unit shunned away to fight for land. Whose land is it anyway and what good is it? Innumerable factory lockouts, fading British sagas, and fields that aren't so useful anymore. Wonder what the government proposes. Supply jobs, I don't see it happening. Declare it a political fiasco and pass the blame.

Another serious thought: Who's in power anyways? In this democracy, people still go by the rod. Call for a bandh, engage in terrorist like activities and bully the poor and powerless. What you get is self proclaimed, loud, selfish, politicians who aren't doing anything for the government. This leads to another question. As people we are helpless. Why do we vote? Who do we bring to power? The ever so helpless common man who's willing to place their trust in the government that's not even shamefaced half the time.

Not that the CPI (M) isn't too blame. After the exposure of involvement of their cadres in the Nandi gram violence, I don't know what to believe anymore. Common sense suggests that everyone's using pressure tactics to keep the less powerful mum. No one knows what's happening, it's chaotic and depressing. With every passing year, West Bengal falls deeper into controversy and people get more helpless. Some get disgusted, others adjust and live on, and some more like me, leave and drift away with the best of memories, but not a single step back home.

To think about it, it's Durga puja, I'm a miles away, but it still leaves a bitter taste, and a hollow feeling. I know Singur was a feasible option and Tata meant progress, but that's the past now. With the walkout, it's certain we aren't expecting any big company to set foot in the state. People are scared. We do this to an Indian (Ratan Tata) in India itself, the world is watching. I can't imagine any proposals sitting at the minister's desk for approval. Just like the plight of jute factory workers and industry workers, and so many ventures, even this is passé.

What's next?

This particular case had started, as many do, with a custody battle. The mother had started to worry about her ex-partner's behaviour during his visits to their daughter. She approached social services to ask if they could supervise his visits. When the child then told a teacher that her father had touched her in bad places, the police were called. They filmed the child repeating the allegations. The upshot? A psychologist who watched the film but never met the mother, father or daughter wrote a report alleging that the mother had coached the daughter to lie. He never appeared in court, and was never crossexamined. Yet the court, encouraged by social workers, accepted his view. The judge ordered that the daughter should go to live with her father - a man the mother was convinced was an abuser.

My bitter regret, now, is that I did so little about that case. At the time I couldn't help wondering if there was not more to it than the mother had let on. And there may well have been. But today, I'm not so sure. Because so many elements of her story fit patterns that I have since heard again and again. The reliance on experts who have never met the accused. The stormtrooper behaviour of some social workers. The legal aid solicitors acting for parents who are always in a rush. This mother was plunged into a world of acronyms and organisations that she knew nothing about. She was always on the back foot. Having been the person who reached for help from the system, she became its victim.

The tale niggled away at me. I started asking questions. Soon after this encounter I met Denise and Nigel Clarkson, who had lost both their daughters after one sustained an unexplained injury, and who fought like tigers to get them back. Through the Eaton Foundation, which they founded, I met American doctors and radiologists who were challenging many of the assumptions made by British doctors who were diagnosing abuse from so-called “shaken baby syndrome” and certain tiny bone fractures.

I began to write about cases where judges were speaking out publicly about the failings of social services. In early 2006, Mr Justice Ryder denounced Oldham Council for taking a baby away from his parents because of a doctor who “strayed from the role of expert into the role of decision-maker” and a family court judge who “failed to detect that that was what had happened”. Two courts refused to let the parents seek a second medical opinion. It was a year, the most formative year of that child's life, before the Court of Appeal allowed them to call a neurologist who proved that the injury was caused before birth. We know of that blunder only because the judge involved chose to make his judgment public. Few judges do.

The stories began to pour in. People left messages on my answering machine saying that the system was rotten but that they dared not speak out, because they had managed to get their children back. Some had taken a sick child to hospital, only to be accused of physical abuse. Some had been accused of “emotional abuse”, a category that has no definition in British law but which has jumped 50 per cent in the past tenyears as a reason for taking children into care. Quite a number had complained about their local authority, for letting them down over special-needs education, for example, only to find themselves in turn accused of neglect. One woman in Sheffield sobbed that her two autistic sons had been robbed of their mother, as well as the care they needed, because she was accused of making up their symptoms.

Some parents complained about social workers and hospitals refusing to give them copies of any papers or X-rays in their cases, which they needed to mount appeals. Every single one felt that the system was set against them before they could even assemble a defence. Some had real problems: violent ex-partners or unreliable new ones, low IQ, brushes with drugs in the past. Many had never been known to social services or the police before. All were desperate to be given the chance to prove that they were good parents, some begging the local authority to install CCTV cameras in their homes.

Many alleged that their children were treated far worse in care: unloved, not allowed to do homework, some with a new bruise almost every time they came for supervised contact, bruises that were never explained.

Since local authorities generally would not talk to me, citing confidentiality, I still had only part of the picture. Was there really a problem, or were these people all lying? I looked for figures. Were particular local authorities taking above-average numbers of children into care, for example? How many of these proceedings were contested? How many mothers were being accused of having Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy, a psychiatric disorder that is supposed to be rare but seemed to be cropping up too often in my conversations? I would call the Home Office, which would refer me to the Lord Chancellor's Department, which would refer me to the various incarnations of the Education Department, which would usually refer me back to the Home Office. Many of my questions were met with the answer that the data was “not held centrally”. This whole area started to look more and more like a hole inside government that ministers were simply not interested

Two weeks ago I got a phone call from a woman I hadn't seen for four years. She was calling to tell me that she was moving abroad, unable to bear the pain of living in the same country as the daughter she is no longer allowed to see. “I wanted to thank you,” she said, “for being the only person who ever gave me a fair hearing.” I was seized with guilt. This woman had asked for my help, and I had utterly failed her. Her story had been just so incredible. She described a world where courts need no criminal conviction to remove your child, only the word of a psychiatrist or doctor, and can deny you the chance to call any expert in your defence. A world that uses the “welfare of the child” to gag you from discussing your case. Where even if you prove yourself innocent on appeal, your children may already have been adopted: in which case you will never be allowed to contact them again. A world which had treated her so badly, this rather pretty and utterly normal young woman, that she was sincerely thanking me just for listening.

It had taken three calls from this lady and her boyfriend, a clean-cut army bloke, before I had agreed to go down to their provincial semi. We sat in their front room with the curtains drawn while they got out box after box of papers. And I got my first inkling of what it is like to go through the door into the secret state.
