• Inzamam-ul-Haq is a giant both in physical stature and in cricketing terms. As well as his run-making abilities and prowess against pace, Inzy will be well remembered by cricket fans of all stripes for going after a spectator who compared him to a potato, getting run out on a frequent basis and of course falling over his wicket.

• Shahid Afridi is perhaps the ultimate in Pakistani cricket's recent cult figures, even to the extent that some people name their cats after him. Whatever else he did in his career (and he did quite a lot), he will be remembered by many for these two things.

However, on Friday, he said Pakistan were a young team that was improving. "It will take time to groom the players and we are doing our best in that," he said. Pakistan won the Kitply cup 2008 with flying colors beating India by a big margin but that did not happen before a 140 run defeat by the same opposition earlier in the tournament.

Today:

Pakistan is now playing the Aisa Cup 2008. She beat Hong Kong but there was nothing special about this win, in fact Pakistan in the end was actually lucky that this match did not become a carbon copy of their embarrassing (probably the most embarrassing of all time) loss to minnows Ireland back in the world cup 2007. Their match against India showed how much the Pakistani team lacked with the ball when India (thanks to massive contributions from S. Raina and V. Sehvag) chased down 299 by Pakistan in merely 42 overs and 1 ball out of the alloted 50 overs. The very next match against Srilanka showed how Pakistan lacked with the bat when they were unable to take on neither the Srilankan spinners nor the fast bowlers.

The result is that Pakistan is almost out of the tournament. The blame is being spilled on the coach and the captain. The news is always filled with reports of possible ouster of both coach and captain since it is all their fault that Pakistan contineously performs bad.

However, I would really like to argue this stance that its the captain and the coach who are responsible. I mean come on lets face it, Pakistan has a depleted team and has been a depleted team for a long time now. We don't have Shoiab Akhtars or Muhammad Asifs in the team. Instead we have Fawad Alams (He made his first 50 against Hong Kong and his bowling average is 79.25 ... OK benefit of the doubt for him because he has only played 10 ODIs) and a lot of new kids who have not reached the level that players of other countries have.

Pakistan will play India today and there will be debutants in the side. Predictions are that if Pakistan fails, the axe will fall on the captain and the coach. I think thats just kicking the wrong people because a captain and coach can't level up kids and dabutants in one match. We just simply lack enough capable players because they have not had enough exposure and all the players that have exposure are either injured (Umer Gul), stupid (Muhammad Asif and Shoaib Akhtar) or simply not performing (Shahid Afridi).

Suggestions:

My suggestion to PCB ... guys please try to fix the real wrongs.

Shoaib Malik (capt), Salman Butt, Nasir Jamshed, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal (wk), Sohail Khan, Umar Gul, Sohail Tanvir, Rao Iftikhar, Wahab Riaz, Fawad Alam, Bazid Khan, Naumanullah.

I think that the squad is perfect for this series and this will really work out for Pakistan. Umar Gul and Sohail Tanvir have performed pretty well in the IPL and the Pakistani crowd has a lot of expectations for these two bowlers. Sohail Khan has replaced Muhammad Asif because Asif has been caught in a drugs case at Dubai.

Shahid Afridi has done it again! He has made a name for himself in the ongoing Indian Premier League but in the wrong books! The dynamic 'boom boom Afridi' from Pakistan who is playing for the Deccan Chargers has called for the removal of cheerleaders from the IPL tournament saying that they cause too much of a "distraction"!

Speaking to The NEWS he said: "The girls in skimpy dresses should be removed from the ground as this is distracting the batsman."

Afridi... Afridi... what are we to say to you now?

Why is it that you are the ONLY person in the ENTIRE IPL who seems to be visibly distracted by the girls dancing outside the boundries?

Are they popping in front of the sight-screen or is it just you who simply can't keep your eyes off them?

How come such a news never made the stands back in South Africa when the Twenty20 World Cup took place last year?

Is it because you were eager to smash around and had your eyes set on McCullum's 158 in the first match of the IPL clashes but failed to score even in double figures?

Really... which one is it Afridi?

The only statement to come out of him that actually makes any sense is not about the cheerleaders but in fact the complaint that Pakistani players have been undervalued as compared to players from other countries. This seems to be rightly so.

But that is not the issue here is it? If you want to break records, you gotta keep your eyes on the ball Mr. Afridi. Or is that getting too hard for you now? *chuckles*

As Venkat Vardhan, the managing director of DNA Networks and the producer of the pre-game show puts it: "The cricket is serious. But there's entertainment for the crowd and the TV viewers!"

What went wrong??? Too many Individual performers who could not put together their skills and failed as a team or was it a casual attitude. Somehow the seriousness and urge to win was missing in Deccan charger Players Today. One exception off course is Young Lad Rohit Sharma, who is improving day by day and has a bright Future

How could one explain for such a poor performance of players like Symonds and Gilchrist. During bidding process of players for IPL teams, Deccan Chargers( Owner of Deccan Chargers) had aggressively bid for Symonds ( at Rs. 5.4 Crores,his price is next only to MS Dhoni). But where is the return on investment. Both Symonds and Gilchrist need to do some self Analysis and come out fully charged for the next match and show that they are worth of their price.

Just what the Pakistani people need to air their grievances and display their natural generosity I do not know. What I do know is that Pakistan are former World Champions and a proud cricket nation that has always mixed it with the world's best.

Granted, Pakistan's little brother, Bangladesh are yet to win an international match on the home soil of their hosts and they have lost every match against top opposition since last year's World Cup yet there is still much that is of interest to the less fickle of cricketing enthusiast.

When recidivist Australia cancelled their scheduled tour of Pakistan at the last available minute Bangladesh stepped into the breach to give Pakistani cricket fans an opportunity to cheer on their heroes in the flesh. Unlucky runners-up at the T20 Championships, Pakistan have an exciting team that play without fear and when on song and in mood they play a scintillating brand of limited overs cricket.

From the opening partnership of vice captain Salman Butt and rising teenage superstar Nasir Jamshed through the world class middle order that includes run machine Mohammed Yousef, dependable skipper Shoaib Malik, enigmatic late bloomer Misbah ul-Haq, Pathan warrior Younis Khan and the explosive match winner Shahid Afridi, Pakistan have a batting line up that can compete and defeat any side in world cricket.

Opening bowlers Umar Gul and the Wasim Akram clone, Sohail Tanvir (a slow left arm spinner according to Cricinfo) are swift and canny enough to trouble most bats on their lifeless home wickets. With a coach of Geoff Lawson's standing and knowledge these two young men should reach potential promising a wonderful era ahead for cricket's finest Islamic team.

WIth the Champions Trophy scheduled at home in September this series is a wonderful opportunity for the Pakistani team to practice strategy and tactic for that important tournament. I'm sure this fact hasn't escaped the erudite Lawson and the Pakistani public and cricketers owe Bangladesh a rousing reception and a neighbour's gratitude for their good grace, natural humility and sportsmanship.

Pakistan won the first match in the five match series by 150 runs showing their class and determination to succeed in trying circumstances. It's never easy being ignored and I have an inkling that the Pakistani team is motivated to such an extent that by sheer will they will make the rest of the world take note.
