Pra quem utiliza iPhone 2G e o Cydia, o Fring já é conhecido de longa data. No entanto, há pouco tempo ele foi oficializado e está disponível gratuitamente na App Store. Trata-se de um programa de mensagens instantâneas. Com ele você pode se conectar no MSN Messenger, ICQ, Google Talk, Twitter, Yahoo, AIM, SIP e Skype.

O grande diferencial do Fring para os outros programas de messenger é o fato de suportar redes VOIP (SIP e Skype). O protocolo SIP é o mais utilizado por redes VOIP no mundo, e por ele é possível se conectar em redes de telefonia VOIP mais conhecidas dos brasileiros, como o Vono por exemplo. Praticamente todos os serviços de VOIP disponíveis no mercado usam o protocolo SIP. Já entre os que não utilizam o SIP, o mais famoso é justamente o Skype, que também funciona muito bem no Fring.

O Fring não possui ainda suporte a envio de imagens, mensagens de áudio nem emoticons (coisa que o Palringo já suporta muito bem), mas é o único atualmente na App Store com suporte a redes VOIP mais comuns (Skype e SIP). A interface dele é muito bem organizada e funciona muito bem. Também não é possível cadastrar mais de 1 conta do mesmo protocolo (por ex: 2 contas MSN ao mesmo tempo, ou 2 contas Skype).

Mas não pense que você terá rede VOIP em qualquer lugar, visto que a rede 3G não permite o uso de VOIP (o SDK do iPhone permite apenas usar VOIP via rede Wi-Fi). Mas ao se conectar em uma rede Wi-Fi, você pode usar o Fring para transformar seu iPhone em um excelente telefone VOIP sem fio.

O software funciona também com iPod Touch segunda geração (sinto muito se você possui o iPod Touch de primeira), mas para isso é preciso comprar um fone de ouvido com microfone na Apple (o mesmo que vem nos iPhones), visto que o Touch não possui microfone embutido. As ligações via Skype geralmente ficam com um pequeno atraso, não é exatamente a melhor opção para telefonia, mas para uso casual ele serve bem, principalmente para usar na rua trocando mensagens de texto.

It's not a surprise that HTC comes out with another sleek, touch, gorgeous phone that everyone wants. It's also not a surprise that the US doesn't get them. The Touch HD was officially said to never be shipped to the States. The only way you can get it is if you get it imported. Why? The way I look at it is why not make more money off these from America? 

But as often is the case with health, a complex problem may lead to a simple solution. Coincidentally, in the middle of all our worry, a new study was published that shows the positive effects of touch.

*  A new study from Utah researchers published in Psychosomatic Medicine shows that warm touch decreases stress hormones and lowers blood pressure. The study looked at married couples ages 20 to 39 in their own environment and found that massage, touch, hugging, kissing, had these effects and also increased the calming hormone oxytocin. A key positive feature of this study was the non-laboratory setting. Criticism of previous studies on stress and touch have included concerns about the artificial environment of the laboratory.

*  According to the American Hospital Association 37 percent of hospitals in the U.S. use complementary and alternative treatments including touch therapy. This policy is growing, and may help improve disease outcomes.

*  Previous studies from Miami (Touch Research Institute) show that massage and relaxation therapies enhance mood and immune function for women with breast cancer. The institute has also published data revealing faster growth in premature babies, a better tolerance of pain, lower glucose level in diabetic children who were frequently touched.

*  Another interesting study from Virginia showed a decrease in fear, danger, and threat responses in the centers of the brain when women touched the hands of their husbands while experiencing pain.

* Petting dogs has been shown to be calming, to lower stress, and to have a positive impact on immune function and the fight against disease.

I am advocating touch as a treatment for stress, but there is a downside. Of course touch increases the risk of spreading many bacteria and viruses. And with cold and flu season right around the corner, I am compelled to add that while you are hugging and stroking to compensate for your worry, make sure to wash your hands afterward.

These results are not surprising, of course, to practitioners of reiki, medical qigong, therapeutic touch, massage, and reflexoloy, or their clients. But the study's results validate that these energy medicine and body work practices are rooted in the fundamental and universal therapeutic value of ordinary human touch, supporting the view that we all possess the ability to help heal through our touch.

Even hospitals are offering their patients touch therapy. According to the results of a new survey released last month by Health Forum, a subsidiary of the American Hospital Association (AHA), hospitals across the nation are responding to patient demand and integrating complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) services with the conventional services they normally provide. The survey shows that more than 37 percent of responding hospitals indicated they offer one or more CAM therapies, up from 26.5 percent in 2005. Survey results also show that massage therapy is in the top two services provided in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

Above is a picture of the new ipod nanos. The new range has been labeled "Nano-Chromatic" this is due to the fact that the new range come in a variety of fresh bright colours which look great close up. At first when this range was released, i personally thought that they were the ugly-est ipod i have ever seen, but after a while they have grown on me, and i think they look great. They are also the thinnest ipods ever but they are also packed with a whole lot of features. They now have cover-flow and shake-to-shuffle and other cool features. Overall they are great and i want the green one :) Now available in 8 & 16GB

Above is the new ipod touch which is less impressive then the ipod nanos but still has some cool features. The new ipod touches have been labeled "The Funnest Ipod Ever" as there are now hundreds of games to choose from thanks to the app store and the 2.0 software update. The new touches have volume controls on the side and are more curved and thinner like the iphone 3G. They also have built in speakers on the bottom somewhere which is always a plus. Overall it alright but there's nothings dramatically changed except the price, as they are now much cheaper then the previous range.

So I instead got myself an HTC Touch Enhanced, also known as the Elfin or the P3452. This phone was simply beautiful and I wanted one when I first saw it a little over a year ago. It was so small, sleek, and pocketable, and the design was breathtaking; I daresay it looks way better than the beloved iPhone. I also had an iPod Touch, so it was pretty cool having an iPod Touch in one pocket and an HTC Touch in the other.

I would have gotten one sooner but, as with all PPCs, the original Touch had a trade-off: poor performance due to a 200Mhz OMAP processor. That and the medieval 64MB RAM made me feel the device was underpowered and no better than the old Prophet I had, and a huge step back from the mighty Atom, the incredibly versatile Universal and the aforementioned i780. So I went with the best compromise and hunted down the enhanced model which had double the memory, which should help despite the weak processor.

So now, I am playing with the Elfin and I can't believe how abyssmal the battery life is! I don't even last half a day with normal phone/PDA work and light WiFi usage (about 30 minutes). I charged this and unplugged at around 4pm, and at 11:40pm I am already at 32% battery life. I mean what?!

I can't believe some reviewers said they were getting 4 days out of this. It goes to show, you can't trust everything you read! But you know how it is, If you saw it on The Internet It Must be True!!!

The Touch had the worst battery life of all the PPCs I have owned, and I've owned a lot. It's slightly worse than the XDA Atom, which used to be the king of bad battery life for me. But with work and tweaks even the Atom could do 2 days, I am still having trouble getting this one to last more than half a day with my normal usage.

That said, I did some testing and was able to get the HTC Touch to have decent battery life overnight, with about 10% power drain over a 12 hour period of not using it.

Basically I turned of HTC Home and just used default Windows Today plugins, with Bluetooth always on, and I was able to get the aforementioned decent battery life. This should be good to last me about 2 days before I start charging again when it hits around 40%. All in all doable, but still sub-par and far from great.

I found that the real problem was this device's WiFi radio. turning on WiFi drains the battery very quickly, far faster than most other models. The drain is similar to that of the XDA Atom Exec, which was by far the worst WiFi battery drainer I ever owned. With the Touch, I was at 86% battery, then I turned on WiFi and surfed with Opera 9.5 for about 5 minutes, when I checked the battery again I was down to 74%. Horrid. That as 12 hours of standby burned away in 5 minutes!

This explains why my phone ran out of battery yesterday when I used WiFi to surf for 30 minutes. In comparison using WiFi on the Prophet would only go down 4% for like 20 minutes of use, a little faster on the Universal and iPaq 6300, and about even on the i780 which I must say is still the king of battery life for me among all the Pocket PCs I've had.

The Touch is truly best as a straight phone -- small, pocketable and good Bluetooth performance, runs Voice Command very well, and with some standard PDA and PIM capabilities, but it is not a workhorse by any stretch especially for WiFi.

That's fine, I'll be using this as my phone primarily, I have other devices for WiFi and HSDPA like the iPod Touch. I sold my i780 but I am looking to get another non-Samsung phone for my HSDPA needs, like maybe the iPhone 3G or the Diamond. All in all I am very happy with my latest acquisition, and I must say it gets lots of oogling and envious looks from people around me. Elf is here to stay!

But! Apple review everything that goes in to the app store and sadly they won't be letting the application go through.
