Windows just had to screw up. I got the Blue Screen of Death. Three times. Oh, Why, Windows, Why? Then Rebooting, several times I got told "Boot Disk Error: Please Insert System Disk & Press Enter." I finally got fed up and put in a Ubuntu live disk to try and fix it up. I'm using Ubuntu now for the second time, and this time I have more time to explore the OS. I'm annoyed at windows for screwing up. I need to fix it up, or else I'll get the blame as I use the computer the most. Ubuntu is awesome, it comes with GIMP. And Firefox. (Ubuntu:Feisty Fawn) If I ever get my own computer (or my cousin ever gives my ancient laptop back) I will definitely install Ubuntu on it. It would just be so awesome to be free from windows. Anyway, before I got the BSoDs, I was getting these messages from PC-Cillin telling me I have tried to open a dangerous website: Spyware. I didn't have a web browser open (Dun dun DUN!). I'm wishing I wrote down some of the IP addresses before The computer screwed up. Sometimes internet explorer would open (I always use Firefox, so instantly I hate whoever made this spyware) and bring up some website with online dating and other adware kind of stuff. Sometimes Firefox would open or open another tab of it's own accord and Firefox would stop it saying the website was on the Bad List or something. So I had spyware on windows and then I got the BSoD. Three Times. Changing subject back to Ubuntu, My absolute favourite screensaver would have to be Flying Toasters. It has 3D planes that resemble toasters flying forward in perspective with Toast. It is so hilarious I am making it the screensaver, although this is just a live disk. I actually want to be able to dual boot this with Windows, or install it with Virtualbox which I have installed in Windows. Windows. Oh, What will I do, In the end I'm just going to have to reboot, and try and find my way back to XP. I have actually found myself looking up dual booting Windows and Ubuntu. I think that means I like Ubuntu. It would be convenient if I could dual boot Ubuntu but instead of asking what operating system I wanted to use I could press F12 on the startup screen to choose which partition I wanted to boot from (I think that makes sense). So it would go into Windows by default, but I could just reboot and press F12 and choose Ubuntu and I could still use it. Then it wouldn't bother anyone else using the computer. That would be convenient, but I don't know how to do that. I guess I will just wait until I can buy an Asus EeePC for Ubuntu or something. Hmm, $595.I could probably afford that after I make a few flash games and monetize them. I need help, but since this is the least visited blog in the world, and I have no/not many means of promoting it, except Nachoman, but Nachoman is barely a means of promotion since I'm still celebrating every visit Sitemeter tells me I'm getting. I could promote it through Sheezyart and Deviantart, but nobody cares on them, and everybody who did care left. I'm getting off track. Our new kitten is eying the goldfish, so i better go. Also, I just finished reading the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (The first book). I could never get the hang of Thursdays, hence the name of this blog. Hope I get it fixed, I'm going to reboot now.

A lawyer, a professor, a journalist, and a family man, Atty. Pachico A. Seares is certainly juggling a lot, but that didn’t stop him from becoming the latest University of the Philippines Gawad Plaridel Awardee for Journalism.

The UP Gawad Plaridel, named after Marcelo H. del Pilar, is given yearly by the College of Mass Communication to exemplary media practitioners from the fields of journalism, film, radio, and television in turn since 2004. Seares was given the award to recognize his contributions to community journalism. Previous awardees include Eugenia Duran-Apostol (journalism, 2004), Vilma Santos-Recto (film, 2005), Fidela “Tiya Dely” Magpayo (radio, 2006), and Cecilia “Che-che” Lazaro (television, 2007).

Seares’ contributions to community journalism are widely recognized by his colleagues in the Cebu daily, Sun Star Cebu, as well as by his contemporaries in the Visayas. He is a well-respected journalism professor at the UP Visayas and is even considered as the “father of journalism” in Cebu. He is fondly regarded as a mentor “who will help you grow as a journalist and a person,” by fellow Cebu journalist Nesa Tabada.

Seares describes the state of community journalism as perpetually part of a “vicious cycle”, in which community papers suffer from a lack of resources to produce a quality newspaper, and how the lack of readership as well as advertisers to support the paper’s existence affects it in turn.

According to him, the only way to escape this “vicious cycle” is to improve standards and strengthen weak journalistic values.

“There is no finish line for newspapers, unless it quits the race,” said Seares, adding that with the new technologies available today and the presence of new media, convergence and synergy must be employed by community journalists to better serve their audience.

Serving the community is furthered by Seares through organizations which aim to build better relationships with the community, such as the Cebu Citizens-Press Council, in which he is vice president. “Community journalism is kinship with the community,” said Seares.

The biggest journeys start with the smallest steps, and the steps Atty. Seares made are great leaps for the improvement of community journalism. “Whatever lies ahead for the community press, good journalism will help us endure,” he ended.

Es elaborada con ayuda de los stakeholders y del personal de la empresa de desarrollo, considerando la visión del sistema para poder prever, ya desde el principio del proyecto, cuales son esos riesgos posibles.

La identificación por si sola no es suficiente para tener control de los riesgos, sin embargo no se puede mitigar aquello que no se tiene identificado, por lo que toda la gestión de riesgos debe comenzar por construir la lista de riesgos principales. Tarea que debe ser revisada de tanto en tanto, probablemente luego de cada iteración o cierre de fase. Con todo, es meta del ciclo de vida para la fase de elaboración, que para entonces ya hayamos tomado medidas contra los principales riesgos con miras a que estos no molesten durante la fase de construcción.

El siguiente diagrama SPEM ilustra la tarea:

Para cuando la lista de riesgos se va a crear por primera vez, se puede considerar seguir los siguiente pasos:

1. Convocar a los trabajadores y stakeholders relevantes.
2. Iniciar la reunión con una inducción de los tipos de riesgos comunes.
3. Dar a los asistentes unos minutos para que realicen individualmente una primera lista de riesgos.
4. Pedir a los asistentes que ordenen sus riesgos identificados por orden de importancia.
5. Tomar los tres o cinco primeros riesgos de cada lista.
6. Identificar los riesgos más nombrados, estos son los que más preocupación causan.
7. Enriquecer la lista común con sugerencias y ampliaciones.
8. Clasificar y ordenar los riesgos de la lista común según los criterios pertinentes.
9. Presentar la lista de riesgos en la forma de un documento.

Por otra parte, si la lista ya está realizada, se puede entonces la tarea se vuelve un trabajo de revisión y actualización, algo definitivamente más simple, que bien puede no necesitar de una reunión expresa para el punto.

Por ultimo comento que es típico que el rol de analista de riesgos sea asumido por el Jefe de Proyecto. No hay buena razón para tener a alguien dedicado exclusivamente a esto y de todos modos, el Jefe de Proyecto es de seguro, uno de los invitados a la reunión de identificación de riesgos.

People haven’t forgotten their winless performance last year, and have used this to dismiss this squad as this generation’s version of last generation’s NU. However, the UAAP has a way of turning the tables on unsuspecting individuals.

I woke up at around 3:30 am. I had a light breakfast and got a little extra early at the race venue. I registered onsite and unfortunately they ran out of Singlets already. Boo.

The race started quite late than scheduled and man, the public portable restrooms were so dirty!

At the start of the run, I paced with Taki and we're running a 5 minute per kilometer pace (and even faster). I knew it was kinda above my comfortable pace for the distance since it translates to a 12Kph running speed. My comfortable pacing is on around 10Kph to 11Kph. At around Kilometer 4 I was really gasping for air and breathing heavily. I knew I couldn't continue with the pace we started on.  So I said to Taki to go ahead as I was really boring him down with my pace.  Soon, Taki disappeared from my view.

Anyway, I was trying to recover and it took me a little while down the stretch to get my feet back to a faster pace. However, my legs started to feel hard, I think it has something to do with what you call "unprepared muscles" for that type of running. I didn't train for the whole week and now I am running an 18Km with a faster pace than what I usually do.  I said to myself, I don't think I can finish the 18Km race with a good set of legs. I think I was just halfway through (9K) and man, my legs were really hard and it was feeling heavy already.  So there goes, one by one, other runners catching up on me....

As I was approached by my office mate (who happens to run as well), I knew I had to pace with them. It was like a little pride that kicked some left over adrenaline to my legs. I ran quite faster and cadenced a little steadier.  I was surprised and at the same time a little relieved that the finish line was slowly breaking into my horizon.... But wait a minute, it's not a 18Km because I finished it earlier than what I expected... But my legs were dead, almost, so OK let me cross the finish line.

After the race, I met up with anj (who's at the side line taking pictures!), coach rio, aloy, vince, and some new found running mates.  We then headed to chocolate kiss (thanks mike for the correction) inside UP where we had some post run breakfast and running discussion. It was nice to meet passionrunner (eric, I think), trisha (newscaster of Studio 23) Astig ka pare!, and other guys who I forgot to get their names.

Right now, I want to just lay down and rest...

A esto se le llama también Realización de Caso de Uso al nivel de Modelo de Análisis, un nombre largo que en verdad no sé a que se debe. El siguiente diagrama de UML muestra la relación de realización entre un caso de uso y su escenario de análisis.

Si contamos con un modelo de dominio bien hecho, el análisis de casos de uso puede ser realizado por medio de la identificación de cuales de las clases de aquel modelo que participan en el caso de uso, y presentar estas en un diagrama de interacción: ya sea de colaboración o más normalmente, de secuencia.

El siguiente diagrama SPEM muestra la estructura de esta tarea:

Por otra parte, RUP nos sugiere una aproximación alternativa: utilizar las llamadas clases de análisis; que son clasificadores de UML estereotipados en tres tipos básicos: control, entidad e interfaz. Esta técnica no presupone la existencia de un modelo de dominio y aunque en su momento daré un ejemplo, no es la aproximación que considero mejor integrada con el resto del método.

El siguiente diagrama ilustra la estructura de la Tarea Encontrar Clases de Análisis, que es la variedad del Análisis de Caso de Uso que utiliza clases de análisis de RUP en lugar de un modelo de dominio.

Dejando de lado la diferencia en el producto, quiero que se note que en el primer caso la entrada es un Caso de Uso y un Actor, por oposición al Modelo de Casos de Uso completo, que si es la entrada de la segunda aproximación.

Justamente lo anterior es lo que rescata la técnica de las clases de análisis a mis ojos; uno puede tomar no uno, sino varios casos de uso relacionados por algún concepto, y analizarlos en su conjunto; lo que nos lleva a conclusiones diferentes y útiles.

• Describa la arquitectura de arriba a abajo: presente la visión general primero, y luego vaya tratando cada uno de los puntos más en detalle, ya sea de diseño o implementación.
• Agregue un glosario: algo que podemos olvidar, pero muchos términos serán desconocidos o confusos, o peor, serán mal entendidos por alguien que tenga un contexto distinto al nuestro.
• Cada vez que introduzca un término que se conoce por una sigla, no presuma que todo el mundo sabe qué significa: coloque la sigla, y las palabras completas que describe.
• Que no exceda las 50 páginas: si es más extenso, no será leído en detalle. Recuerde que muchas personas que lo lean serán personas con cargos de responsabilidad, que pueden no tener todo el tiempo del mundo para leer su obra maestra.
• Todos los documentos de arquitectura que entregue, deben usar la misma plantilla: distintos tipos de letras y formatos entre documentos, confunden a los lectores. La estructura debe ser la misma para todos: si usa una tabla de contenido, un resumen, una conclusión en un documento, deberá usarse en todos.
• Si usa diagramas, úselos consistentemente. Si para explicar un concepto usa UML, cuando tenga que exponer un concepto similar siga con ese tipo de diagrama. Y use los mismos elementos: si en un diagrama UML usó algunos estereotipos, siga usándolos cuando sean necesarios, con las mismas notaciones e íconos.
• Agregue referencias a otros documentos que pueden ser importantes para entender algún concepto o explicitar una fuente consultada.
• Explique siempre cómo la arquitectura descripta cumple con los requerimientos que se quieren alcanzar. Debe haber una trazabilidad desde los requerimientos a la arquitectura definida.
• Coloque al comienzo un resumen: sea gentil con el lector, prepárelo para lo que va a encontrar. Por lo mismo, si un documento lleva varias páginas y abarca varios temas, incluya un índice. Si es necesario, describa los prerrequisitos que debe cumplir de antemano un lector que quiera entender el documento.
• Si tiene que entregar varios documentos, estructure el conjunto como un árbol. El documento raíz describirá la arquitectura desde un punto de vista alto, estratégico. Desde ahí, los documentos nodos hijo irán explicando los subsistemas relevantes, y los elementos que atraviesan los demás, como seguridad y escalabilidad.
• Describa la especificación de la arquitectura, y cómo esa especificación puede ponerse a prueba, como cuando programamos "unit tests".
• Compruebe que el documento acompañe, describa la implementación actual del sistema. Sino, será una pérdida de tiempo para quien lo lee, y hasta puede provocar errores, al tomar decisiones sobre una especificación que no corresponda con el producto actual.
• Describa las decisiones de diseño en detalle, que no quede solamente la descripción de la decisión tomada, debe quedar claro que hubo una decisión en ese punto, por ejemplo, mencionando alguna alternativa.
• Relacionado con lo anterior, no sólo describa el "cómo" sino también el "por qué". Es importante que otra persona entienda las razones que llevaron a tomar un camino en el diseño.
• Si se refiere a algún software entregado con el documento, o a utilizar, incluya la versión del mismo: no presuma que será evidente cuál es la versión a la que se refiere.
• Agregue diagramas y dibujos para explicar las decisiones de diseño tomadas. Los diagramas llevan tiempo de armado, pero el resultado vale la pena.
• Explique los diagramas: una imagen vale más que mil palabras, pero también hay que entenderla.
• Pida que otras personas revisen el documento. Uno siempre escribe desde su propio contexto, y tal vez lo que a nosotros nos parece claro, para otro no lo sea. Trate que sea una persona que no esté en el mismo proyecto, para probar si el documento es entendible para alguien que no está al tanto de los conceptos tratados.
• Use un sistema de control de versiones: no pierda la historia del documento.
• Escriba los nombres del autor o autores, y forma de contactarlos, en caso de ser necesario. Incluya fecha y hora de versión.
• No tiene que escribir todo el documento desde el principio al fin: vaya utilizando otros documentos menores que haya producido durante el proceso de discusión y diseño de arquitectura, pero asegúrese su consistencia. Recuerde: ¿cómo se come uno un elefante? Bocado a bocado.
• No necesita explicar el sentido de cada patrón usado: remita su descripción a la literatura especializada.
• Como en todo documento, sea consistente en el uso de los tiempos verbales, el uso o no de la forma pasiva, la forma de usar pronombres, si "dialoga" o no con el lector, el uso de la primera o tercera persona.

Pienso que muchas de estas características valen también para los restantes documentos del proceso. Después  de todo, la claridad, la consistencia, el formato legible, el buen uso del lenguaje, el buen uso del UML, entre otras cosas son puntos que se toman en cuenta durante una Revisión de Forma y definitivamente tiene impacto en la calidad del documento.

Para ser justo con mis propios documentos, aprovecho para apuntar que ya varios de estos consejos se habían considerado en la progresión de documento en blanco y documento del proceso (véa también la segunda parte), por lo que hasta donde puedo ver, mi propia plantilla de arquitectura del sistema cumple con estas ideas.

Yeah right, buying DVDs in Pirates of the Carriedo is a career for us film majors. bleh!

La diferencia no es solo una cuestión de énfasis. Desarrollar Vocabulario Común se refiere tanto a aprender los términos del cliente como de enseñar la terminología técnica mínima necesaria para comprender y utilizar los resultados de nuestro trabajo. Es decir, Desarrollar Vocabulario Común es un camino de doble vía.

Por otra parte, Capturar Vocabulario del Cliente es una actividad de aprendizaje para la organización de desarrollo y en particular para su Analista de Requisitos; quien debe hacer un esfuerzo por detectar, documentar y aplicar correctamente todos los conceptos especiales en uso en la actividad del cliente que lleguen a entrar en contacto con el desarrollo.

Sin embargo, ambas tareas son definitivas similares, por lo que en la ilustración anterior, además de la asignación de roles y las salidas esperadas, vemos que existe una relación de herencia que nos dice: todo lo que sabes de Desarrollar Vocabulario Común aplica lo también en Capturar Vocabulario del Cliente. La diferencia será que ahora vamos a dedicar tiempo en documentar este vocabulario, misión para la cual vamos a tomar la Plantilla de Glosario como punto de partida.

earlier this year, I was involved in two incidents that exposed me to the obsessive tendencies present in human beings. I was stunned and a bit paralyzed when i came face to face with this powerful emotion. in one incident , i was able to use reason and logic and the other i was not.
i was reminded of Rahu( i know i have written abut him before but then I never explained what he stood for). what does he stand for? Obsession, compulsion, dysfunctional tendencies, blind tendencies, everything that is considered taboo in life, that what is perceived unconventional by society. Rahu plunges that area of our life, mind and soul into chaos and leads us down to those paths...

rahu is desire- dark albeit- and since desire is powerful; so is Rahu.

Kama on the other hand, is known as the god of love. he is the beautiful embodiment of desire. Accompanied by his wife, Rati who stands for passion and lust, and his friend Vasanta, the spring, he traverses the three worlds on his parrot ( another symbol of spring), shooting shafts of love into unaware, hapless human beings.

so, then i thought - what are the examples that I know of when Rahu and Kama have morphed to yield disastrous results?

Ameeta Modi, syed modi and Dr. Sanjay Singh. Syed Modi was a  badminton player who was shot dead in 1988 by assailants after he came out of a stadium following a practice session. The CBI took over the case and built a case of a love triangle: Ameeta Modi , Sanjay Singh the Jan Morcha leader and the former UP transport minister. Evidence surfaced between a "close relationship" between Dr Singh and Ameeta Modi and in no time both were charged for conspiring to murder Syed Modi. Both were released bail and barely few months later, they got married.

Passion can't wait , can it ?  :)

oh yeah....as is the case with politicians, they never went to jail and were acquitted.

As i did a google search, I learned that Ameeta and Sanjay are now challenging the Gandhis in their bastion- Amethi. Yay, our future leaders...

Kama the god of love making his entrance, and then Rahu, the significator of dark desire,obsession and chaos takes over....and the story has a tragic ending.

of course, what happened to me  was totally unrelated an different to this incident but I just remembered this famous case.

obsession, impulsive behavior can be exhibited by anyone- a boss, a friend, the neighbor-similarly as Love is manifested in different forms. the line between these 2 emotions is so thin...its fascinating to watch this psychological power dance.

Eventually, most of us were interested on couple action in the mall. I witnessed two LQs, both were animated and emotional. Like a drama series, I tell you. We also tried to concentrate on intimacy and physical contact with respect to how members of a couple cling to each other.

Looking at people closely, sometimes happy couples included, pulls a nerve in me. I just miss the times.

De acuerdo con CMMi, esta capacidad de medición involucra lo siguiente:

• Especificar los objetivos de medición y análisis tales que sean necesarios para dar soporte a las metas y necesidades de la organización.
• Especificar las magnitudes, las técnicas de análisis y los medios para la recolección, y manipulación de las mediciones.
• Implementar los procedimientos necesarios para la recolección, registro y reporte de la data relacionada con las mediciones.
• Proveer resultados objetivos de las mediciones, tales que puedan servir de base para la toma de decisiones.

En otras palabras: proveer la infraestructura necesaria para la recolección de información estadistica cualitativa y de ser posible cuantitativa sobre los aspectos del proceso que se descubran relevantes para la toma de decisiones, así como la detección y corrección de desviaciones.

Dado su propósito amplio, la práctica de Medición y Análisis debe integrarse en forma distribuida a lo largo del proceso de desarrollo. En el caso ideal, cada actividad y tarea realizada en la organización ha de generar algún tipo de información útil que sirva para determinar su rendimiento, situación objetiva y la calidad de los resultados.

Si bien es cierto que un programa de metrica a gran escala es una propuesta ambisiosa, no es necesario tener un gran esfuerzo de recolección de metricas en el desarrollo para establecer la práctica de la que aquí hablamos. Basta con determinar en puntos clave del proceso definido que se sigue, estadisticas que sean significativas y que de ser posible, sean resultados naturales de las tareas ejecutadas.

Es decir, que contrario a lo que podría parecer, un programa bien establecido de medición no es una operación burocratica a gran escala, sino por el contrario es la reutilización inteligente de la información sobre el proceso que ya de forma natural, se este generando en la organización.

Varios ejemplos de medidas utiles me vienen a la mente:

• Horas de esfuerzo por tarea o actividad.
• Número de componentes diseñados o implantados.
• Número de páginas de documentación solicitadas y redactadas.
• Cantidad de veces que una actividad se repite.

Estas son estadisticas que ya en forma natural deberan existir en la organización, solo es cuestión de definir cuales son útiles para la gestión del proceso y establecer entonces formas de recolectar y utilizar esta data.

Finalmente, dado que con esta práctica estamos detectando desviaciones y proveyendo información útil para la gerencia, es obvio que estamos en presencia de una práctica relacionada con la Planificación de Proyectos así como con el Seguimiento y Control de Proyectos.

Esta revisión de forma toca entre otros puntos, los siguientes:

• Buen uso del idioma español: redacción, ortografía, puntuación; tal como en la escuela.
• Buen uso del vocabulario técnico común.
• Buen uso del lenguaje UML.
• Respeto de la estructura de las plantillas utilizadas.
• Presentación de los documentos.
• Uso de logotipos e imagen corporativa.
• Cualquier otro aspecto general de los artefactos.

Según lo que se diga en el Plan de Control de Calidad del proyecto, esta tarea será realizada con mayor o menor frecuencia, pero ciertamente es necesario que sea realizada de tanto en tanto incluso en proyectos muy pequeños, ya que un documento con faltas de ortografía o que confunda el significado de palabras comunes ciertamente va a ser rechazado por cualquier cliente.

Una nota para los proyectos muy pequeños: recordemos que un rol puede ser asumido por cualquier persona en la organización, no necesariamente es una persona dedicada solo a cumplir con ese rol; por lo cual es posible instruir a una secretaria o personal no técnico que tenga algo de tiempo que pueda dedicarse a la revisión de forma de los documentos. Claro que para verificar el buen uso del UML ha de contar con algo de instrucción técnica, pero la ortografía y la claridad de la redacción pueden ser verificados con facilidad por personal de una formación distinta de la ingeniería del software.

Convencionalmente la construcción del Modelo de Dominio es responsabilidad del Analista de Sistema, quien ejecuta esta tarea con ayuda de la Visión del Sistema y del Glosario de Requisitos.

El Modelo de Dominio, cuando es correctamente construido, es una poderosa forma de análisis, llegando a ser tan expresivo y lleno de significado que incluso en algunos métodos de desarrollo llega a sustituir al propio Modelo de Requisitos.

Ejemplo de lo anterior es el novedoso Desarrollo Guiado por Modelos, donde se parte de un Modelo de Dominio para la construcción del sistema. Claro que en la jerga propia del método este modelo recibe un nombre distinto; un detalle que podemos pasar por alto por hoy.

Otro punto digno de mención es la ausencia del Modelo de Casos de Uso entre las entradas de la tarea de Construcción del Modelo de Domino. Lo cierto es que los requisitos funcionales claramente son algo a analizar, pero como todos los conceptos importantes mencionados en los casos de uso ya están contenidos en el Glosario del Sistema no hay mayor uso de estos aquí.
