Tomorrow, as newly pressed American flags gently wave in the warm summer breeze throughout our nations backyards and parks, our citizens will celebrate their own definition of independence with barbecue's, fire works, and domestic beer consumption.  The anniversary of the "Great American Experiment," a title often assigned to the democratic history of the United States, provides us all with the opportunity to collectively remember that our identity extends beyond the narrow confinements of the self and reminds us that our lives are fundamentally a by-product of the circumstances provided by the nation we call our own.   We may be products of Irish, African, Italian, or Asian genetic history, but these primordial differences do not define our populace because we are uniquely bound to the country that has provided us with our understanding of the world, the mores which we profess to believe, and the context and circumstances which have allowed us to create, shape and realize our own identities through our own pursuits of happiness.

It is in these secular holidays, which we have far too few of, that we define American culture and transform this ad-hoc melting pot comprised of divergent immigrant groups into a nation with its own unique ideals, history and values.  It is the enlightened ideas about the rights of humanity enshrined in the Declaration of Independence that we truly celebrate every year- ideas that reoriented the relationship between government and its citizens- ideas that fundamentally changed the course of history- ideas that we habitually attempt to celebrate through the holidays and traditions associated with the 4^th of July.

America's exceptionalism has always been based on the unwavering defense of basic principles, principles that provide egalitarian protections for every person regardless of who they are or where they came from.  The genius of this country is the fact that America provided a blank slate for men to throw off the chains of hierarchy and lineage perpetuated by ancient societies and instead provided these men a platform to manifest their own destiny through the providence of their own ability.  There have been open and blatant contradictions of this principle from the inception of this union, but the experiment of American democracy is often at its best when we engage in self-correcting these flaws as we participate in the unending attempt to perfect this union through an evolving understanding of how dignity and rights apply to our moment in history.   In many ways this is why we memorialize the birth of our nation, we are renewing the tenets of the founders in anticipation of applying these ideals to our own epoch.  That is why on every July 4^th we are not just celebrating a static moment that took place 232 years ago, but instead we are celebrating the annual renewal of American principles, we are celebrating the fundamental assumption that lays at the cornerstone of American thought -the bold and revolutionary notion that things as they are, are not necessary how they should be and we have the potential to change our institutions because power is derived from the will of men not the will of rulers.

Thus even in moments like now, when so much that had defined American principles for generations has been undermined by an administration that has left us with existential questions regarding the role of America in the globalized future, it is essential to look back and reaffirm all that is right with America and renew our faith in the truly enduring power of some simple ideas based on equality, ideas that have endured and evolved because they are right and just.

So tomorrow, my friends, drink American and wave the flag proudly and never underestimate the communal healing that can be accomplished through these moments of national unity based on principles that define us more than any ancestral lineage or tribal identification, because these are the principles that define us as Americans -these are the principles that must be reclaimed and reinforced.

An inspired piece of detective work by Addlepated, of Austin who uncovered a cache hidden in Fredericksburg, blowing open a 10 year plot to re-assign an identity, smuggling someone into the USA.

This has stirred up more questions about what happened in 1998, who Peter Hayder really is, what the gold was to be used for, and who are the nameless / shadowy people behind this weirdness.

I've been trying to work this out all weekend: Ebersbach came from somewhere in the Eastern Bloc, but met an untimely death in France where I found a cache. Whoever the guy was, one thing is certain - he didn't make the transformation to Peter Hayder. So who was he, and how did the person currently working at Surer become Peter Hayder?

I am now hell-bent on finding out what these people  are up to, and any assistance is truly appreciated. For me it's a case of 'finders keepers', Addlepated keeps what she found, and there could be a lot more surprises out there, all I ask is please share any information you find.

Nej, siger en ny undersøgelse fra USA om Reputation Management, der netop er offenliggjort. Den viser nemlig, at 55 procent af de adspurgte (amerikanske) virksomheder ikke er klar til en eventuel online krise. Og det selvom de godt er klar over at ens omdømme på nettet kan have afgørende betydning.

Undersøgelsen er som nævnt fra USA, og derfor skal tallene nok justeres kraftigt i forhold til europæiske virksomheder - altså i den negative retning. For europæiske virksomheder er stadig bagefter, når det drejer sig om de nye sociale medier. Herunder også overvågning af dem.

Online overvågning vinder frem
I USA er tendensen den, at flere og flere amerikanske virksomheder går fra at overvåge de traditionelle medier (aviser, radio og TV) til at overvåge online sociale medier, som blogs, Twitter og sociale netværk som LinkedIn, Facebook, Ning og MySpace. Ca. 54 procent benytter sig ikke af den traditionelle service mere, mens 63 procent bruger en eller anden form for gratis overvågning af sociale medier.

Interessant er det således at se, at selv i USA er lysten til at betale for social medieovervågningsservice begrænset. Kun 23 procent betaler for servicen.

Et argument herfor kunne være, at man skal have en virksomhed af en vis størrelse før det kan betale sig at bruge ekstern hjælp. De gratis overvågningssystemer, som Google Alerts, Technorati og Summize er nemlig meget nemme at bruge og de er ganske effektive.

Det kan nemt gå galt
Der hvor det kan betale sig at bruge ekstern hjælp er i forbindelse med udviklingen af en social medie strategi. Her kræver det typisk professionel hjælp. I enhver virksomheds kommunikationsstrategi bør der som minimum indgå et afsnit om sociale medier. Noget jeg på det kraftigeste vil anbefale virksomheder at få styr på - ikke mindst hvis de har internationale interesser. Hvis ikke, er der risiko for at det kan gå galt.

I Danmark kan man i dag med stor fordel benytte sig af Overskrift.dk - der kan man (stadig) gratis overvåge den danske blogosfære.

Qui in Italia, sono tutti pazzi, poichè le vendono a dei prezzi allucinanti, manco fossero d'oro. Comode son comode, soprattutto se devi ciabattare tutto il giorno tra il reparto, l'ambulatorio, il pronto soccorso e la rianimazione. Ma ad un prezzo proibitivo.

Ma a Baltimora, ho trovato un negozio, dove con 25 dollari ne compravi 2 paia originali, quindi non ho potuto fare a meno che comprarne un paio per me ed uno per Gloria. Indovinate quali sono le mie???

Con qualche cents in più ho comprato anche degli accessorini carini da mettere su quelle della Glo. Considerando che il cambio è molto favorevole, direi che 7 euro per un paio di ciabatte da lavoro, sono un prezzo più che onesto. Ricordiamoci che sono comunque un pezzo di gomma!

In the Czech Republic, Washington wants to build the radar southwest of Prague, and put 10 interceptor rockets in Poland.

Though it faces some hurdles, the Czech treaty will face opposition in Parliament, and in Poland talks have stalled over Warsaw's demands for US aid to help modernize its army, Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of State, will sign the plan in Prague.

But the shield would offer protection, along with the country's NATO and European Union membership, said the Czech government.

"Missile technology is spreading around the world", Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg said in an interview. "The threat is not totally acute, but one has to prepare in time."

And as Russia grows more assertive about its role on the global scene, bases in the former Soviet bloc would raise US security interest in the region, analysts say.

‘Direct stake’

But to Russia, the missile shield as a threat to itself.

"While Washington's concerns about Iran are real, it's also true that in setting up these missile defense components, the United States will have a direct stake in the security of central and eastern Europe", said Alexander Kliment, an analyst at Eurasia Group, a U.S. political risk consultancy.

After the Soviet invasion in 1968 and the following two decades of occupation, many Czechs get wary concerning any foreign military presence, which led to disputes over the radar.

Last month, an opinion poll showed that 68 percent of Czechs were against the shield, while 24 percent supported it.

The Czech Republic will become a target because of the radar, undermining the country’s security, say anti-radar activists.

In Parliament, the public discontent has been channeled by the leftist opposition, which makes ratification uncertain.

As in the 200-seat lower house the three-party cabinet has just 100 seats, the government must win over several independents, especially because several backbenchers have said they would vote against.

Long-range missile

Ratification should be delayed until a new US administration takes over, says the Green Party, a junior government partner.

And Poland, in order to modernize its army, mainly air defenses, has demanded billions of dollars. On Friday, prime minister Donald Tusk said that US proposals were insufficient, though Poland was ready to negotiate further.

US intelligence suggests that by 2015, Iran could follow North Korea's example and develop a long-range missile capable of striking the United Sates, has said General Henry Obering, head of the Pentagon's Missile Defense Agency.

In 2004, the United States brought an anti-missile umbrella, based in Alaska and California, on line in order to protect against the perceived North Korean threat.

That system would be improved by the Czech and Polish sites. Costing $3.5 billion, it would use technology in which an array of sensors and radar would detect an enemy missile in flight, and guide a ground-based interceptor to destroy it.

If approved, construction on both sites could begin in 2009, and could begin functioning in 2011 to 2013.

Como resultado de esta criminal acción, murieron 3 personas y hubieron 45 heridos. Además de ocasionar pánico en cientos de personas quienes creían que el tractor tenía explosivos a punto de estallar.

4) En fotos difundidas a fines de junio pasado, se aprecia que el Taliban esta vivo y fortalecido, escondiéndose en ciertas zonas de Pakistán. En la foto se aprecia el momento previo a la ejecución de dos personas a quienes se acusó de ser espías de USA.

Lee Carey im American Thinker hat schon im April aufgelistet, welche verschiedenen gemeinnuetzigen Organisationen sich Obama vorstellt und den Daumen in den Wind gehalten, wieviel das den Steuerzahler kosten koennte.

Wenn Kinder und Jugendlichen aus ihren Familien herausgeloest werden sollen, die Peer-Group unter staatlicher Lenkung an Einfluss gewinnen soll, was der Familie abgenommen wurde, dann sind es nur noch wenige Schritte zur "Gleichschaltung".

En el caso de los inmigrantes Hispanos, principalmente en USA, lo están pasando mal, debido a constantes redadas en factorías o almacenes, como se ve en la foto de abajo. Además de haber aumentado el desempleo hispano de manera notoria en sectores, anteriormente claves- como el sector construcción. Sin embargo, la gran mayoría de hispanos, persisten en mantenerse en USA y no regresar a sus países de origen, sobretodo los Mexicanos y Centroamericanos, que son la inmensa mayoría de hispanos en USA.
Incluso, estos últimos, continúan arriesgándose y cruzando la frontera de USA en forma irresponsable.

High food prices put World Food Day 2008 in the spotlight / World Food Day theme to consider challenges to food security

ROME, Italy, July 7, 2008/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- Rarely has World Food Day assumed greater meaning than at the present time, as rapidly rising food prices risk increasing the number of hungry people, notes FAO's Chief of World Food Day events, Sidaty Aidara.

World Food Security: the Challenges of Climate Change and Bioenergy is the theme of this year's World Food Day on 16 October, the day that FAO was founded in Quebec City in 1945, and now observed annually in some 150 countries.

With the number of undernourished people currently estimated at more than 850 million, high food prices are not only putting at greater risk the hungry but those also on the brink of poverty.

The implications of soaring food prices and related issues were considered at the recent High-level Conference on World Food Security, involving the UN Secretary-General, 181 governments and 41 Heads of State or Government, that took place at FAO headquarters from 3 to 5 June.

Last December, FAO also launched an Initiative on Soaring Food Prices, to help farmers in some of the poorest countries through the provision of seeds, fertilizers, and other tools they need to boost agricultural production for the coming planting seasons through 2009.

WFD activities aim at expanding global awareness in an effort to reduce the effects of increasingly severe climate patterns on agriculture and the impact of biofuels on food production.

In connection with World Food Day, from 14 to 17 October 2008, FAO will host the Committee on World Food Security to assess the current global food situation and implications for the future. During the meeting, special events will also be organized to consider specifically, the impact of high food prices on nutrition and the theme of high prices, food security issues and policy responses.

The official World Food Day ceremony at FAO headquarters will take place on 16 October in the presence of member countries, civil society and for the first time involving representatives from the European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL) and the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF).

EPFL and CAF are working with FAO as part of a United Nations effort to promote sport for development and peace through a partnership to launch and promote a campaign called "Professional football against hunger".

Among the many World Food Day and TeleFood events are symposia, Roundtable discussions, concerts and an annual teleConference on world food issues.

Other events include the special WFD ceremony at United Nations headquarters in New York on 17 October; the third annual Run-for-Food event being held in the city of Rome on 19 October and expected to involve over 4000 participants; and a worldwide Candlelight Vigil on 21 October, both events taking place both in Rome and in other countries around the world..
